Coney Island Warriors (9) v Baghdad Bandits (12) at Van Cortlandt Park
In this game, we see the Warriors who came off a close lose to the Wolves in the previous week; and the Bandits who didn't fair much better trounced by 10 goals at the hands of the Las Vegas Bears.
The game got off to a lazy start with ball visiting a lot of the ground without much scoring. But accuracy was the key in the first quarter as both teams managed to kick straight. The Warriors had the leg up in the first quarter with 3 goals to 2.
The second quarter got off to a better start for the Warriors, as they pushed out to a 20 point lead. And where able to keep it until about the 21st minute mark, where 2 goals to Bigeasy bought the difference below 10 points. At the end of a strong 5 minute period, the Bandits where only short by 3 points leading into to the second half of the game.
Coney Island pushed out of the blocks early in the third quarter again, and they had a lead of 32 points at the 16 minute mark. The Bandit could only bring this back to a four goal gap leading into the last quarter.
The last quarter didn't go as expected for the Bandits, as they only managed 1 goal to the Warriors 5. The Warriors took the 4 points 124 - 75 at the end of the day.
A lack of scoring opportunities cost the Bandits, as they were super accurate in front of goal. But Coney Island where too strong through the centre and forward line, racking up possession after possession through out the game.

The Royals needed to start this season off strongly, if last season's brain fade was anything to go by; and the Bears want to show that last week wasn't a fluke by any standards. So both teams were extra keen for a win.
In the first quarter, the Royals and Bears both went goal for goal, however costly misses from the Royals meant they could have easily been a few goals up unstead of a point behind as they had 8 scoring shots to 4.
The second qaurter didn't start any better for the Royals as they squandered a few opportunites before they where able to find their way a goal up early into the quarter. Things started to settle down after that, but it was obvious looking at the scoreboard at half time that the early missed were costing the Royals of a good lead in the game.
This time it was the Bears that got out to a nice lead in the third quarter. However, the Royals where about to drag it back down to within a goal at the last break.
It was still pretty close towards the end of the game, with 5 minutes to goal the Bears were up by 4 points. The Royals seemed to gather alot of the ball, but could not seem to move it forward fast enough, they needed a goal that could win them the game. With a minute to go, the ball was in the hand of The Old Dark Navy's , who from the forward pocket was able to pivot around a snap a massive goal for the Royals and seal a 2 point win.
The early inaccuracy could have been costly for the Royals, and throughout the game it felt as though it would have been easier to have those few goals in hand. Luckily for them, a last minute goal sealed a nice win.

ROUND 2: FIGHTING FURIES V ROYS FFC
PRE MATCH: One had a Norf esque S20 fade out, while the other won the flag. One side won to kick of S21, the other didn't. The stage was set for this clash, where last seasons premiers, the Fighting Furies, came against the Retirement Home team, known as Roys FFC. The Furies were looking to bounce back from a first off loss, while the Roys wanted to continue a good start to the season, after a shocking fade out. A good, active match thread, with 26 pages at time of writing, shows that both sides are healthy for this season, which can only make the league a better place.
SIDES:
1ST QUARTER:
A typical quality SFA start with that bounce. Then 2 minutes in RU_ kicked a massive torp to start the game off well for the Roys. Another quality start lead to a Furies goal to level up the scores. This Is Anfield kicked his 2nd shortly after. The two sides traded points before the Roys goaled again, shortly after though, fumbler kicked another goal for the Furies. The Roys quickly slammed on 3 goals, with another goal and behind after that, to finish off the quarter. The Furies would be wondering WTF happened.

The unbeaten Dragons headed to the Snow Dome for their first real test of S21, against last seasons runners up Mt Buller Demons. With unconvincing wins against the lowly Bandits and Hawks, It could have been expected that this would be a cracking game, however it fizzled into a 40 point Demonolition as rookie SincMagic announced himself to the league with a 7 goal haul.
The Demons got away to a flying start, with 4 goals in the opening term, and ruckman deaneus giving on-ballers Van_Dyke and cooney an armchair ride. In contrast, the Dragons were distracted by snow bunnies and could only manage three rushed behinds for the term as they trailed by 24 points when they turned around.
Andonis1997 finally got the Dragons underway in the early part of the second, but was quickly nullified by the prolific Van_Dyke, and the Demons had all the answers for the determined Dragons as they constantly replied to Dragon goals and kicked 6 goals to five for the quarter to take a 27 point lead to the long break. brucetiki had 3 goals to halftime for the Demons.
After half-time, it could be expected that the Dragons would come out breathing fire, but the Demons, through SincMagic, cooney and the inaccurate Okeydoke7 kicked 3 of the first 4, to kick it out to 40 points at 3/4 time. cooney and DemonCat/Van_Power were prominent in this term.
And the final term saw the Demons do the minimum required to hold the disappointing Dragons at bay. 3 final term goals brought SincMagic's total to 7, Smartys Power and Logger kept the Dragons key forwards iBeng and Ljp86 relatively quiet and young gun princy_99 dominated the Dragons reigning B&F chefmeister.
The win takes the Demons to fourth on the ladder, a mere 0.08% behind their conquered foes. The main talking point will be the old bull vs the young bull. Young SincMagic, with 7.5 from the forward pocket, has put in a strong bid both in performance and in posting to usurp league veteran and self-anointed ALF favourite Okeydoke7 from the full forward position for the Demons. Fireworks could ensue. Watch this space.

