Beautiful peace of Aussie Muscle car....

We had the 4 door, 2 barrel back in the day.

Don't know if it was Thar She Blue or that was a special colour for the 2 door coupes. But it was blue.

Bit annoying though about those old cars, the seatbelts in the HQ are almost always hanging outside the door.

Apparently there's some sort of 'seatbelt holder' in the centre console but for the life of me I can't figure out how it is supposed to work.

Very nice :thumbsu:, but in my opinion a period number plate would top it off.

You may know this, but the R series black on white plates are only about $60 as a one off cost to buy the rights to the plate, plus from memory a $25 transfer fee, and if you get the right operator at the rego place they will sometimes turn the screen around so you can see what is available from your car's year of manufacture , not sure what the deal is with numeric only, white on black plates for a pre 1966 car though.

Had a look in a Shannons auction catalogue once and many of the number plates were worth more than the cars.

Who is out there paying six figures for a number plate?

EDIT
WTF just had another look a Valiant Charger sold for 42k, that is theft! I need to get to one of these auctions.

But not for number plates.

dont get to drive her as much these days. bought her as my first car when i was 16 and still have it 20years later.

I was advised to contact a company that auctioned number plates about a dozen years ago and they were talking telephone numbers

Agreed, auction prices for some number plates is ridiculous.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but for a classic car I like the look of a period number plate that ties into the year of a car's manufacture, (I still have one of the plates off my 1971 GTR Torana somewhere in the shed, but sadly not the car).
I was advised 10 or 12 years ago to contact an auction company ( not Shannons) that `specialised' in older SA plates, but they were talking ridiculous prices for a plate that almost certainly would have had little to no interest to the collector's market.
At the time their starting price was 2k for an `R' series black on white plate from 1968 that only a few months later I got through SA reg for $50.

I purchased another `R' series recently for a 1966 vehicle ( the first year of alpha-numeric plates in this state) that I bought from Qld in Feb and the price had risen to $62, which I believe is the standard price for all R, S and V series plates through the local rego office that are no longer allocated to a vehicle.

I have my number plate coming..... AP6V866 Sliver on Black.... that was my only option to have those numbers letters

Just had a google to see what cars like mine are going for and the average price on carsales.com would be over 50k, that's crazy.

Here I am thinking I've over insured at 45k and getting it lowered.

Your HQ (I think) is worth more than 50K any day of the week. Not that I was looking at Holden's, but the cost of Valiant from 10 years ago have increased easily by 200%. With all these new car pimping shows and other resto programs out there, rich people seem to be more inclined to buy an old classic than Ferrari or Lambo.....

I'm just happy that I have one of 1,440 of the 1st V8 Muscle cars put into production in Australia. Which to me, was the deal sealer for me. It only cost me 30K....cheap, cause if this was completely original it would be worth 50K easy, mine is not as the motor is now a 318 opposed to the 273. But I do have a 273 sitting in a shed ready to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, its not matching the chassis from the factory, buts it as close as I am going to get. The chassis number is a V8 model, just not the matching motor. I should insure mine for 50k, not at 30K.

You reckon?

I'd have the ceiling of a Premier at 50k, mine has just been restored on the outside, mostly original engine (changed manifold, carby, air cleaner, went from single to twin exhaust, not currently running a choke (cold weather sucks!)), no features like A/C or power steering, interior pretty good but could use some new carpet, all up I reckon 40k for mine.

A V8 Premier in original condition but fully restored and optioned out at the time, I would say 50k.

50k is a 4 door Monaro in average nic territory IMO.

But I don't reckon the market will ever go backwards. The Covid recession has only solidified it. Can't even find parts for my VY anymore!

Lovely.... Do you know the $30 black louver is worth $600 now, even though it didn't come standard. I remember wanting to buy one for my VF Valiant back 30 years ago from Ian Jones Auto on Port Road and chose not to and instead got the metal Venetian blinds that sit inside because they could easily be pinched. Another nice piece of Australian History.....

Good grief, well I have 2 in case I'm short for cash that's good to know. They aren't too easily pinched either, was a fight getting them back in after the resto, everything was airtight in all the moulding and seals.

Venetian's crack me up, a blinds system inside the car, it sounds all so quaint, then I see you can still get them for modern commodores and I started thinking about it...

I think Venetians add that little more class inside the car..... these were options at the dealers from factory.
