B: Mathew Scharenberg ~ Nathan Brown ~ Marley Williams
HB: James Aish ~ Jon Marsh ~ Brayden Maynard

M: Steele Sidebottom ~ Taylor Adams ~ Scott Pendlebury
R: Brodie Grundy ~ Adam Treloar ~ Dane Swan

HF: Travis Varcoe ~ Travis Cloke ~ Jordan De Goey
F: Darcy Moore ~ Ben Reid ~ Jamie Elliott

I/C: Jack Crisp ~ Alex Fasolo ~ Tom Langdon ~ Jeremy Howe

There are so many variables and players waiting to step up I thought I would try to put them in categories

1 Certain Best 22 (16)
Pendles
Swan
Sidey
Cloke
Reid
Williams
Varcoe
Brown
Adams
Langdon
Greenwood
Elliott
Fasolo
Grundy
Treloar
Crisp

2. Youngsters with best 22 form who I expect will be best 22 in 2016 (5)

Moore
De Goey
Aish
Marsh
Frost

3 Previous best 22 who have a struggle to maintain their position but can still stay best 22 (3)

Blair
Goldsack
Toovey

4 Youngsters who haven't shown best 22 form consistently so need to do more to earn a 22 spot (6)

Scharenberg
Broomhead
Maynard
Oxley
Ramsay
Goodyear

5 Non youngsters on the border, will go either way (3)

White
Sinclair
Caff

6 New players not guaranteed best 22 (1)

Howe

Witts is the one left out. I can see the possibility of the Witts/Grundy combination being revisited with the sub gone. Wait and see, it could really work to our advantage.

I think it's easier to group the players like the following:
Certain best 22:
Pendles, Cloke, Sidebottom, Reid, Williams, Swan, Treloar, Langdon, Adams, Crisp, Elliott

Likely best 22:
Brown, Grundy, Varcoe, Greenwood, DeGoey

Fighting to be in 22:
Witts, Maynard, Toovey, Oxley, Fasolo, Frost, Marsh, Moore, White, Aish, Howe, Broomhead, Goldsack, Sinclair, Scharenberg, MaCaffer and Blair.

That marks 11 certain, 5 likely and 17 in the fighting for best 22. The 17 could be great in that they will be a great bottom 6, or none could come on and we will have an ordinary bottom 6. Will be interesting at the selection table most weeks. Ideally we would want Moore, Witts, Aish, Howe, Scharenberg and Broomhead to be the last 6, playing well enough to keep the others out.

Pretty good

Need Moore or White at least to have a ruckman backup. Perhaps take Howe out and replace with Moore/White. Greenwood needs to slot in some where. I hope Marsh can also fit in

I forgot about Darcy Moore.

He's in, Goldsack out.

Best summary I have seen.
Pretty accurate.
The fact is pre-season could boost anyone player up or down in that list.

The real beauty is we have extremely few player who would be borderline 22 in last years side still around the club.
Some will pick individuals that have "irked" them but every player has a legit claim the best 22.

That is tough to pick and there are a few blokes are stiff, Varcoe to provide run take the kick outs and class off half back, Broomhead to be given the small forward role.

This looks pretty spot on. I'd probably slot Ramsay in Tooves' position.
Jeez Maynard is stiff though, Fasolo too. Obviously a good problem to have though!!
If that were the 22, it makes for a decent VFL team [injuries aside]:

Maynard Frost Ramsay Marsh*** Oxley Sinclair

Witts Macaffer Goodyear

Goldsack White Fasolo Blair Cox Gault Wyatt

PICK 27, 66, 77 …

*** (And FWIW, I think Marsh will soon be a fixture in the AFL team).

The exciting thing about your certain 22, numbering 16 is that 8 are under 23.if add your next 5 and any of point 4 that's 14 out of 22 23 or under and only Swan and Cloke over 28

Not quite best 22 but likely to play games: Broomhead, Frost, Maynard, White, Goldsack, Blair, Toovey, Macaffer.

This is exactly what I would have chosen. My only question was whether we now also play Witts. I am not sure that Moore/Grundy is sufficient in the ruck. Therefore depending how it goes, it may be Fasolo out Witts in.

I do have reservations regarding Brown and Frost in the key defensive posts, but I think there is enough flexibilty (Reid or Marsh) in the selected side to cover if the s**t hits the fan.
I'd also like to see some of Marsh's pace on the wing (defensive side), can't bear much more of the over the top rebound goals we leak every game.

Seen quite a few posts suggesting Pendles off a back flank to use his skills now that the midfield has been stocked.

I'd go the other way and push him forward when resting off the ball.
I reckon we just leave our best midfielder in the midfield. He went back and forward last season because he was hurt.

He is 27 not 32 and in the prime of his career as a mid.

People seemed to have jumped right off Broomhead. Providing he stays fit he think he will finish top 10 in our b&f. I know everyone wants to jump on Aish because he's new but Broomy has him covered in pretty much every department that matters.

Langdon | Brown | Williams
Scharenberg | Reid | Marsh
Crisp | Adams | Sidebottom
Swan | Cloke | Broomhead
Elliot | Moore | Varcoe
Grundy | Treloar | Pendlebury
Aish | Howe | De Goey | Greenwood

Maynard | Frost | Fasolo

- I stick by my opinion that Reid should be in the backline.
- Had a hard time picking who misses out of Faz/Howe but picked Howe because I think he's more durable.
- Moore to play second ruck.
- I think we need to find somebody reliable to take the kick ins and I'd try Scharenberg.
- Cloke back to CHF.
- I'd love to see Maynard become a regular.

A lot hinges on where Reid plays. Let's face it. If he's a forward, one/two of white/Moore/Howe miss out. If he's a back then one of Maynard/Marsh/Frost miss out.

I am SOOOOOOOO more than happy for Frost to miss out.

The very epitome of a back/depth option. Should not be starting 22. Not when Brown, Reid and Marsh are fit. No way no how.

I haven't jumped off him so to speak because he has always been borderline best 22 to me. But I think he is one of the players hurt by Treloar, Aish and Howe coming onto the list and Kennedy, Seedsman and Freeman going off the list. That's 3 he was probably ahead of for 3 he id definitely behind. He will get games as a depth player but I see a lot of VFL games for Broomhead unless we have injuries.

Re Aish and Broomy. I think Aish is just a better quality youngster. His 1st season at AFL level far surpassed anything Broomy has produced to dae.

I have a similar view. Think Frost can hold down CHB, will be a more developed player as he approaches 50 games. It's not certain. If he can though it is enormous for the forward line if Reid stays fit.

Agree the Elliott, Fas, Howe conundrum is a sticking point. Can all 3 play, it's not certain. Think the 1st 2 are the better players of the 3 so I would start with Elliott and Fasolo but it's close.

Good solid team there.
Reid makes our back half so much more potent.
Howe is also more versatile with his athleticism.
I am still uneasy with Moore playing in the ruck on a regular basis.
Really want Cloke out at CHF most of the time.
Maynard will get his chances - I love his attitude, but it won't hurt to bring him along a bit more slowly as he still has a lot to learn.