ROUND 3: LAS VEGAS BEARS vs GEELONG WOLVES
Pre-Match: One of these clubs is a SFA powerhouse, with gun posters. One of these sides had numerous players walk out, surrounded by controversy. Both sides had short lived finals campaigns, though one of them were lucky to make it there. The Bears and Wolves are different sides with different posters. It resulted in a 620 post match thread, which came close to being the most active of the week. As MOTR, this was expected to be a big game.

1st Quarter:
KangaFan35 has an interesting start to the game, taken off within the first minute. Some 4 minutes later, SM opened the books for his side. Two more wolves goals followed, with a brahj behind in between. It took some time for another goal, but it came in the form of manboob. Yello Mit kicked truly at about 22 minutes in, to put up his side's first goal. DREAM TEAM BUFF kicked another for the Wolves, just before the first break.

4th Quarter:
In a bad Bears start, they kicked two behinds, which would likely prove costly. DREAM TEAM BUFF managed a 7 point play, before DemonJim kicked a goal, with a Wolves behind following. The Bears has a 7 point play of their own, before Hatchy1992 kicked a captains goal, to put them 4 goals in front. Both sides had short lived finals campaigns, though one of them were lucky to make it there. The Bears and Wolves are different sides with different posters. It resulted in a 620 post match thread, which came close to being the most active of the week. As MOTR, this was expected to be a big game.

Two more wolves goals followed, with a brahj behind in between. It took some time for another goal, but it came in the form of manboob. Yello Mit kicked truly at about 22 minutes in, to put up his side's first goal. DREAM TEAM BUFF kicked another for the Wolves, just before the first break.

Early EKA favourite dennis Kermit loomed as a key player for the Bandits, while Captain footy_fumbler had been holding the Furies together.
The game started off brightly enough for the Furies, but bad missed chances to This Is Anfield and glamour full-forward Tarkyn_24 allowed Itsmyshow for the Bandits to open the goal tally, and after a quick reply from sausageroll, he kicked two more for the quarter to put his team on a course from which they never deviated throughout. Further goals to hard-working ruckman Bigeasy and Red Mist saw the Bandits storm to a 19 point quarter time lead.
Just as in the first, the second term opened with a pair of poor Furies misses, before _Cayz_ dobbed one. The Bandits were more efficient, with majors to Shermanator, dennis Kermit and HaroLad, but a late goal to Tarkyn_24 amidst a further flurry of 5 behinds limited the half time margin to 14 points. footy_fumbler was magnificent for his team in the first half, but his efforts were matched by dennis Kermit and HaroLad, and by a more even team performance from the Bandits.
The second half opened with a lightning goal from Gentlemen, and another quick one to Sterge saw the margin cut to 2 points - GAME ON! The Furies actually hit the lead for several minutes through _cayz_, and although Baghdad scrambled a brace of goals too regain composure, the surging Furies led at 3/4 time, and a tight finish loomed.
Enter Shermanator. Having started on the bench, he was thrust into the forward pocket early in the first term, and had provided little throughout the day. But he exploded with 6 final term goals to crush the Furies revival, as only their experienced trio of footy_fumbler, This Is Anfield and Tarkyn_24 resisted en route to a 49 point hiding, in a game that was much tighter than the final score indicated.
The result leaves the two teams at last and second-last on the ladder, but with percentage the only thing keeping them grounded. A run of good form for either team will lock in a finals position; however on todays showing, perhaps the Furies do not have the drive to go forward. The Bandits, on the other hand, piloted by impressive rookie dennis Kermit and guided by mainstays Itsmyshow and captain beez, and recruits HaroLad and Citroin, may have found a combination which can see Qeptember action.

