Junction oval deal looking likely

Article in todays Hun quoting Cricket Victoria says their studies have come up with a figure of 40 million still needed to fund the project. Still a pipe dream and the AFL have now pissed off CV because they feel they are hijacking the development of Junction Oval.

Where do St Kilda train in summer if cricket's being played there?

Also don't make the season longer FFS. It's too long as it is.
We get an oval next to the junction oval to train at.

Moorabbin didn't want us, they were trying to get rid of us.
I find it funny the council wants us back after kicking us out.

Junction Oval is Port Phillip, Moorabbin is Kingston also there may have been a changing of the guard at Kingston since the club had the issues.

They never did. Had nothing to do with having a training base exactly the same as what you got at Seaford, it was about pokie machines.
All we wanted to do was move our existing poker machines that we needed to underwrite the financials of the redevelopment.

Actually it was about a training base, the venue investment was to help pay for it.

Regardless, even if the redevelopment of Moorabbin had happened, this move would still make sense.

And at the time there was a big push for councils to lower the number pokie machines.

It was ridiculous that Kingston and StKilda couldnt see eye to eye on that. They have both lost out because of their stubbornness.

Will be interesting to see what the Pokie situation will be at Junction Oval or indeed what it was at Seaford.

There is none at Seaford, that's what makes no sense, they kept them at Moorabbin. The whole Seaford episode is some hot-headed football admins cracking the sads because they didn't get what they wanted. Tax payer funded 25 year lease on an oval they don't want to use.

This is the cricket side of the story.

In a statement released by CV on Sunday, chief executive officer Tony Dodemaide says there is still a long way to go with a number of obstacles still to overcome, the biggest being the funding gap.

"We note the story regarding the potential codevelopment at the Junction Oval in The Age yesterday and in particular, AFL’s new public commitment of $10 million, which is welcomed," Dodemaide said.

"At the same time, there is still a long way to go to work through the numerous issues that remain to determine if the football/cricket codevelopment model is viable.

"The most significant issues to be resolved include the project cost and the current funding gap.

"Official estimates of the amended scope, including the additional football related requirements, range from $59 to $74 million depending on a number of significant factors.

"The AFL’s new commitment of $10 million, combined with cricket’s initial pledge of $10 million and the State Government’s conditional commitment of a further $10 million, provides $30 million so far.

"This means the funding gap is somewhere between $29 to $44 million, not $15 million as reported yesterday.

"We are also very conscious that a range of stakeholders, particular in the area local to Albert Park, need to be consulted about the codevelopment alternative and its possible impacts.

"The previous version, based on a cricket centre with a number of community facilities, was designed in extensive consultation with Parks Victoria and local stakeholders and enjoyed wide support.

Yep the pokies venue is still at Moorabbin despite St Kilda being long gone.

Surely Cricket Victoria want Junction oval in a state to be able to host matches - i.e improved spectator and communication facilities, possibly better practice facilities.

St Kilda don't need any of that. They need a training and admin base. I don't see where the crossover is. They can't be just going along for the ride, as they must be having purpose built facilities exclusively (or at least most of the time) for them.

Not the sort of thing the AFL should be funding given their funding of Seaford.

Casey was always meant to be only a part time home of the dees though (just a tad more than the rare times we go now). But we still play our VFL alliance there. And I was at Casey for VAFA finals today it's not like the place goes unused.

Casey Fields would be one of the most frequently used ovals in Melbourne. One of its main tenants, Cranbourne FC, is one of the biggest football clubs in Australia when you consider the open age, underage and female teams. A few years back, the local council actually tried to kick them off because the ground was being used so much by the club. It also holds various football carnivals and junior finals throughout the year, so it's been a great investment for the whole community down that way.
