What was Kav like at VFL level? He seems to be doing alright for Central Districts in the SANFL, not starring but seems to be consistently good.

Sounds like he's simply not cut out to be an AFL player, but he has the goods to be a decent state league player.

We shouldn't be surprised as reality says not that many will make it let alone be stars. I think the thing with Kav is we invested a 1st round draft pick in him therefore our expectations were high.