ROUND 3: EAST SIDE HAWKS vs CONEY ISLAND WARRIORS
Pre-match:
Both sides failed to reach the finals in S20. But off-field the two sides were very different. The Warriors had the EKA medallist in Wooshette, who led the charge for the Warriors, though her side was still impressive off-field. I think all in the SFA are aware of what the Hawks were like off-field last season and then how they recruited in the off-season. As for S21, the wooden spooners of S20 has had a similar start with two losses, though the Warriors have won 1 from 2. The match thread was an active one, with 523 posts in the thread, one of the better ones

Our fearless leader, in The Filth Wizard got his side of to a good start, kicking a goal for his side, though Warriors rookie Chappyuk quickly kicking another one, though it was soon followed by 3 Hawks goals, with a 3 goal lead, with 2 behinds for the Hawks afterwards. The Warriors managed to kick another goal, putting them behind 14. The two sides nabbed a goal each, with 4 successive Hawks behinds following, with TFW kicking true again shortly after.

The Roys FFC (6) v West Coast Wonders (5) at Brunswick Junction Oval
In their round 2 matches, both the Roys and Wonder lost to the Furies and Swamprats, respectively.
For the Roys, they went down to the Furies by a small margin. The game was so close, it could have been anyone's game at the final siren.
And the Wonders were smashed by the Swamprats by over 100 points, and now hold a percentage that will be hard to fight back from.
Within the first 40 seconds on the game, haydo169 kicked the first goal of the game. This was a good start for the Wonders as they took a three goal to one lead by the 13 minute mark, only have to it back level a minute later. The quarter end with both sides even at 3 goals one.
The Roys and Wonders went goal for goal in he second quarter, but the Roys inaccuracy during the middle cost them a a good lead going into the second half
In the third quarter, the Wonders and Roys continues to share the goals in what would help set up an nail biting fourth quarter. There was only a point the difference at this stage and it was up to however had the balls to step up in the final quarter and win this for their side.
This is where the Wonders stepped up their game and by the ninth minute of the quarter they were up be five goals. But this is qooty and anything is possible in this game. It took the Roys time, but now with one and a half minute left on the clock they were only a straight kick behind the Wonders. With 30 seconds to go in the game, Slax had the in the Centre and went looking for a lead, only to be caught searching for too long by dogs105 .
In what proved to be one of the best games of the round, the Roys could not complete a nice mini comeback to take the win.

Sin City Swamprats (3) v Gold City Royals (7) at Underground Stadium
The Swamprats come into this game off the 103 point win over the Wonders the previous week; while the Royals come off a nail biting win over the Bears.
Both teams will be looking for their second win of the season as they will try to gain a top four position.
In the first quarter, the Royals got off to an early start at they hit five goal to two lead at the twenty minute mark. The Royals where able to peg one back late in the quarter to have the game at a two goal difference at quarter time
The lead grew out to five goals at the end of the half, thanks to two goals from ShanDog . The Swamprats kept trying to find a way back into the game only to be denied by the Royals forwards who would reply with a bigger goal of their own. This looked like it was going to a big blood bath of a game.
It was the same case in the third quarter as it was in the second, as soon as you could feel that a Swamprats goal may be the turning point in the game, all of a sudden the Royal have response. At the end of the quarter, the five goal lead remained.
The Royals stormed through in the final quarter taking the game by six goals in a game that you new was over by half time.
A disappointing day for the Swamprats as they were probably still drinking for their last win and could find the teamwork the win today. A big reality check for them

In the first quarter, the Royals got off to an early start at they hit five goal to two lead at the twenty minute mark. The Royals where able to peg one back late in the quarter to have the game at a two goal difference at quarter time
The lead grew out to five goals at the end of the half, thanks to two goals from ShanDog . The Swamprats kept trying to find a way back into the game only to be denied by the Royals forwards who would reply with a bigger goal of their own. This looked like it was going to a big blood bath of a game.
It was the same case in the third quarter as it was in the second, as soon as you could feel that a Swamprats goal may be the turning point in the game, all of a sudden the Royal have response. At the end of the quarter, the five goal lead remained.
The Royals stormed through in the final quarter taking the game by six goals in a game that you new was over by half time.
A disappointing day for the Swamprats as they were probably still drinking for their last win and could find the teamwork the win today. A big reality check for them

