No. 8 overall pick Vic Beasley will be the Falcons' "Leo" outside pass rusher at weak-side defensive end.

It was Cliff Avril's position in new Atlanta coach Dan Quinn's defense. Beasley is a suspect run defender and doesn't play with overwhelming physicality, but possesses the best get-off in this year's draft and will literally be able to run by or around slower-footed left tackles. We like Beasley as an eight-sack threat right away and double-digit producer down the line.

Always liked Fowler. I heard an interesting critique of him the other day on draft night. Said Fowler's "bend" was limited from the knee down, concentrating in the ankles. That his leverage drove off the ankles and wasn't balanced thru the hips. while it was impressive, he could be outleveraged and swatted away like a fly if he didn't get his feet planted the right way. Mack's got better bend below the knee and through the hips. that's how he generates the torque he needs to overpower and push blockers past their base fulcrum, topple them over or aside. Fowler can do it too. but more limited than Mack. In a way, he's very much like Mack, but a poor man's Mack.

I personally wasnt impressed with Fowler's 'versus' videos that i saw. Didnt get the hype.

So the Bucs tanked too.....shame on your organization.....

--------

"Licht had his eyes on Winston a year ago, when the draft-day quarterback debate focused on Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater. By the Rose Bowl, even though Oregon blew out Florida State and Winston had a Garo Yepremian moment, Licht and Smith knew Winston was their guy.

And so they embarked on doing their homework regarding Winston’s off-field issues, a process that potentially was skewed by the joint desire of Licht and Smith to select Winston with the first overall pick that was secured over Tennessee in part by the decision to bench key players during the second half of a Week 17 game against the Saints."

They never came out and admitted and don't think they ever will. It's funny how a 20-6 halftime lead just evaporated in the second half when Tampa chose to clear the benches. Funny that.

And the Bucs' young players have now learned that it's OK to lose. Pathetic.

GM Ruston Webster said the coaching staff began tailoring their offense to fit Marcus Mariota's strengths a while ago.

This should be obvious, but coach Ken Whisenhunt has earned a reputation as a vanilla schemer that forces his offense on players. That won't fly with Mariota and he appears to know it. "Our coaches have been working on a plan for quite some time now for Marcus," Webster said. "Really to adapting our offense to his skill set." If Whisenhunt uses Mariota correctly, he'll easily get on the QB2 map thanks to the rushing stats that will inevitably come.

The Vikings rookie minicamp starts on May the 7th. A bunch of local players are usually invited on a tryout basis. Some (most recently WR Adam Thielen) have made it onto the roster.

The Vikings official list of UDFAs is out and roster trimming will now commence to fit them all into the 90 player limit.

BTW, I love my tall receivers and one of the confirmed IDFAs for the Vikings is:

WR Gavin Lutman, Pittsburg State (6'4", 201 pounds)

• Eighth among all D-II receivers in 2014 with 1,196 yards on 70 catches in 13 games as a fifth-year senior.
Participated in the Kansas Pro Day
40 yard time: 4.46 seconds. Would have ranked 17th out of the 39 receivers that ran at the combine.
3-Cone Drill: 6.65 seconds would have ranked 3rd among receivers at the combine.
Shuttle: 4.09 seconds would have been 6th among receivers at the combine.
Vertical: 36 inches would have been 20th among receivers at the combine.
Broad Jump: 10’5″ would have been 6th among receivers at the combine.

In the last three seasons, the 49ers have gone from first to second to third place in the four-team NFC West.

Perhaps, then, it is not a surprise to see San Francisco as the longest shot to win the West in 2015 at one notable Nevada sports book.

As of Tuesday, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook lists the 49ers as 9-to-1 to capture their division. The Cardinals and Rams are given 13-2 chances to win the NFC West behind Seattle, which is an overwhelming favorite at 2-to-7.

The 49ers’ odds seem to reflect the team’s sharp fade at the end of 2014. The club also took a perception hit after the departure of head coach Jim Harbaugh, who was 49-22-1 in four seasons in San Francisco.

While the 49ers are the biggest price to win the NFC West, they are the shortest-priced longest shots in any division, with the Browns (10-to-1), Bears (12-to-1), Jets (12-to-1), Buccaneers (12-to-1), Washington (15-to-1), Jaguars (20-to-1), Titans (25-to-1) and Raiders (25-to-1) all having higher odds.

Here are the SuperBook’s division-winning odds for all 32 teams:

AFC East: Patriots 4-to-9; Dolphins 4-to-1; Bills 5-to-1; Jets 12-to-1.

AFC North: Ravens 8-to-5; Steelers 2-to-1; Bengals 2-to-1; Browns 10-to-1.

AFC South: Colts 1-to-5; Texans 7-to-2; Jaguars 20-to-1; Titans 25-to-1.

AFC West: Broncos 5-to-12; Chiefs 7-to-2; Chargers 9-to-2; Raiders 25-to-1.

NFC East: Cowboys 13-to-10; Eagles 3-to-2; Giants 3-to-1; Washington 15-to-1.

NFC North: Packers 2-to-7; Lions 9-to-2; Vikings 8-to-1; Bears 12-to-1.

NFC South: Panthers 9-to-5; Saints 9-to-5; Falcons 9-to-5; Buccaneers 12-to-1.

NFC West: Seahawks 2-to-7; Cardinals 13-to-2; Rams 13-to-2; 49ers 9-to-1.

Based on his own tape study, NFL Films' Greg Cosell believes Jaguars second-round pick T.J. Yeldon "is a laterally quicker and more explosive inside runner than Melvin Gordon."

Cosell also praised Yeldon's fondness for "attack(ing) downhill with conviction" and an "ability to work effectively between the tackles." The Jaguars fired OC Jedd Fisch because he asked too much of Blake Bortles as a rookie. Under new OC Greg Olson, the Jags intend to be a ball-control team with a solid defense and high-volume run game featuring three-down back Yeldon.

Yep, the same OC who had a rookie QB throw nearly 600 times in the year. Good luck with that.

Yeldon is probably underrated because of T Rich

That would be extraordinarily dumb if it were the case. For every Richardson there is a Lacy or an Ingram (admittedly it took Ingram a while - but he would've made real good money on FA this year if he hadn't have re-signed.

You could be right though. I will forever look at AJ McCarron and wonder how you can have such outrageous success in college that is entirely put down to "system". But then you look at Richardson and wonder how the hell this guy was ever "the best prospect since AD."
