An interesting little tid bit form todays Age story about the woes at CH10

This is where Foxtel and Discovery could help accelerate Ten's turnaround. Foxtel, Australia's most profitable media company, could help Ten acquire the rights of the Australian Football League.

Seven, Foxtel/Fox Sports and Telstra are the current AFL rights-holders in the five-year, $1.25 billion deal. But the league is set to begin talks soon for a new contract, starting in 2017. Bidding is expected to start at $1.5 billion but analysts have not ruled out the deal hitting $2 billion.

The amount the AFL gets will be dependant on how many realistic bidders there are. If 7, 9 and 10 go hard to win the rights then AFL will get a decent increase, however, the more money demanded, the more they have to do to recover the costs. As bad as advertising is in games now, it can get a whole lot worse.
