Official Club Stuff Gameday Village ...annexed by the SMA

Who cares if it satisfies them. I'd love to see the SANFL actively try and close down an enterprise that's directly funnelling money into the game's grassroots. How would that make them look?

'Guardian Of Grassroots Footy Foils Port's Plan To Financially Assist Grassroots Football'.

They'd be duty bound to support it. Failure to do so would expose them as the money grubbing grinch's they are.

I'd like to think that there's a set of minutes from a PAFC board meeting that has these words in it verbatim.

Not really concerned about this at all the SMA and the SANFL can crack the sads all they want, but they have no legal ground or any grounds for that matter to shut down GDV and thats probably what they are annoyed about more than anything. The SANFL is becoming more and more irrelevant and they know it, thats what is pissing them off more than anything.

On MMM just now, the oldest member of the panel dropped a 'breaking news story' that the SMA is/was considering applying for an injunction against the GDV from operating.

The same member said port were being 'cheeky' by pocketing the 'massive profits' away from the Adelaide Oval.

Dom stood up for the GDV saying its there primarily saying its a place for mates to meet up before and after the game and have a drink together before being split up to their seats.

So by following the SMA logic, there should be an injunction against the Casino, Regatta's, all licenced prems on North Tce and North Adelaide... Screw it - throw in the Alberton Hotel cos f#%^ logic

GDV is on Tennis SA 'land'. They would have to take on Tennis SA as well to stop them from allowing GDV to operate.
Don't think they would do that... What a stink that would cause ....

So here we go again. The SMA/SANFL are against us again with the GDV, we've got the AFL pissing us off, and the usual Graham Cornes stirring up his old bullshit. So we have barely got to February and everyone is against us for 2016. Fine that's the way they want to play it, I say bring back to old Port Adelaide attitude on and off the field in 2016, if the AFL want to send clubs to view our pre game entertainment then we say nope not anymore, we don't pay our suspended players that's for the AFL and Essendon to work out. No more charity for anyone from us anymore.

I agree.. Was thinking .. bet it came out of bloody Ken Cunningham's mouth .. A known Port hater who can't stand the fact that the Crows did not think of it first.
Another thing the Club should do, after the AFL gifted NT zones to Vic Clubs is to say that those Clubs can play games in NT now .. leave Port Adelaide out , we will play at home ...

Yep I've had it with us doing the heavy lifting and the other clubs getting the benefits when the AFL come along.

It strikes me as the AFL have watched us grow the last 3 years and are now trying to remind us of our place or something like that.

There are going to be a hell of a lot of pissed off people on here when this story fully breaks!
Olsen and crew have really employed some very underhanded tactics in this fight!!

From what I understand, we have even offered the GDV to be available for the SMA to use and run on cow home games where they can keep the profits to do with as they like... But, they came back with a straight out NO - they want it for all the games!

We have ticked EVERY box legally and have approval from the council to operate and the SMA know that we will win in court, but we know that when we win that battle - they will slap even more spiteful and ridiculous sanctions and restrictions on the Magpies!!

You guys do realise that this is all for around $3000 profit per game!!! That's hardly the gold mine that is being talked about now is it?

I know I can't swear on here to match my mood on all of this but this is a farce but not unexpected with this mob of clowns.

The last month of footy/Port news has really tested my patience with the authority figures in the AFL, SANFL and SMA but this is the last straw. Maybe they should of thought of the idea of the GDV instead of trying to claim our idea, which is a great venue pre and post game and something I'm looking forward to having a beer with me mate at when we travel over.

The politics in football have gone to far now and it's time we stand our ground with these knobheads and if they wanna go to court then go to court.

They have no fn idea, I think it's more a jealousy and a hatred of a successful Port Adelaide initiative.
They would be losing a lot more money than port would be making out of the GDV.
I really hope it fails otherwise Ill have to find a pub somewhere else to have my pre and post game drinks.

If the crows had that set up I bet kg and co would be sprouting on how much a good idea it was. Hypocritical old campaigner, there is a reason you were sacked from 5aa, no one cares about your opinion so please sod off!

Exactly right!

If only the AFL would get their arse into gear and start up a national reserves comp so we can piss the SNAFL off completely... until then, they will always have leverage over us because we play in their pissy little backwater league with their grace and generosity!

There's no huge need for Port to run the Gameday Village, so long as something similar is there. There is a lot of work for a small profit and if the SMA/Tennis Australia want to run something similar I'm not fussed if we give it up. My full opinion is more complicated than that but that will do for starters. Come at me.

The way I read it the SMA is not concerned who runs the GDV, their issue is that it means they do not have a monopoly on all catering in the Adelaide Oval precinct. They want it closed.

Is there a café in NextGen? That will be in the SMA's sights next.

There is already something "similar"... I think its called the fans bar!

I can't see why having a monopoly on all catering in the Adelaide Oval precinct would matter to the SMA unless they were going to raise prices to those found inside the stadium, and that would be my concern. The SMA would be killing the goose that laid the golden egg. They would be knocking off one of the significant attractions about coming to a live game, a cheap place to meet before and after the game that is right next to the stadium. A place that costs them nothing.
Port got the setup absolutely right, the SMA should be sending Dave banner et al at the club a bunch of flowers. I would be saying the GDV concept is genius even of the Crows had come up with it.

Prices inside the stadium are already much higher than prices at the GDV.

The SMA don't directly care about the attraction of coming to a live game, that is the clubs' problem. The SMA already have full catering set up inside the ground. They don't want the extra overhead of running the GDV even if they are getting revenue from it. The simplest way for them to lever their existing catering assets to maximise profit is to shut down the GDV.

You didnt ask for the same...
My question was a genuine one, sorry if it was misunderstood. Is the SMA's "The Fans' Bar" similarly set up to the GDV i.e. food and drink noticeably cheaper than inside the stadium?
