It's funny that Johnson is keeping the 44, guess the number has important meaning to him.
Wirrapanda was 44 (Johnson big WCE supporter altho Wirra probs before his time tbh)

44 is a pretty cool number, especially if you make it your own, not too many 44's out there and the double 4 looks good

John Platten from Hawthorn did alright with 44 (not counting the damage done by repeatedly getting concussed)

Junior Rioli wore 44 in their last (cough) Premiership.

Daniel Bandy played 105 games for us in 44.

Across the AFL/VFL, the all time leaders for games played in jumper 44 are Justin Madden (Ess/Car) and Corey Enright on 332 games. Then its Richard Osborne who wore number 44 playing for all 4 clubs he played with for a tally of 283 games, and not far behind in the high 270's are Stephen Milne and Nigel Lappin. John Platten 258.

Current players wearing 44 in the AFL include Tim English, Tom Stewart, Cameron Zurhaar, Jake Lloyd. Jake Lloyd with the most games played -223.

I'm glad we kept the number 38 vacant to honour the great Eric Benning
I reckon Beattie, SVR and Voss are fighting for that prestigious honour!
