I don't know if knuckles mentioned it, but the Adelaide oval curator ( who was probably Arthur Lance back then ) used to live in a house that was inside the oval grounds and just behind the mound at the river end.
He must have been a very heavy sleeper as the echo of the axe hitting the goal post would have been incredibly noisy at night in an empty stadium.

I was at the game, northern end right behind the goals. Still can't believe Colin Browne didn't make the distance let alone have the accuracy as he seemed to be only about 30 yards from goal.

I was there too, sitting on one of those wooden seats near the fence in the scoreboard pocket with my grandma.
Give or take 5 metres or so I saw all of the 6 flags in a row from about the same spot. :thumbsu:

Likewise, saw all six from the same spot.

1950-1981 32 seasons, 22 Grand Finals, 14 Flags, 8 lost Grand Finals

That 1950-81 period was unbelievable. Never went 4 years without making a GF. Only missed GF's in 1950, 52, 60,61, 69,70, 73,74,75, 78

1945-1999 55 seasons, 35 Grand Finals, 23 Flags, 12 lost Grand Finals

1901-1939 39 years, 23 Grand Finals, 10 Flags, 13 lost Grand Finals + 2 x 2nd placings by SANFL system
Take out 3 years in WWI competetion was suspended in 1916,17 and 18.

1901-1939 36 seasons, 23 Grand Finals, 10 Flags, 13 lost Grand Finals + 2 x 2nd placings by SANFL system

The 1901-1939 years vs the 1950-81 years are similar in terms of Grand Finals made, but lost more of those close GF's.
