What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

Around 3500 doctors have written an open letter to the government, authored by intensive care specialist Greg Kelly:

Doctors warn against Italy-level disaster

According to the letter, Australia's health system and spread of age demographics are similar to Italy's, rather than China's.

"On current growth rates, the 300 cases in Australia today will be … 10,000 by the 4th of April" the letter reads.

They argue that under current preparations, Australia will be "in a worse position than Italy is currently in".

I was wondering when you'd poke your head out again....Little Graham the anti-vaxxer.

And still posting crapola.
Don't quote his bullshit. Just makes more work for the mods to clean up all the rubbish

Okay the WHO have declared Covid-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, which means that they opened up their Emergency Use Listing (EUL). https://www.who.int/diagnostics_laboratory/EUL/en/

What does this mean - it means that testing via this method is fast tracked and by-passes country regulations as it is run by the WHO. (They are the ones you should be all be looking at for the best information. If you want to see what research is currently ongoing around the world they have a list here - https://www.who.int/emergencies/dis...lobal-research-on-novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov

It's a big list!

Feel like the 'if you arrive after today, you need to go into quarantine" should be changed to 'if you have arrived anytime from 3-March you must go into isolation for 14d and any future arrivals will also need to go into quarantine"

And lock us down now. Re-purpose old hospitals, source or manufacture necessary equipment, use the time to prepare.

still did our after school tennis lesson today, I called the boss Sunday and asked if we were going ahead, anf he said yes we are a low risk activity.

i arrive today and he gives me some plastic gloves to wear and I gave him 'a look' a look a woman gives a man in the 'you can't be serious' zone
numbers were down as to be expected but a mum comes along and says 'the gloves are a bit extreme you look stupid, that ain't gonna do jack..' I just shrugged my shoulders and said its good PR it shows we're at least attempting to be safe. This woman then proceeds to open a packet of Jatz and the entire 20 kids there all stick their hand in the box and grab themsleves some Jatz..... I honestly couldn't believe what I saw.

we are all screwed, we all gonna get it because the general population have no idea how serious this is as they all think it ain't gonna happen to them.

What happens when Universities are shut down? That testing comes to a halt or is severely restricted.

You can't fast track to market or import from other countries without being okay'd by the TGA - https://www.tga.gov.au/prescription-medicines-biologicals-new-registrations. There is an option to prioritise a drug to market, but they will still abide by the regulations - as they state on the website it "involves faster TGA evaluation of vital and life-saving medicines for which a complete data dossier is available." That last part is the most important. They need the data and you can't fast track human trials.

How many humans are going to be available to be tested is another major problem for researchers and their teams.
You talk about this like it's typical. Like it's someone bringing a new opiate pain killer to market, or a hair loss treatment.

What we're approaching isn't a debt based recession like 2009. It is a massive productivity based depression that will potentially destroy entire economies, if the strategy remains "let's all stay at home and keep our distance from any risk of the virus."

I'm sure the Chinese government will end up offering thousands of people for testing. They have a far higher tolerance for human rights abuses, and that's during GOOD times. We will turn a blind eye to it, because unemployment will be approaching 20%, and mortgage stress will be destroying families and potentially our entire banking and superannuation system. You cannot overestimate how much of a house of cards our overleveraged financial system is.

Well either turn a blind eye to the testing, or to the 1% mortality rate. Something is going to give.

Unless the vaccine is ready immediately it'll make little difference to the issues you're suggesting.

It's highly likely most people will get it before a vaccine is ready even if one is ready this year. It's too late for that.

Seems a vaccine might only be one answer to beating this insidious bloody virus.

“This information will allow us to evaluate any vaccine candidates. In an ideal world the vaccine should mimic our boodies.”
The work could also boost efforts to develop an antibody therapy to beat coronavirus.
Rather than a vaccine, some scientists are pushing to develop drugs that mimic the weapons used by the immune system to kill the virus, which would be enhanced by the discovery of the antibodies.
While the study should provide some reassurance for the 80 per cent of people who can easily fight off COVID-19, it may have far greater benefits for those at most risk.
By testing a person’s blood for the build up of coronavirus-fighting antibodies as they become ill, Prof Kedzierska said doctors may be able to identify those who cannot fight off the virus on their own and need hospitalisation and interventions.

Researchers in QLD are ready to start trialling a drug. They are planning to start a preliminary test on 2400 patients.

The drugs are an old anti malariaL (chloroquine) and an old drug used to treat HIV

They are already both approved for use.

Australian society was praised during the Bush fire crisis.

For most of us it was easy to make a (tax deductible) donation and sit back on a lazy Sunday arvo and watch a concert on TV.

All the while pat ourselves on the back and talk up how community minded we are.

But now it is every man for himself. Dog eat dog as those able to, pick clean the shops with little care for ensuring there is enough for all.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, moi, moi, moi......

Necessity is the mother of invention.

If you genuinely think we're all going to be shut up in 18 months time while the economy collapses around our ears, then I think you're being naive.

The Chinese will jump straight to human testing the moment they have something to test.

Every nation on earth is turning their attention to solving this. There are multiple treatments and vaccines that are approaching testing stage. These will be fast tracked beyond what is legally typical.
I think they should only give the vaccine to the elderly and those with pre-existing medical condition, as most just catch it and get better without any treatment within days like a bad cold. The entire population need to build an immune resistance to this to cope with the next Coronavirus outbreak.

It's a sobering reminder that society is just a veneer. We're just monkeys at the end of the day.

They think this makes them look good but all it does is show everybody just how arbitrary these data caps are in the first place.

Article in our local rag the Pyrenees Advocate today about people from Melbourne hitting our local supermarkets in Beaufort, Avoca, Ararat, Skipton etc and stripping the shelves, wouldn't have believed until I went up to the Beaufort IGA today and saw it for myself, no pasta, rice, no baked beans, no tinned soups hardly and no packet soups, no bread, toilet paper, nappies, very limited soap and disinfectant etc....so much so that most items are now on a limit of 2 per shopper. It's total ******* madness. The local lady that served me said they've seen people they've never seen before buying up by the cart full hence the limits they've put in place.
