Don't get emotional.
NY advice is to stick to facts, not propaganda. Memberdhip is only one indicator of club size or performance and right now Richmond are well placed on this as the only measure you could possibly use to argue Richmond is as big as Essendon. As I stated above, Essendon are an indisputable leader over Richmond in many more indicators that without a doubt price beyond reasonable doubt Essendons standing. Richmond don't cone close to Essendon in key large surveys of club size.

If it was close I would be more inclined to give your post some credit. But, facts are facts. Dreamteam, supercoach, AFL and MCC membership and attendances, sponsorship income, nerchandising and TV ratings.. Again, Essendon dont play home crowds in front of 20-23,000 people. Richmond have on many occasions, last year included. These are the facts you wanted. No propaganda.

You can't look at membership as the only key. Carlton are definitely not half the size if Richmond or Hawthorn. It has a vast national following that us certainly not being exploited by a poor administration in recent years which largely perpetuates nonsense assertions of a clubs demise.

Carlton is the best example of a club that has a following at a similar size to the Tigers. Looking purely at raw membership numbers is totally misleading.

lol rubbish sir

Attendances please. Thats hit by the draw, yes in 2014 you had larger crowds but then in 2013 when we had a draw where we got to play the bigger clubs the below happened...the rest you are sprouting might have been true 4 years ago but not now. You are in debt, we are not, you have a declining membership, we do not and our brand value has increased while yours declined. anyway, not going to get into a s**t fight as this is about memberships

Imo WCE are the 2nd biggest club.
Easily Essendon don't come close to WC.
Collingwood is the only challenge to WC really and once the new stadium is done they will be number 1 no question.
There is also the whole ASADA thing that make any attempts to make Essendon look like a powerhouses just unrealistic, not trolling that's just the harsh reality. The Essendon brand has been damaged and will take years to repair and get close to what it was.

Don't believe all these membership revenue figures. Not possible for clubs with similar membership numbers to be so far apart in membership revenue. One club has probably added pokies earnings or some crap

Collingwood has extended its lucrative uniform sponsorship with Emirates and will earn an estimated $10 million from the airline over the next five years in a deal that highlights the growing gap between the AFL’s haves and have-nots.

The Emirates deal will help Collingwood top $20 million in combined sponsorship and merchandise revenue for the 2014 season, a feat only previously achieved by Essendon and Richmond in the AFL.

Last year, AFL premier Hawthorn banked $19 million in sponsorship and merchandise revenue, Essendon earned $20.1 million and Richmond led the AFL with $22.9 million - more than half the Tigers' total revenue of $44.8 million.

Where collingwood , hawthorn , Essendon & Carlton are ahead of Richmond is in non football operations revenue being gaming machines.

FFS, that really is slack reporting. Richmond's 'sponsorship and marketing' income clearly includes membership income as well.

No it does not...the article clearly states merchandising & sponsorship

Figures they got from the annual report.....and anyone with a modicum of intelligence can deduce that it includes membership income given it's not listed anywhere else.

Read it for yourself - the link is on page 1 of the annual reports thread.

the article is wrong. flat out wrong. And comes from here - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...th-10-million-sponsorship-20140320-hvkum.html

The Richmond 2013 Annual Report lists the following revenue items on page 10.
  • Football - $15,565,970 (likely to be its AFL distribution - $12,879,467 in 2013 - and thus gate receipts of about 2.7million (this can be assumed based on Carlton receiving 3.1 million and Richmond having greater attendances)
  • Sponsorship and Marketing - $22,932,553 (likely to be membership, sponsorship, merchandise)
  • Gaming and Social - $5,549,920
  • Interest received - $74,540
  • Jack Dyer Foundation - $725,100
Given that we know Richmonds 2013 membership revenue from its expenses + net revenue was 8.59 million, and given an average merchandise revenue of about 2 million (Carlton did 1.8 million, Essendon did 3.4 million). Id estimate that Richmonds 2013 sponsorship income was no more than about 9 million.
