So my missus plays women's footy, and her team played and won, their Grand Final last week.
Now with women's footy still being relatively new, her team has a couple players who have only picked up the game this year and they lack a lot of knowledge that experienced players take for granted.
The teams had just returned to field from half time, and one of these newbie players, a forward pocket on our team, had a bright idea. Having heard our gun forward complain during the break about the very tight minding by her defender counterpart, newbie went over to the two players in the forward line and said to our gun forward,
"I'll take your player so you can get free."
Gun forward hears this, looks at her player and back to newbie, and says with a grin,
"You can try, but I don't think she'll co-operate."
To which the defender just shook her head.
Newbie thought that it was entirely possible for forwards to choose who they play on and that the opposition would just go along with it!
An innocent mistake, obviously, but I just found it so hilarious that I had to share it.
