if & only if they are found guilty & players get banned etc

Should they lose to right to play on such a special day in Australia when we honor the Brave men & women that protect our country

is this AFL doing the right thing?

what right do they have to play on such a big day having wrecked not only their clubs name but the AFL also?

IMO they should lose it if they are found guilty not only does it send a message we don't want cheats in our game but they don't deserve to play on the day.
plus i dont want the whole country cheering on Collingwood that's just wrong :)

It would be a total fiasco.
It's time the 2 grand final teams played off on Anzac Day

They should definitely lose ANZAC privileges.

Grand Final replay will attract a massive crowd regardless, so it's better to have 2 separate events rather than merge it into 1 event.

Richmond vs Collingwood would make a great new traditional ANZAC day game. Essendon still have Dreamtime at the 'G and Richmond are similar (or better) in terms of local VIC support, so Richmond for Essendon is the most "like for like" swap possible for an ANZAC day swap.

Norf will try and play the equality card but fact is Collingwood and Richmond are the 2 biggest supported clubs in Victoria.

Not a great fan of any club having a stranglehold on any blockbuster fixture to be honest, and that includes the season opener and the Dreamtime game (as well as Anzac Day).

I agree with the suggestion that the GF finalists should face off on Anzac Day - plenty of exposed form and time to be cherry ripe by then.

The season opener is a bit more tricky - but perhaps the losing prelim finalists deserve a shot at that.

The Dreamtime game is a no brainer for me - the two teams with the most indigenous players on their lists from the last season should get the gig (resolve ties on total numbers of games played).

I'm not sure anyone really cares about Queen's Birthday fixture - maybe that should be a ballot between traditional rivals.

Nope, they along with the Pies built it up and deserve to keep it.
And Bumbers tarnished it with their supplement scandal and furthermore dragged the game into disrepute with their poor governance...
Throw in a Coach that is reviled outside of Bumber KOOLAID drinkers...
A Club held in low esteem by the other AFL clubs...
The only thing these cheats deserve is what ASADA gives them...

Well what other clubs had the opportunity to have a stand alone Anzac Day fixture?
I know back in the 70s we had 90,000 when we played Carlton on an Anzac Day.
Regardless of all that, the day is a celebration to honour and respect courage and sacrifice. Hardly what drug cheats epitomise. It totally defeats the whole concept.
It should be a day for all clubs to have the opportunity to play in, not one hand picked for cash.

So what, the club still built the game up to be what it is. Any clubs that have done the hard work to build up games that are events like ANZAC Day(Collingwood/Essendon), Queens Birthday(Melbourne/Collingwood), Easter Monday(Geelong/Hawthorn) & Opening Game(Carlton/Us) deserve to keep the games regardless of the off field crap or in some cases on field results that suggest they lose such games.Remember a few years ago when we were getting flogged in the opening game everyone wanted the game taken of us because they felt we weren't worthy of keeping it and yet this year as soon as the game was taken off of us and Carlton and the opening was a fizzer everyone wanted us and Carlton back in our rightful spot again.

What Essendon have done is a disgrace and they have been punished for it already missing finals in 2013 losing draft picks and being heavily fined, now the players are likely to get hammered as well, you don't keep on punishing someone for having done something wrong time and again just because you don't like them.

Leaving the Essendon punishment angle to one side, my view is that no club should 'own' a landmark fixture.
The clubs that have 'set up' these blockbusters have already profited from them.
It's time to share the spotlight with those who have earned the right to be there IMO.
BTW, you didn't refer to the Dreamtime game.
Do you have a different view about that one?
Pretty embarassing for us to rock up with just one indigenous player each year when there are teams with many more.

I actually agree with EAD. Bombers and Pies have made the game what it is. This thread reeks of hysteria. Because one or a group of people in the heirachy went down a doping program doesn't mean the history of the club is tarnished. What have the antics of 2012 got to do with the game that was played in say 2002?
We need this crap to be over. It's Oct and we're still talking about it.

1. What "hard work" have they done exactly? Promoted a stand alone game. Hardly "hard work" when the AFL is doing the promoting and it's the only game on in town.
2. Big difference between being inept but "honest" and still able to draw large crowds.
3. They've been punished for "governance" only. They still to face the beak for drug cheating.

So lets give up the opening game of the season and let other clubs have a crack at it.

By the way we didn't have the opening game this year. So that puts a hole in that argument.
