Autopsy Round 13, 2023: Sydney v St.Kilda *PRIDE GAME*

Not only that, Blakey's arms are clearly not pinned, and he did not suffer a concussion - so how is this a dangerous tackle? I think the Monty Python crew are running the MRO because this makes about as much sense as acknowledging a man's right to gestate a foetus,......:dizzy:

It should be an easy argument to get the Butler suspension overturned but we will probably go into the tribunal with someone as bad as this lawyer guy.

Was at Moorabbin 1989 - Plugger kicked 10 goals 7 & 2 out of bounds out of our 13 goals including the winning goal from a Winmar pass. The joint was rocking!

Took apart the Full Back of the Century - SOS.

Best individual game I’ve seen
Was a great day a big big night lol

At the start of the 3rd quarter last night as players were lining up before the bounce our boys lined up from the goal square out in front of the St Kilda away fans bay end in a straight line as part of the 6 inside 50

Mitch goal square
Max 30 metres
Pou just inside 50

I remarked to my mate at the time, that is 3 players you build a premiership team foundation on. Other teams have not had as much at the start of their build.

Just rewatched the game and Butler’s pressure was excellent.
We’ll really miss him if we can’t overturn the decision.
Had a very good season he is underrated think RTB would love his effort

He and Higgins both having great years

It must have been amazing to be at Moorabbin back in 1989 when we knocked off Carlton for the first time in ages.

Getting up in the last minute too with a great kick from Winmar to Lockett and a great handball from Jayson Daniels to release Winmar.

I was just a teenager back then watching on Ch7 back in Perth looking for a team to support as I didn't like West Coast and games loke that sold me.

I've been a Saints supporter ever since.

I was there too - under the clock in the outer. Got wacked over the head by an old lady Blues supporter with her umbrella
for giving to it to SOS after the siren. Probably was his grandma.

Was there with my 88 year 12 Chelt High school mates on a catch up day out who most were (cough cough bandwagon) Blues supporters. The few of us that were true heartland Saints supporters as kids that lived the dark days of the years after the 60's and early 70's golden era enjoyed that day like it was a grand final. I know we get bagged for that by other club fans but those times just before the new dawn of Plugger, Spud, Loewe, Burkey, Harves, Cuz were f*ing grim and that was the culmination, beating our most despised opposition after all the sh*t they'd poured on us during the 80's.

When you see a 50 year old Saints supporter when they look slightly crazed never discount that their youth was spent in those terrible lean years from 79 to 86.

Geez I love that ground and this club and that day was glorious.

Also remember about the same time walking into the Moorabbin Members (got invited to some function) & just before I got in I was shaded by a very dark shadow & felt a presence - looked up & it was Plugger walking in (suspended or injured can’t remember). Very large and intimidating man!

A girl I used to work with was Troy Luff (Swans) cousin - played in the backline near Plugger and said he had never been so scared in his life!

I have seen tackles this year where it got paid for holding the ball, it was far more “dangerous” and “careless” compared to Butlers.

You might as well remove tackling, it’s unpredictable with the pace we play at, and it’s not something we should keep fiddling with.

If we are gonna keep modifying how we tackle, how we should drag the player it’s going to ruin the game.

This game is a bit before my time so hadn’t seen it before, but wow, that’s awesome. Plugger, Harvey and Winmar running around. And how was that hand ball to winmar in the final passage, idk who did it but that was awesome.

One day Nasiah and Max are going to dominate a game between them and it’ll be magical.

We used to stand under the timer clock too back in the day and I remember this game as a 13 year old watching Plugger rip SOS new one!

I get what the AFL is trying to do, but they’ve only looked at the head knocks issue from one direction.

Blakey was taking on the play. When you do that, when you extend the time you are in possession of the ball, you need to be expecting the possibility of being tackled from outside your line of sight. The play all around you doesn’t stop.

I reckon if HTB and incorrect disposal were paid more often:
1. Players will adjust for the perceived pressure; and
2 Tacklers won’t be as incentivised to always take the player to ground as you won’t necessarily need to to earn a free kick.

