The only player that beat Nick Smith last year was Breust.

Bruest Had him multiple times last year, and spanked him. Only person in the comp to do so.

Betts is only behind Milne as the best long term player in that role of recent times. Breust has had pretty extraordinary results so early in his career though and is the better player at this point in time with the potential to have had the better overall career by the time he's done.

Yes, Puopolo may not always get the number 1 small D but EB does.

Puopolo doesn't get the best small defender, as he's a defensive forward himself. The best small defender goes to Breust, especially when Rioli is in the stands.

Eddie Betts got towelled by Angus Litherland in 2014, and he's 192cm. Duryea went elsewhere. So there goes the theory that Eddie gets the best small defender each week.

Saying Paul Puopolo gets the best small defender is akin to saying I have never watched Hawthorn play football.
