Ahhh...so we take on a part of their cap. Yes, that makes sense. Thanks.

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Does anyone understand how pick purchasing might work? Would clubs purchase picks out of their cap allowance? If so, why would another club agree to sell given they (presumably) can't just roll the cash they get into their own cap (or can they?). If they rolled it into internal revenue then...

    Injury HFC Injury watch 2024

At least Lewis' injury isn't a full hamstring by the sounds. Maybe a corkie? Haven't seen it reported what his injury actually is but if he's only missing gather round can't be too serious. Might not be a bad thing to have a mini-break to try and start his season over.

    Preview Round 4, 2024 : Collingwood v Hawks, 5:10pm Sunday 7th, Adelaide Oval

Can't believe we wouldn't bring in Finn. Probably has to be Ramsden to replace Lewis. Not sold on Butler and I think we might just leave it to two changes anyway for stability's sake. If they make a third, maybe Seamus in to free up Amon.

Autopsy Round 3, 2024 :Hawks fail against Cats

I think it's fair to say that none of our three vets are likely to be part of our next contending team. They are here really to set examples and coach the younger players as part of their development. So if it gets to be a case of 'do as I say not as I do' then I suspect it might start to impact...

They also got Ollie Henry to go back because he was homesick living in Melbourne ( wonder what the thousands of foreign students studying here thousands of kms from home in an unfamiliar culture and without the biggest sporting club in the country supporting them would make of that.. but that's...

Autopsy Round 3, 2024 :Hawks fail against Cats

The first quarter was horrible again. And if I'm honest I (and I'd bet most people here) suspected the Cats would ease away again in the third after our second quarter comeback, which they duly did. Thereafter the game went its course with the result never being in doubt unfortunately. The Cats...

There is a Calshier highlight reel from todays match on the AFL website which I'd happily load here if I could work out how!

Xerri has been in their best three weeks running. Xerri has been named in their best for the last two or three weeks. Our ruck just got dropped. I reckon Xerri would be in our team.

Yep, and it is also coincidental that the senator approached with this info is Tasmanian. The AFL will only find it harder now to take tax payer money for a new stadium when their status as a good corporate citizen is being trashed.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

I don't think anyone should be upset at the prospect our looking to trade players if they as individuals and the team in general appear to be stagnating at the end of this season. And it's the players in the 25-30 group who we should be closely reviewing because chances are by the end of 2024 we...

They have 16 or 18 players on their list now who are locals. They have the next best thing to a Zone and no Melbourne club has anything close in comparison. They will be in touch with the manager of every kid from Geelong Falcons and Calder Cannons who is drafted by other clubs, saying how much...

List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management 2024

Well, I said 'almost' deliberately because Sis is one player we can't give up. But if we don't progress this year that says to me that most of the other older guys are basically treading water until the young guys can take the lead. Otherwise we'd be winning more games. BUT we might yet have a...

List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management 2024

I'm surprised people are singling out our younger brigade as being our big issue. They aren't. Weddle is a potential superstar. McKenzie played his best game this weekend and stood up when more experienced players were falling by the wayside. He may have turned a corner against the Dees. Ward is...

Take Hawkins out and see how they'd have gone over the last 17 years. They got him under FS when they already had been given two legends under that system. The odds of Taft must be millions to one. He was exactly the ingredient they needed and couldn't provide otherwise (Podsiadly was their best...

Autopsy Round 2, 2024: Hawks go to hell

I have to say I felt a bit for Mitch Lewis today. There were seversp times particularly in the second quarter when the players upfield set him nearly impossible tasks by lobbing the pass directly into a knot of players ahead of him and forcing him to crash a pack they should have kicked over...

Game Day Round 2, 2024: Hawthorn v Melbourne, MCG 4.35pm

I thought that was better. We contested harder and created some opportunities even if most were rushed. Good to see McKenzie getting a lot of it, but it would be better if he was a little calmer when he has ball in hand. At least we seemed to get rung even if we butchered the ball way too often.

People, can we move on! The fact that Robbo can generate this level of reaction is precisely why he remains on TV. Stop giving him oxygen. You'll live longer. Despite all the toys coming out of the cot during the hearing, the system worked, our defence team got it right and Sis got off. He was...

    Preview Round 2, 2024: Hawthorn v Melbourne, MCG 4.35pm 23rd March

Actually the likeliest candidate to stand up physically for Sic, aside from Hardwick, is Blanck but obviously he's not around to do it. He's the biggest and most combative defender we have. With him out we do lack a certain level of mongrel back there, for better or for worse.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

In his comments after the Match, Sam said the connection between the mids and forwards wasn't what they had planned insofar as the positions the forwards were getting the ball were not always ideal. Not sure where the fault lies for that, with the forwards leading the wrong places or the mids...

    Preview Round 2, 2024: Hawthorn v Melbourne, MCG 4.35pm 23rd March

On another tack, does anyone know if there are any changes to the usual public transport arrangements for getting into the city (the 'G) because of the Grand Prix this weekend? I have a recollection that they don't run all the usual tram lines when the race is on, which might impact our crowd...

Autopsy Round 1, 2024: Hawks fail against Bombers

There was a game against St.Kilda last year where he crashed packs and clunked the ball one-grab on several occasions and Dunstall kept saying in commentary how good his hands were. On that day's performance, he was as good a key forward as there is in the league. Then later in the season when...
