you know, there was a question at the AGM the question by somebody was that the guy asked the President to promise that we would not become the NZ saints and based ourselves out of NZ. if we go ahead with the abve, the supporters will be up in arms.
True sammm
Hawk fans had a hissy fit at first when The Club put the word "Tasmania" on the front of the jumper.

I could handle Air New Zealand, or New Zealand Travel as a sponsor. I reckon this would sit nicely on the left chest section of our jumper:

Welcome to the man mountain. what an ironic surname. Hope he can play. I do worry at times that it's a bit like the Irish experiment. But you gotta be in it to win it I suppose.

worse case we stick him in the guts and use him as a battering ram and shield... kinda like an Interchange Depletion Specialist.

I think it's more like the Hunt/Falau experiment, given the rugby element, but also the underlying cultural affinity between Aussie Rules states that nonetheless still exists with NSW, Queensland and NZ. The Irish are just that little bit too different, culturally, to easily "get" AFL.

The other factor is that we're getting these kids started when they're still young, so they have less to unlearn. And, if as I suspect they start playing with our VFL team as soon as they're 18 (bit as scholarships, so not part of the salary cap), they won't just be learning how to play footy... From the very beginning, they'll be learning how to play the Saints' style of footy.

Damn, I love Pelch...

Hope we don't pay them as much as Falau FFS! :p

For anyone interested: Joe Baker-Thomas played in the early practice match for Sandy Dragons against Oakleigh Chargers on Sunday.

Anyone see how he went?
I talked to him at training and he said he's loving the opportunity and was really happy with his host family. He said he's still only 17 and he's already massive. Said he only picked up a football last year and is still learning but he looks like he's very tall and athletic. He trains pretty well for a guy who only just picked up a sherrin. The hard bit is probably kicking well when the tempo goes up though.

Listed at 193cm 84kg by the Dragons... The Mountain is already bigger!

Unc, not everything is about size. It helps, but looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane applies to many.

The scary bit is the guys they bring in have to be super elite athletes to be worth overcoming the lack of gamecraft. One of these guys will come on at some point and they have the sporting prowess. I had a mate who played Union in queensland he came to Melbourne and was better at AFL than me with in about 2 weeks. he was an A grade basketballer and skilled cricketer. Some guys are just sporting guns no matter what ball you give them. Hopefully these guys are that. Talking to Jason Holmes you couldn't help but love his determination to be better at the game. If I was to judge the characteristics that will let him make it to a high level footballer I would say he has got it. JBT has a pretty laid back attitude and seemed still a bit like a whirlwind was going on around him but he seems level headed and sensible and obviously has the raw athletic ability. These kiwis have age on their side too.

That's true but it's equally hard to find a place for the short blokes who play like Tarzan. Just ask Tommy Simpkin.

He's even got the sleeve on lay-by...