Anyway, despite the fact we have terrible Counsel (have we ever won one?), this needs to go to the Tribunal. Butler was not careless. Blakey’s decision to take on the play and his lack of awareness made it look that way.

Sad that after that win someone has to come on here and bag the crap.out of Windy.
He jumped ahead of Mitch last year and was playing good football before breaking his hand.
He has struggled a little with defensive systems and wrnt back and got a tonne of possessions in the VFL.
First full game back for months and he gets compared to Tom Ledger. Yeah righto. Always some to be Debbie downers.

Catching up on the thread but I have no clue how people are bagging windy so much! Go back to last year everyone said Windy was the bonafide star and Owens was raw needing to prove himself. Windy won our best young player award at the BNF. He was talked up like our petracca. Does NO ONE remember that legendary basketball bounce and turn he did?

I don’t think it was this board overrating him, he did get a rising star nod and played some good games in the back half of last year and it’s the club that hyped him up in the preseason.

He’s struggled this year and has been the sub a lot but he wouldn’t be the first. Let’s see if he can turn it around he’s still got plenty of time at this stage.

Very true. I am as critical as anyone, but after a body of work. Kid is 19, played ok today, first game back, but Tom Ledger? FMD.

Read this thread half the comments are about windy! Short ******* memories on this board windy will be a joint brownlow winner and premiership captain with Owens.

Everyone saying he was going to be Judd, danger, dusty now they’re saying he’ll be seb Ross

His body strength in close was his biggest asset. Part of that was due to his bodybuilding. Losing significant weight to build his aerobic capacity has not worked and has hurt his game.

I hope i am wrong and it's all post collarbone related but the signs were there last year as well even though he was rated highly by some.
When are we going to roast Ross Lyon for making jack Steele lose weight? I want him held accountable for breaking my favourite player.

Ross has done some good but turning our captain into this husk is shameful. I’d post the article again but I’ve done it enough

Don't agree - why should we be the guinea pig for making the AFL realise that Christian is no good at his job.

What he's done is throw his hands up in the air and go this ones to hard for me - I know what I'll do - I'll give Butler a week and let St Kilda and the tribunal sort it out.

What he should have done accordinging to the Tribunal Guidelines is not penalise Butler and see if the AFL wanted to appeal it.

Weak - clearly doesn't understand the rules he's meant to judge incidents on.

PS Tribunal guidelines on dangerous tackles clearly shows Butler's doesn't meet the ctiteria

3. Rough Conduct (Dangerous Tackles)
The application of a tackle may be considered Rough Conduct which is unreasonable in the circumstances.
In determining whether the application of a tackle constitutes a Reportable Offence and whether the offence is

Careless or Intentional, without limitation, regard may be had to the
following factors, whether:
» The tackle consists of more than one action, regardless of whether
the Player being tackled is in possession of the ball;
» The tackle is of an inherently dangerous kind, such as a spear tackle
or a tackle where a Player is lifted off the ground;
» The Player being tackled is in a vulnerable position (e.g. arm(s) pinned)
with little opportunity to protect himself;
» An opponent is slung, driven or rotated into the ground with excessive force.

Not when they were.drafted together and a lot of the board considered him a better prospect in his first year
Yep. “Owens a maybe player doesn’t even play midfield”

“Windy midfield gun Petracca like”

In the first year. People were baffled Owens got first crack in round 1 2022. Windy cemented his place in the side for the rest of 2022. He was looking so good.

Just as good as Owens!

Imagine being offered a job not because you were the best person for the role, but because it meant you helped make up a quota of sorts, to be fair, I think half them men commentator's could be culled as well, so it's not a gender thing, it's a lack of interesting things to say thing

Networks have less staff and once they had department heads with a passion for the game. Now they run lean with staff across different areas stretched and less specialised interests. You can't employ the right callers and special comments people if you don't get the game yourself. It seems like they are scared of the character types too and try a bland mass appeal approach.
