Title says it all, it’s very early I know but this sort of thing always makes for fun discussion, so here’s a place to discuss your best 22 for season 2023. Remember everyone’s teams are opinion based, discussing selections is fine but attacking others for their opinions is not.

Assuming all the rumours about Lobb, Logue and Acres are true

Ryan-Pearce-Chapman
Young-Cox-Clark
Aish-Brayshaw-O'Driscoll
Fyfe-Taberner-Walters
Switkoski-Amiss-Freddy

Darcy-Brodie-Serong

Erasmus-Johnson-Jackson-Schultz

Still a good side on paper. Given a good run with injuries and if the young guys development continues then we should go at least 1 better next year.

Clark-Pearce-Ryan

Aish-Fyfe-O'Driscoll
Switta-Amiss-Walters
Freddy-Tabs-Shultz

Darcy-Brayshaw-Serong

Brodie-Jackson-Walker-Erasmus-Johnson-Treacy-Sturt-Logue

Thats assuming everyone is fit.

Predict Fyfe will have a big off season and come back like a man posessed

Hard to say with the rumours of Acres, Lobb, Logue, Tucker and Henry leaving. Here is an attempt with none of them.

FB: Walker Pearce Wilson
HB: Ryan Cox Young
C: Clark Brayshaw O'Driscoll
HF: Erasmus Amiss Serong
FF: Walters Taberner Switkowski

R: Darcy Fyfe Johnson

I: Aish Jackson Chapman Frederick

Schultz Brodie Treacy

Feel like Brodie is a chance to fall behind Brayshaw, Serong, Erasmus and Fyfe.

Difficult

B: Walker Pearce Ryan
HB: Young Cox Chapman

C: O'Driscoll Brayshaw Aish
HF: Frederick Amiss Switkowski
F: Treacy Taberner Schultz

R: Darcy Serong Brodie
I: Clark Erasmus Walters Fyfe
E: Johnson Worner Wilson Banfield

Back probably pretty much settled.

Starting midfield close to the same. Johnson and Worner to get same games when somebody is not available.
Forward line needs the most work. Amiss should get regular game. Jackson could be in and without him Treacy could be 3rd tall.
Fyfe to rotate forward and mid to where he is needed. Hopefully is is fit has more impact then this year. Jackson in for Treacy when we get him.

Assuming Lobb, Logue, Acres to be gone.

B: Ryan, Pearce, Walker
HB: Young, Cox, Clark
C: O'Driscoll, Fyfe, Chapman
HF: Frederick, Taberner, Schultz
F: Jackson, Amiss, Walters
R: Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong

Int: Brodie, Switkowski, Aish, ?

It is hard to leave out any of the players who played last night. Sure Walker was fumbly, dropped marks and was one of a few players who were caught out holding the ball but with another preseason he could have the Young/Clark type progression.

Hopefully Erasmus, Johnson, Sturt and Treacy especially can be creating that pressure and competition for spots in the best 22.

Finals footy is all about pressure and intensity. Where was the menace against
the Pies?
Forward entries were too slow, or just bomb it long.
Jlo has to inject some passion into the group, Erasmus, Treacy, and Jackson
forward is a start.
Sturt wasted at Peel, Johnson needs to be fast tracked into the midfield.
With the players leaving, retiring it should be a no brainer.
just add water and you can see what needs to be improved.

Will Brodie can build himself a tank or GTFO of our best 22 next year

I haven't seen a replay but it looked like he had a good second half (happy to stand corrected) I don't think we have enough rotations anyway. Need to add players like Erasmus and Johnson who can play mid/forward to help that.

Not bad, if everyone left that has been mentioned (they won’t) still leaves ready to play depth as:
Backline - Wilson (very unlucky this year), Hughes and Hamling
Mids - Johnson, Erasmus, Colyer and Worner
Forwards - Tracey, Sturt and Banfield
Ruck? Meek requires replacement if gone

For me Walker isn’t starting 22 next year I’d prefer Willo that lack of awareness and deer in the headlights isn’t something new to me i noticed it a lot in the home and away games I couldn’t believe a change wasn’t made at halftime lamb to the slaughter.

I’ve got a watch on Sean Darcy for next year. I reckon he’s been using up some credits that were stored in the bank before this year especially in the last few months.
If you looked at this year in isolation, you would say he’s an AFL average ruck and that all.
I hope we keep Meek just incase this worrying trend with Darcy continues into 2023

The Walker situation confuses me - he has some good natural talent but out of every player he's looked a little over-awed through stages of the season, which all came undone over the weekend.

You play a guy like Walker every week to grow him into the role on the proviso that your team is still growing and you're not in a Premiership window - whatever people say we were in a Premiership window this year and he was played ahead of an in-form Wilson and even Hughes would've offered more.

We wouldn't have played Brayshaw and Cerra in their first year if we were contenders.

So for me Wilson is starting 22 next year over Walker.

Talent is almost there except - Amiss too young and Tabs too old.
Somehow need to get 40-50 goal key forward who is 23-27. (Understanding that they don't grow on trees of course)

Walker had an absolute shocker but let's back him in for 2023. The guy is 19 and will get better from here. In my opinion is all about getting guys up to 50 games. We had 8 guys with less than 50 games in the finals. (That's a heck of an inexperienced team). Predicting this current list will look about right in 2024-2027 if they stay together. (They would have all played 50-150 games by then.
