The 'he should have won' thread.....

A thread for that guy who should have won <insert award here> but didn't.

Give us your thoughts on those obvious ones that missed out.

For me - Brendon Goddarrd should have won the Norm Smith Medal in the 2010 drawn Grand Final.

IMO that was the best GF performance by any individual of the past 10 years. No disrespect to Lenny who played well but Goddard 'should have won'.

Fremantle 2013 Grand Final.... :(

1. That guy insinuates individual award. There's a million stories of poor kicking, umpiring etc for teams
2. Despite kicking poorly, Freo weren't favoured to win and were still outplayed on the day. They didn't give themselves the best chance to win with their kicking, but it's a long bow to draw to say they should have won.

Goddard not winning the norm smith in 2010 was a disgrace. It's about the best individual game of football I've seen from anyone at AFL level. It's ruined his career post 2010 a bit since expectations became huge, especially in 2011.

If St.Kilda didn't have Lenny Hayes in the first half we weren't even in the game.
People concentrate on highlights. Who kicked it to Goddard for his screamer? Who kicked a long bomb outside 50 to give us the momentum back.
Goddard played extremely well, as did Lenny. Saying Goddard not winning it is 'a disgrace' is pathetic.

1993 Norm Smith Medal.

Gary O'Donnell topped the possession count that day. Was awesome.

They gave it to Longy for his dynamic play.

1989 Brownlow Medal.

Tim Watson won just about every football media that award that year. Was the best player in the competition by some distance. How Couchy won the Brownlow still scratches everyone's heads.

Andrew McLeod, after taking out the Leigh Matthews Trophy as the Player's MVP and the Malcolm Blight medal as the Crows B&F, he should have made it a trifecta with the 2001 Brownlow Medal.

21 votes at the end of round 19, 1 vote ahead of eventual winner Jason Akermanis.

R20: Leading possession getter on the ground in a 10 goal win over North Melbourne, 35 touches, 1 goal, 0 votes
R22: Clear best on ground with 37 touches, 1 goal in a 5 goal loss to Fremantle, 0 votes

Akermanis picked up 3 votes in Brisbane's 6 goal win over Geelong in R21 and pulled 2 votes clear, the rest is history.

Dale Thomas should have won the Norm Smith in the one of the grandfinals.
