Unlucky Tigers.

Observations.......

Campbell looks very promising
Dusty what a gun as usual, noticeably a cut above everyone else on the ground
Nank and Lynch impacted the team positively as expected
Bolton a good ordinary player. Had a shocker today
Ross showed why he;'s a good VFL player
Pickett, usually poised under pressure, was the opposite today
Baker not up to his usual good form, but showed heart when it mattered
Dow, average VFL player
Mansell a handy player, goes in hard. Needs to take his time from set shots
Vlastuin and Grimes back to their best tonight
Gibcus is our new Ben Griffiths

Considering the glaring weaknesses in our team, we did well.

Either Carlton are over rated or we're underrated

Probably not in the right frame of mind to say this immediately after a game like that but Bolton has to be one of the most frustrating players to watch and maybe just maybe the club has to look to the future and trade him while he has currency.

He just seems to be the type of player who will star in a star team but in a more average team like we are now he is almost a luxury item that we can no longer afford to keep. His footy IQ seems to go from 100 to zero in the same moment.

So proud of the boys for their efforts tonight, backs against the wall, Lynch under done, 3 players down and backing up after a 5 day break (a ridiculous situation in the 2nd round of a season especially having played interstate the week prior).

Again hate to mention but our gamestyle is supposedly different and yet in a highly contested game we still manage to get smashed in the free kick department. Would be nice just one day to reverse those numbers against another side, probably won't see it in my lifetime.

Apparently this is the year for Carlton and we’re winning the spoon!

Pundits, don’t you luv ‘em!

At least the effort was there, but jeez, the poise. Mansell to stretch the lead. Lynch to stretch the lead.

A couple of minutes later, Owies on the minimum wage shows the million dollar+ player how to kick a clutch goal. So disappointing. Very brave, but we butchered that.

Ps. remember how shattered GWS and Kingsley were when we narrowly beat them last year. We could well be on the right track.

Pps. Same jumper, same game as Rance i 2019. Breaks your heart.

Positives:
Balta and Vlos has tremendous games.

Lynch competed well considering where he was coming from, made an impact at contests and had way more TOG than we would’ve hoped. Hopefully he hasn’t pulled up too sore.

Hopper had a great first half but felt like he faded.

Our forward line looked functional with Balta taking a heap of contested grabs and Lynch competing. We’re dying for a consistent small crumbing forward though. Wish we had Butler back!

Our backline did exceptional considering we lost Gibcus and Young in the first half.

Negatives

In the second qtr we just couldn’t get our hands on the pill. Carlton chipped it around easily and could’ve easily piled on 6 goals but we were lucky to come out of that avalanche still in the game.
On the contrary we don’t have the ball users to do that at times to control the game.

Gibcus injury. Poor kid, shattered for him.

Was pretty frustrated with Mansell and M Rioli. Both had opportunities to shine and either fumbled or just seemed off the pace.

he seems to waltz around giving the impression he doesnt care, too cool.

So many played injured, umps cheating and we still nearly won.
Yze is a great coach and proud of our team's efforts.
The two gimme goals by the umps ,start of the last, gave them all the momentum.
CFL.

Bolton has the attitude that he just does not give a single s**t about the game. We should've won tonight; but, injuries, a few stupid moments ala mansell rushing the snap and the obvious umpiring favouritism to carlton ruined it. Carlton are definitely not as good as they're made out to be, and we aren't as bad as we are tipped to be.

Weird isn't it - lost a close one to hated rival and yet - I actually feel pretty good about things. 3 men down, our next 'superstar' has the worst game of his career, some (some!!) dodgy decisions in the last quarter, but if the ball had bounced our way just once in the last 30 seconds we could have won. Very promising signs.

And then I remember Gibcus and feel s**t again.

Excellent effort. Can’t fault it. The effort. 3 blokes down so was always going to be tough to stay with them.

Balta hopper Nank Vlas and Bakes in the second half kept us in it.
Pickett lifted also. Taranto well held but still battled on and did some important things.

Unfortunately Bolton couldn’t turn on any magic tonight.

The umps as usual didn’t help. But when have they.

Onwards

We were fatigued by 3/4 time folks. Of course tackles weren’t going to stick and unforced errors were going to come. It was an immense effort by our boys so look up and see the positives as that’s the most fight ive seen from our team in awhile.

Genuinely can’t remember a time we’ve had umpiring turn the momentum our way. The umpiring for the first five minutes of the last was absolutely putrid, with the De Koning 50, the cherry on top.

Boys should be extremely proud of their performance tonight, injuries, undermanned and horrific umpiring all against them.

Congrats to the umps, they deserve 3,2,1 in the brownlow votes

But thats a bloody gutsy effort from us, galvanising and season defining being 3 down to put out an effort like that regardless of the result. Im impressed at the gumption and belief of our players and coaching staff.

The bad: Pickett cost us, Bolton cost us and Mansell cost us. They all just need ro get the basics right.

Honestly expected to lose tonight, we’re just not it this year, but really expected Carlton to win by 40 or 50 points. I’m so proud of them, yeah they made some absolutely stupid mistakes but they didn’t give up, they kept fighting to the end, that’s all you can ask win or lose.
