LVFL Discussion 2022

Bit hit and miss. For example Leitchville/Gunbower are reasonably strong in the 18's yet say Heathcote are struggling, however when you look at their 2's it's the other way round. Clubs are always going to struggle to put 3 teams on the park and be competitive in all 3. Important thing is that they DO, irrelevant of the results. Once you lose your u18's I reckon it's damn near impossible to get them back. Unfortunately that's where the LV is atm. Is it time for them to abandon the idea of an 18's comp? Hard to say.
I think serp, miti and calivil will merge soon
If YC and Marong go and these 3 merge a 5 team LVFL wont go ahead. Nulli going into NCFL makes a 9 team comp there so where to for the other LV teams? Amalgamations and join HDFL?

I can see the region losing one league and the Goulburn Murray lose one league through natural attrition within the next three years.

AFL Victoria are at least three years overdue for a statewide review of all of its regions. With the code coming out of the Covid era, AFLV should be showing proactivity and conducting these reviews over the summer with a view for a mid-2023 release, providing a short-term roadmap for the regions beginning in 2024.

The only areas that seem to have little need for change is Sunraysia/Millewa and Hampden/Warrnambool. Barwon seems too complex for change as netball needs to be taken into account for all of its football proposals.

Go and get some sides from elsewhere. Boort, Wandella and Macorna??

Or Harcourt, Maldon and Newstead??

Look at all league ladders. the gulf between the top half and bottom half is widening each year so something needs to be done sooner rather than later. If it be league or club amalgamations or league restructuring, for once hopefully the snouts in the trough could give some guidance.

Same problem arises if Macorna or Wandella join GRFL stuffed, restructure needed through the whole state. Big decisions need to be made quickly.Surely the AFLVIC must have seen these things coming for years and have some plan in mind.

I think the north central and golden rivers clubs alive will join the LV, as most of their players come from Bendigo, most NC clubs are struggling for juniors, wyche and Charlton have already nearly merged

We are going to see a number of 'Quambatooks' over the next decade or two in the NC-GR-LV region (and elsewhere).

Quamby was realistic enough to face facts and admit that there aren't enough kids coming through to be sustainable and called it a day. They could have gone on for a couple more years and ended up struggling through their last season by having a heap of players double up or forfeit their reserves most weeks but instead they decided that now is the right time and to fight hard to win a premiership in their final season and go out on a high.

Their hope is that their senior and junior players will find a home with nearby clubs (the likes of Mallee Eagles, Nullawil, Wycheproof-Narraport, Kerang) next year and into the future. However, when these clubs reach the point Quambatook has, the process is going to happen again. In the end, we will end up with one club in the region where there are 5-6 now and ultimately we will end up with something like a Loddon Valley FC in the Bendigo league and a North Central FC in the Central Murray league.

AFL Victoria aren't going to provide leadership on this matter - their focus is elsewhere. Clubs and leagues state wide will need to be proactive or realistic about the future country football is facing in order for clubs to survive in some form.

As sad as it is, we can't avoid this scenario unless the region's population reverses historical trends and rises.

No surprise really that Maiden Gully have been knocked back to join the HDFL.
How's AFL central Vic not even providing them justification, they could have said we'd prefer you go into the Bendigo league, didn't their thirds have a winning margin of 80 points, so kids were leaving? That's why they pulled the pin on their thirds? Not sure why anyone thinks putting maiden gully, one of bendigos most popular suburbs for families to build would be a good idea to play against calivil, mitiamo, serp, Inglewood, Newbridge, where bigger all kids live in the first place
