Bulldogs to play 2 games in Ballarat

Just read this one... thinking Glenn McFarlane is a bit of a flog: "the club is believed to be extremely disappointment with City of Ballarat and the Western Bulldogs for their backroom dealings in forging a partnership." What's that Glenn - as opposed to their campaigner of a president openly saying we're not good enough to play against on Good Friday? Get stuffed! As if I didn't hate them enough from the moment that flog Thompson decided to knee our big Bazza http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-05-20/in-the-moment-halls-headlock-on-thompson .

NORTH Melbourne has reacted swiftly after being blindsided and pushed out of Ballarat by the Western Bulldogs in seeking to end its alignment with VFL club North Ballarat at the end of the 2015 season.
The Kangaroos have had dual alignments with North Ballarat and Werribee since 2008, but will have Werribee as its sole VFL side from the start of 2016.
It comes as the Western Bulldogs look to extend its western corridor growth strategy to Ballarat - an area the Kangaroos have long cultivated.

The Bulldogs will play a NAB Cup game against Melbourne in Ballarat next March, and could play a handful of home-and-away games at Eureka Stadium from 2017 if Labor wins this month’s state election, following a $31 million stadium pledge.
While North Melbourne retains a strong working relationship with North Ballarat - with the alignment winning three flags in 2008-2010 - the club is believed to be extremely disappointment with City of Ballarat and the Western Bulldogs for their backroom dealings in forging a partnership.
Kangaroos director of football Geoff Walsh said: “North Ballarat is an exceptional football club steeped in tradition with a rich history full of success. We’re honoured to have been involved with everyone at the organisation and have the highest respect for all the hard-working players, coaches and staff.

“We will continue to work together next year and hope to maintain the many friendships and working relationships that have been developed.”
Werribee will retain the same name, nickname, colours, theme song and home ground under the new partnership. But North Melbourne will be more involved in team selection, match day, line coaching and training.
“Both clubs will benefit greatly from this new arrangement,” Walsh said.

“This strategic move will not only enhance both clubs’ football programs, but it will also help create a stronger platform for us to further engage with the community in the City of Wyndham and the Western Region through the Huddle and with our various schools programs and clinics.”
“Our association with Werribee during the partial alignment has been nothing short of positive and productive and we expect this level of spirit of co-operation to be further developed in the years to come.”
Former North development coach John Lamont will remain senior coach of the Tigers until at least the end of the 2017 season.
“The relationship between the two clubs is very strong, very healthy and has produced good results,” Lamont said.
“Werribee has developed players like Ben Brown and Luke McDonald that North has drafted, and we have seen North listed players like Mason Wood and Daniel Currie hone their skills playing for Werribee, all to the benefit of the North Melbourne Football Club.”
Werribee President John Nicol says the decision to fully align with North Melbourne was the result of exhaustive talks between the two clubs.
North Melbourne has resolved to retain its schools’ football program in Ballarat, which culminates in the Drew Petrie Cup.

Okay, the thing is North didn't want to commit solely to Ballarat and wanted the Tasmania money as well. How is it our fault that Ballarat wanted them to commit?

It's not. They're bitter because they know what the true ramifications of this are in a decade's time.

They wanted Ballarat in the back pocket hoping one day they could tell Hobart to GAGF once they'd bled them dry. They fail to understand their entire financial position is underpinned by the money received from Hobart.

They also know this move is a bad one for them in relocation terms. At some point both Hobart and the AFL will tire of the bit each way stance and put an ultimatum on them. They also know the AFL is actively seeking to reduce Hawthorn's footprint in Tasmania while at the Same time increasing theirs. Not a good situation when you don't own any assets and can't generate revenue any other way than selling games to Hobart.

Dogs have played this one well.

Surely we are making arrangements to take over n0rfs schools football program as well, so the poor kiddies don't have to suffer the indignity of playing for the "Drew Petrie Cup." I'd imagine that the team that takes out that coveted prize every year, just beats up on lesser opposition only to be made to look very ordinary by better teams from outside the program whenever they meet. Wont somebody please think of the children!

haha spot on

I hope the Club administration is thinking of ideas to make this a calendar highlight each year. Something that will draw the crowds from Melbourne and beyond as a can't miss feature of the year'. Anyone got any ideas what we could do?

I always thought why not link up with Steamrail (Based in Newport) and Hire a Steam Train for the day to do the trip from the City to Ballarat and back, Bulldogs Express type of thing

This is probably to test the waters to see what kind of market is out west.

There are already too many teams in Melbourne and spreading the locations seems logical if the AFL want to maximize profits and reach.
Long term there can only really be 4 teams in Melbourne.

Ballarat Bulldogs just rolls of the tongue.
