Vic Best and worst train stations in Melbourne

Flagstaff having an entrance closed on weekends to save a few dollars can get ****ed. Missed a train due to this.

A mate who drives trains told me today that they will be putting a new station in-between Mooroolbark and Lilydale.

The proposal is to fill in the old quarry and build a new housing estate/small community there. A train station has always been on the books for that area.

However - despite all the rhetoric and Artists Impressions, no progress has been made (the ownership of the quarry has been passed around for the last few years), for a couple of reasons.

First - Vic Historical Heritage has decided that the Quarry (which is only a small part of the overall site) is 'Heritage Listed' and so we have to have 'Preservation' etc - it's just a big hole in the ground, for Og's sake.
Second - any developer is (rightly) wary of any toxic chemical clean-ups that may be required (the quarry is an old industrial estate after all) and are discussing who pays for potential liabilities etc.

A couple of years ago, the formal statement of a Go-Ahead was announced - in that time exactly one-fifth of bugger-all has been done.

Works to demolish Surrey Hills and Mont Albert stations start soon to be replaced by 'Union' station.

Those travelling on the Lilydale and Belgrave line must be getting use to bus replacements by now.

It's not ending any time soon for both.

Ringwood East is to get its turn in the spotlight.

Likewise Bedford Rd.

Croydon Station later on.

Why don’t they just do it all at once

don't know that area at all - they are removing two stations and replacing it with one inbetween the two current ones?

any particular impetus for this?

And Boronia is getting rebuilt... And Ferntree Gully will probably be added to the list one day too...

We've still had an easier time of it than the Dandenong line folks.

Something about track curvature along the platforms no longer meeting design standards IIRC.

But moving along to the straight section, there's only room for one station anyway. It's going to suck for the businesses now further away from a station precinct.

New Coburg station is a banger. Fits the area perfect.

I used to live in Boronia. It cops a lot of flack and isn’t that bad. Like any suburb, a few dero’s but overall I had a great time. Boronia station isn’t great but certainly not the worst on the Melb train system.
