If Mark Neeld had been pissing off guys like Beamer, Sylvia etc. but had been developing kids like Stringer, Macrae, Hrovat, Bontompelli etc while doing it I would have wanted the club to tell the older guys to **** off.

Its remarkable, also because those senior guys havent exactly carried them up the ladder

Those young kids couldnt have developed any better and I would happily take McCartney on as a development coach

Very bizarre presser from Dogs HQ right now. Their chairman is busy singing the praises of Griffen, hoping he'll stay as a 'required player', and that McCartney was 'too demanding' of the playing group?!?

Nope. We're still a bigger joke.

Til we start winning we are rabble.
I'd MUCH rather be us right now. Of course we need to start winning more, but they're in shambles, like we were. For the first time in a while we're not the biggest basket case.

Bulldogs CEO slamming our pick 3 in his press conference. What a joke. Gave no objective and intelligent reason either. Out of all the things to focus on in this press conference, that's not one of them.

Shows where they're at.

Boy oh boy wowee the offseason is usually the time I go MIA from football but who can stay away?

It's like a train full of TNT with a baby driver hurtling towards a nuclear reactor with a puppy at the control panel.

I, for one, cannot look away.

Another coach who seemed to have an alright year sacked because of senior players, interesting times, the players certainly weilding more power lately - even non free agents are selecting clubs of choice mid contract. AFLPA too powerful now?

Everyone has to be Ken Hinkley within 2-3 years or they are fired
Does anyone actually think a different coach would have the bulldogs playing much better?

You hope this isnt their Bailey moment where they look back and realise he was doing a decent job with the troops at his disposal

I reckon it may well be.
The tail is still wagging the dog.

Sacking or forcing the resignation of McCartney would be a weak decision, showing a player is above the club.

It's weak, but it is much easier to sack and replace a coach than it is to get new players in.

It's not going to help. McCartney was fine, he was making progress. Losing Griffen would have hurt but it also would have presented an opportunity to really unify the group and say that they will not let one player destabalise them, even if that means losing a captain and champion of their club.

Now they can have Griffen stay for a year and if they band-aid doesn't hold he'll piss off for nothing next year, and they'll have to attempt to learn a new regime under a new coach.

Yes, demanding those elite standards from the players was way out of line. 14th is an entirely respectable place to stay for the next few years.

I agree, but you see it all the time in sport. Senior player or players start grumbling about the coach / manager, and not far down the track the boss gets the flick. It's about as inevitable a chain of events as having the board's 'full support', '100% behind him' or receiving the dreaded 'vote of confidence'. I thought McCartney was doing pretty well with the Dogs - maybe didn't build on 2013 this year as they could have, but still had plenty of good games and more development out of their kids. Couple of key position players and they're a shout at sneaking into the top 8... until they rock and capsize the boat.

This all bodes well for us progressing next season on field, we are stable committed and will be more talented again next year Whilst other middle rung clubs panic we appear to have clear future set out

Its brilliant for Goodwin, Roos lays the groundwork and avoids the pressure of building whilst Goodwin gets to step in as we should be about ready to challenge for finals football when we should be primed and settled with a gameplan and philosophy

Or so you thought, until this time next year Herbert Lambsanga criticises the Roos / Goodwin axis of evil leading to the board sacking them, Captain Jones joins St Kilda via free agency, Hogan requests a trade home to Perth and ends up in Brisbane and Dom Tyson retires from football to pursue a career as the perfect hair model. Mitch Clark is linked with the now vacant coaching role.

Its annoying that 90% of that is a 100% chance to happen

The 10% being Mitch Clark cant be linked with the role because he is still on leave after telling Geelong he was abducted by aliens

Telling stat

The experience of the Cats with Bomber post 2006 should reinforce this point. Sacking a coach isn't no guarantee of improved performance. Big issues for the Dogs now though. Losing their coach and a lot of their experienced players over one off-season is going to really hurt them I think.
