What are the thoughts on the Rioli Brothers? Both overlooked in their draft year. But both showing their talent in the NEAFL for Northern Territory. Willie showing his skill and footy smarts like his cousin Cyril and Ben providing good run and carry for NT.

Last I saw them willie was eating bens 3 meals a day. :p Ben would be about 50kg and willie 90kg. Has that changed?

tigs2010 what do you see our most pressing needs as? I would say KPD, small forward, pacey wingman/halfback, big inside accumulator

Durdin looks like he will be gone by our pick, I like the look of Pickett. Are there any small forwards of note we could pick up with our second pick?

I was trying to do a quick analysis of the list to see what we need.

In no particular order:

1) Big, skilled inside midfielder. The fact Matt Thomas is getting games probably says it all. Yeah, he wins a lot of the ball but he butchers it straight back. I actually think we already have one of these in Vlastuin, but not sure what the reasoning is for him playing HBF, (Development or that's where they see him playing?)

2) Tall rebounding defenders. If Vlastuin goes to the midfield then we lose height in our rebounders with Houli, McDonough and Newman all being short arses. Ben Lennon is potentially this player for us. Let's hope so, then we can release Vlas to the middle and we've solved the first 2 problems. McIntosh could develop into another but he's a bit of a project.

3) KPD depth. We only have 5 KPD's on the list. One is a rookie in Darrou who could well be chopped. I think we should probably have 6 on the list. Durdin would be great. I have him at #1 on my list. Watchman his SA buddy could be an option. Often the best KPD's start out as forwards and Watchman is a forward but he has also spent a bit of time playing KPD.

4) Young ruck. Everyone is avoiding these types. Personally I think we should avoid being a sheep and grab one. We'd be buying cheap at this rate. Rookie draft one to replace Orren. We have 2 rucks and also Vickery or Griff if desperate. Reed from SA or Cameron from last years draft could be options.

5) Pace, pace, pace. This probably should be at number 1 if I was going in order. We have Lids and that's it. Lets get some lightning speed into this team. Jarrod Pickett is the one for me this year at our pick. Unless Durdin was there. These smaller types often get undervalued and can go a bit later than they deserve. Nakia Cockatoo is another possibility.

6) Small forwards. We at least have some small forwards now. But are they quality. King looks cooked. Banfield is just a rubbish kick of the footy. Edwards is decent but an average kick, at least he creates chances from nothing. Lloyd we haven't seen yet but he has potential in the Jamie Elliot mould. I actually think Pickett could be that pacy small forward we want. Just with the added advantage you can play him on a wing, in the middle or off half back as well.

Overall I think we should be looking at having maybe 5 picks and 3 in the rookie. I think 2 will retire and then we should cut a few guys that aren't up to it IMO. Someone like a Batchelor might net us a pick in return.

1st Round: Jarrod Pickett
2nd Round: Peter Bampton/Dylan Winton
3rd Round: Jesse Watchman
4th Round: Nakia Cockatoo
5th Round: Daniel Capiron/Isaiah Miller (19yo)

Those are just off top of my head.

Nice analysis tigs2010. Agree with pretty much everything you said.

Am wondering what the future holds for Vlastuin. Ideally he will develop into a centreman. Dusty as well. With Dusty, Vlastuin, Jackson, Cotchin and Conca we shouldn't need anymore inside mids but at the moment the way we are structuring up we do. How good would Richmond be with Jobe Watson in the side.

We desperately need pace and skill on the outside. The work of Brad Hill, Isaac Smith and Cyril Rioli against Freo showed just how important it is on the MCG. Brad and Isaac have the combination of speed and endurance. Obviously we need this as we look flat footed when we don't have momentum. Hawks obviously know how important this is as they picked up Billy Hartung last year. Nathan Gordon looks a little like Smith. Let's hope he can rise to the level.

KPD - We need a guy coming through who can partner Rance in the years to come. Grimes is a third tall. Astbury - probably too slow. If we can nab a gun KPD with our first pick this year I would probably pull the trigger. Immediately we have more of a pace need though.

Half back. I think long term Lennon is a half back. Our forward line with JR, Griffiths, and Tyrone will just be too slow if Lennon plays forward. I'd play him in the Goddard, Gibbs half back role at this stage.

As for junior rucks. I think this is more of a luxury than a need. I wanted Bellchambers a few years ago and would love to see the club take a kid like that in the rookie draft and develop them into a gun but apart from the fact that Hammer and Maric are injured am happy with how we've filled our ruck needs.

tigs2010 what injury does Durdin have? I usually keep up to date but haven't heard anything so I just assumed he was playing?

He'll be back in time for the National Champs, so shouldn't affect his draft position too much.

Yeah true, everyone loves Brayshaw but I don't want us to pick him at this stage.

Yeah would prefer Lachlan Weler or Jarrod Pickett. But i honestly don't see us having a chance at getting either, the same with Brayshaw. Unless some step up at the champs.

Bang. Both will be better than Brayshaw. Pickett probably the most likely of the two. Weller should go top 5 IMO.

I love the way Picket goes about it and adds what we need most, pace.

One I have been watching as a but if a later selection is Reece Mckenzie, big bodied key forward who left footy for basketball last year but has moved backed to the knights, love his presence around the footy and is a really strong mark.

Hearing some good things about him. Need to find some time to see him. If he can get some consistent output I don't think he'll be a late pick.
