The senior team might be in Norwood to play the "Gather Round", but the Box Hill Hawks finally have a home game and all are welcome. The Hawks blew the doors off the Cats last round to the tune of 55 points in the curtain raiser to the Easter Monday clash, and will approach the game against the Pies full of confidence, having won their first two games of the season (the Hawks had a bye sandwiched between rounds 1 and 3).

Since the Hawks have only played two games so far this season, the Hawks currently sit fourth on the VFL ladder, as it's still early days. Every other team in the top eight (ranging from Casey Demons on top) down to ninth (the Giants) have all played three games, compared to two games for the Hawks.

The Pies come into Sunday's game against Box Hill sitting seventh on the ladder, having won their first two games of the new season before dropping last weekend's game to the Lions by 67 points on Easter Thursday. The match was relatively close for the first half of the first quarter, but the Lions gradually eased away from Collingwood, and wound up winning 17.16.118 to 7.9.51, with the Magpies held to just two goals after half-time.

Against the Cats, the Hawks jumped out to a 16 point lead at quarter time, and then eased further ahead in the second quarter by keeping the Cats to four behinds, while kicking 2.5.17 for the second quarter. The Hawks found their kicking boots in the third quarter, stretching the lead out to 65 points at three quarter time by kicking 7.1.43 to the Cats' 1.1.7. The Cats managed to kick five goals in the fourth quarter, while holding the Hawks to just three goals, but the match had been long done as a contest by this stage.

Turning to team selection, and the Hawks have made five changes to the side that defeated the Cats, including the potential inclusion of co-captain Hugh Beasley for what could be his first game of 2023. Joel Trudgeon (Northern Knights and Carlton VFL) has also been named and is line for his Box Hill debut, while Hawthorn-listed former Oakleigh Charger, Josh Weddle, could also make his first appearance for the season. Finn Maginness and Cam Mackenzie are named in the squad, despite the latter having been listed by the senior club as being Hawthorn's tactical sub for the match against the Giants.

Going out of the team will be Seamus Mitchell (called up to Hawthorn), Denver Grainer-Barrass (Hawthorn) and Ned Long (Hawthorn), while Henry Hustwaite will not line up for the game due to a head knock suffered against Geelong. Stu Horner is the unlucky VFL-listed player to have been omitted (for now).

Squad: Lachie Bramble, Max Lynch, Cooper Stephens, Jacob Koschitzke, Connor Mackenzie, Sam Butler, Finn Maginness, Fionn O'Hara, Josh Morris, James Blanck, Josh Weddle, Max Ramsden, Josh Bennetts, Bailey Macdonald, Jack O'Sullivan, Damian Mascitti, Hugh Beasley, Joel Trudgeon, Callum Porter, Jaylon Thorpe, Ed Philips, Ethan Stanley (23rd man), Callum Brown
