49 has gotta be Rupert Betheras, such a star.

51 was worn by David Clarke for Geelong in 1999.

Trying to think of some #46's. Paul Lindsay (two games for the Cats in '99, a fine SANFL career). 48 was worn by Matthew Bishop at Melb, and Mal Michael at Collingwood. Jake King? 45 - Gavin Mitchell at Freo? :D

Does anyone think David King has claims to Mick McGuanes number 34?

King - 241 games, 145 goals, 2 x premierships, 2 x AA

McGuane - 152 games, 128 goals, 1 x premiership, 1 x AA

#47 Rick Olerenshaw - if you want a bloke who is the worst t.v. personality, actually thats a bit harsh thats implying he has a personality.

#47 Laurie Angwin - my personal fav. People are forgetting this bloke wasnt actually half bad just a fruit loop

Alan Jarrott wore the number 47 in 170 games for North and Melbourne between 1977 and 1986.

I like Dale Morris over Roger James for 38.
He at least made an AA team.

A Gerard Healy special if ever there was one. Roger James is a much better footballer than Dale Morris.

Melbourne (1973-87)
  • 272 games 315 goals
I don't even barrack for Melbourne but surely must get a gig ahead of big
John

He held the record for the number of games for his club, 272, until overtaken by David Neitz in 2006.

It was not until 1987 that he played his first finals match, the last three games of his career were in the 1987 finals series. He played for the club he had supported all his life and his dedication to a team which, before his final year at least, had never looked likely to win a premiership, was commendable.

  • Melbourne best and fairest 1977
  • Club Captain 1981-1987
  • Victorian Captain
  • Victorian Team of the Century
Quote

In Ken Piesse's " The Complete Guide to Australian Football" Flower's player summary quotes Brent Crosswell "...beat Flower and you could just about retire from League Football because anything else smacked of anti-climax." Wayne Schimmelbusch in the same publication said: "I paid more attention to Robert Flower than any other opponent."

Look it's my list and I pick Harves over Daicos cos Harves was a clubman, Daicos was an older Milne pretty well, and while Daicos was great, I'd rather have a devoted player who would run his guts out week after week.

Milne should never, ever be mentioned in the same breath as Daicos. That said, I'd have Harvey from Prestigiacomo personally.

I can only really put forth names from the Hawks, and am only suggesting them for consideration. NOT saying they were the best, before I am accused of being biased.
