Who bid for 2026? Did it even get to a vote?

Sounds like 2030 in that FIFA decided to give it to all bidders who agreed to co-operate. Saves a voting process.
Blue = Morocco
Gold = USA/Mexico/Canada
Red = Abstained
Green = None of the Bids

Saudi Arabia will probably spend 10billlion+ on the tournament.
Just cannot compete with that sort of money.
Plus AFC have backed them.
Money talks unfortunately

Don't be surprised if they do something horrific on the international stage that would see the tournament taken off them.

Also oil money might be not anywhere near as much in 10 years time.

Impressive how much more clout they have compared to us. I don’t suppose we can compete with such a resource rich nation sarcasm font

It's all short term for them. No sporting culture, reliant on oil income. Terrible place to visit. Don't count the Saudis out if doing something stupid politically and having the event stripped from them.

Even their league with overpaid stars get crowds under 1000. It's not going to last.

We will never host a mens WC. Good luck convincing AFL (and to a lesser extent NRL) to pause their respective leagues for two months.

We won’t, but the AFL is not the main reason. AFL could have a series of gather rounds In city not used for a World Cup

Since Qatar already had a World Cup in November/December, why couldn’t Australia do the same thing?

This is non issue. The tournament will be jointly hosted and would have used a minimal amount of AFL stadiums (Adelaide oval only likely). Their competitions do not pause either.

We won't have air conditioned stadiums either.

Didn't see in the FIFA announcement whether this was going to be a winter tournament or not.

If it's going to be played in the normal June/July timeframe air conditioned stadiums will be an absolute must as will air conditioned outdoor fan areas etc etc.

Saudi Arabia also won't be able to host all 103 games, pretty much no chance of that. Probably likely they'll share games with their ally and neighbor UAE.

Why would we host in November / December? That only came about because Qatar admitted they could not host in June / July as they originally bidded. The ideal climate in Australia for football tournaments is in June / July and that's when it would be hosted.

Because the conversation was about AFL/NRL not allowing it to happen during their seasons.

That's a non issue in reality for a once in a lifetime world cup tournament. If we were given the hosting rights that would be sorted out. The AFL/NRL wouldn't be able to do too much about it.

Not even remotely close to why Australia will never get it.
Time zone, profitability, money, infrastructure.

Saudis have none of the above but money. That’s enough to win the bid