The Coney Island Warriors hosted the hungover Furies at a muddy Van Cortland Park, with both teams coming off heavy losses the previous week. The Warriors had lost to the previously winless Hawks by 33 points, and the Furies went down to the Bandits by 49 points to fall to last on the ladder.
The Furies started brightly enough with the first 2 goals to Tarkyn_24 and Helen Wheels. Unfortunately, this was to be their last scores for the entire first half, as the Warriors firstly responded through Reginald Perrin and Frankston Rover, and then took control through further goals to their star ruckwoman Wooshette and Reginald Perrin's second, and they led by 14 points at quarter time with all momentum going their way.
Reginald Perrin then kicked another 2 goals in the second term, as the Furies stagnated. Les Norton and Freofalcon also put majors through for the Warriors, whose tight defence led by BigJoeD_ and Packedlunch kept the reigning premiers scoreless for the term. Coney Island held a solid 40 point lead at the long break.
The match degenerated in the third term as the muddy conditions began to take their toll on the teams. The Furies kicked a quick early goal to give their supporters some hope of a comeback, but this was their last goal of the quarter. Wooshette kicked the Warriors only goal of the term in the 10th minute, and the teams traded a series of behinds as defence and mud decimated the spectacle.
The game only slightly improved in the final term; at least the accuracy of both teams improved. The Warriors kicked 3 goals, with Reginald Perrin booting two to take his haul to 6, to the Furies 2, and ran out comfortable winners by 50 points.
The game was a low-quality spectaclre, possibly due to the conditions, but the Furies need to be concerned. They do not look to be the same team without Wacky Tiger, and remain in last spot with one win. The Warriors second win takes them into the top 8, but their opposition in two of their games has been woeful.

The 4th-placed Mt Buller Demons travelled from the snow to Arctic Park to play the 10th ranked East Side Hawks, Both teams were coming off strong wins, with the Hawks registering their first win by 33 points over the Warriors, and the Demons continuing their strong start to the season by beating the Dragons by 40 points. Conditions were fine and warm, and signs pointed to a spiteful encounter between Okeydoke7 and his former team.
An early goal to Mr Eagle got the Hawks off to a bright start, and they dominated the Demons in defence, before Karnezis_13 and Biggie kicked them further clear halfway through the term. The Demons hit back, with rookie SincMagic bagging the last 2 goals of the term to go in only 5 points down.
With momentum switched, the Mt Buller team went on a goal-scoring frenzy to begin the second quarter. Six goals to individual players shocked the Hawks and built a 33 point lead, and whilst they stabilised and hit back with 3 of their own, the Demons still went to half-time trailing by 32 points after Okeydoke78 and Bosley booted late Demon goals.
The Hawks came out flying at the start of the second half, with 3 early goals and 2 late goals split by Eth's sole Demons goal for the quarter at the 20 minute mark. Brown Bottle and Doctor Colossus were especially influential in this term, as the Hawks cut the 3/4 time margin to 8 points.
Early in the last term, it appeared that the Hawks had spent all their tickets getting back into the game, as the Demons scored the first 8 points and dominated possession through princy_99 and DemonCat/Van_Power. Van_Dyke also flashed into the game with glimpses of magic, and it seemed that the Demons were home. But the Hawks dug deep, and 4 goals, to Gilbert_Hodge (2), Doctor Colossus and Larrikin saw them take a shock 9 point win as the Demons completely stopped.
The result sees the Demons drop out of the top 4, and the Hawks quietly slip into the top 8. Next week, the Demons paly the Warriors and the Hawks play the Bears in games that will define all four teams' seasons

A game that promised so much for the Bandits didn't deliver. They were still somewhat in the game at 1/2 time, but quite simply, you can't give up 8 goals in a quarter. The Wonders will be estatic, a good team effort right from the first bounce
Right from the first bounce you could sense the Wonders were playing better, with at one stage in the first having a lead of 14, with the Bandits yet to trouble the scorers, thanks to a clarkem and Golumless goaling, but Citroin managed to put one up shortly after. The Wonders then kicked two successive behinds, before the controversial ex Wonder HaroLad put his side 4 points behind the Wonders. A Wonders goal however came shortly after. The Bandits would have been kicking themselves, as they kicked 3 successive behinds, before LicoriceAllsorts put his 2nd on the board. In the story of the game, itsmyshow kicked two behinds, before managing to snag a 6 pointer.
And thanks to everyone's favourite glitch, the Bandits actually hit the lead at one point, before the Wonders quickly responded. Another goal for the 5 time premiers followed, before sometime later TwentyNine managed a 7 point play, To put his side 18 points up. Sometime followed before the Bandits kicked another one, which was cancelled out straight after.Two Bandits behinds followed.
Which turned into 3 with the the sim again up to shenanigans. EKA favourite dennis kermit kicked a goal, but the Wonders followed with another one. The Wonders registered a minor score, which was soon followed by a goal. This was followed by an unanswered 4 consecutive goal stretch, before the Bandits kicked two behinds. Another three straight Wonders goals followed, to put them up by some 56 points.
Wonders captain SSwans2011 kicked a goal, before the Bandits pegged one back.The Wonders quickly slammed on 3.1, before the Bandits yet again were inaccurate; another behind. 7 points went the Wonders way before itsmyshow yet again missed, but teammate iDon made up for that, to finish the game off, Wonders captain Golumless kicked a goal for his side.
