Prediction The Ridiculous, Far-Too-Early 2018 Predictions Thread

Club slowly slips backwards as the realisation of the impact of Paul Roos' steadying hand is realised.

Mahoney is out of his depth. You can see it in his eyes. Roos wrote the media naravite and this muppet just followed the cues. Now he's on his own.
I think our side is too good for this to happen, even if the backroom is lacking a little.

If we (miraculously) win the premiership we won’t get full enjoyment from it, because the media narrative will be that the afl are rigging the competition in favour of long suffering Victorian clubs. Especially if we finish outside the top 4 and manage a blessed run with the umpires.
If that was to happen I think everyone else's reactions would be the least of my concerns.

Don't know how you're arriving at this conclusion. Only thing I can think of is that you're bitter about the Jack Watts trade and think that our hardball tactics with a guy that operates at 60% effort is a bit much.
Not the thread for it
Seriously, you can't please some Melbourne supporters. 5 years ago we were too soft and couldn't win a hard ball, had no structure, no leadership other than Jones, and no heart. Fast forward to the end of 2017 and the club has said we've had enough, Goodwin, Mahoney and Jones have roasted Watts publicly and forced one of the old guard out of the club for a pisspoor 2017 after a great 2016.

I think some supporters just want us to fail, and have got no idea what it's like to actually start making decisions for the better. For the first time in a long time this club has put together a list, game plan, and attitude that can challenge for finals and beyond.

The attitude of some people here is exactly what drove us into the mire under Bailey and Neeld. No change, no effort. Just like a hamster in a cage. We've finally started to drop our balls. I couldn't give a **** how Goodwin presents to the media, he is there to make hard calls to move our club forward. 2017 was a great step forward. Look no further than our ladder trajectory since Roos took over.

Get real. We are playing finals in 2018 and I am glad it's without Jack 'Pea heart' Watts.
Not the thread for it.

Its a predictions thread.
We are playing finals in 2018
Yep, the thread for it. About time.

Optimistic:
- Trac goes up another level
- Salem, Stretch and Brayshaw play regularly, do all the delivering inside 50 and straighten us up a lot
- Tyson plays purely inside, plays to his strengths
- Lever slots in like we expect
- Wiedeman becomes a regular, brings the intensity of the Adelaide game more often than not

Melbourne Supporter:
- Oliver gets figured out
- 2016 the outlier year for Gawn
- We still get monstered by bigs like Brown and Daniher
- Tmac's straight set shots a swingman fluke
- Too many high-half forward inside mids revolving door - no hard running good users for another year

Melksham lotsa goals.
Tmac lotsa goals.
Hogan lotsa drama.
Clarry lotsa handballs; lotsa Brownlow votes.
Jones lotsa heart.
Hunt lotsa fast running. One torp - not a goal.
Angus zero concussions, lotsa classy s**t.
Track lotsa graceful bulldozing and cheeky tongue poke celebrations.
Lewis lotsa not much hair.
Viney lotsa heart; lotsa Brownlow votes.
Jetta lotsa rock solid wickedness.
Omac lotsa frustration; continued improvement.
Frost lotsa ground covered with each stride, hopefully lotsa strides, hopefully a few effective kicks too.
ANB lotsa pies.
Garlett lotsa goals.
Gawn lotsa that’s 2016 form, pls.
Tyson lotsa grunt work and contested ball, couple of scrubbed kicks, lotsa over the top criticism.
Vince lotsa footy show appearances and games for Casey, lotsa love still though.
Harmes lotsa tooth, so much tooth.
Hannan lotsa brilliant crumbing goals.

Ergh, I really got myself into something I can’t finish here...

Oh well, might come back later.

Demons lotsa premierships - one!!!!!!!!!

Brayshaw in an out of the team all season again. Can't put my finger on it but instinct says he will struggle to 100 odd games before retirement.

His partner Trac will be a superstar by the end of the year. Some of his clearance work and long goal efforts were as good as you will see and he has that jump on my back I'll win this game attitude the best have.

Alex Neal Bullen will finish top 5 in the BNF next year, I loved his ability to find space and link the midfield to the forwards. I see a seriously intelligent footballer ready to explode.

1. Hogan kicks 50
2. Brayshaw wins B&F
3. Gawn has another average year
4. Bernie Vince retires mid year
5. We finish 5th and make a semi vs Adelaide or Sydney
6. Oliver is top 3 in Brownlow
7. Viney is AA captain
8. T Mac plays lots of time in the ruck & forward
9. Harmes has a top 5 finish in our B&F
10. We beat North
Don't be ridiculous

Oliver will have a 60/40 handball, kicking % , Gawn will return to AA ruckman, Hogan will kick 65 goals and Freemantle supporters will have more photos of him in freo gear by Christmas so the "move" will be on in 2018. Harley Balic consolidates a position in the AFL side, T Mac will wait until the finals are finished with his contract talks, we end up 6th, then resign. Club tempted with an option to trade a player and get into the first round early pick of the draft. Someone with thier own thread [s all put together] has an average year at Port and the world continues as is and has always done.

1) Harmes has an overall bog average year but still makes another appearance in the 20/3 club
2) Gawn returns to form and is in AA contention
3) Oliver makes it into AA
4) We finally break the North hoodoo (but not before coming dangerously close to losing the game)
5) Balic and Maynard each play 10 or more games
6) Vince retires
7) JKH only plays 1 to 3 games and is delisted at years end
8) AVB plays a handful of games but overall can't get his body right
9) Watts plays a handful of good games but is otherwise merely OK or average
10) Petracca has the consistent breakout year we've all been waiting for
11) Tyson has another year at approximately the same level of output and skill. Half the board defend him, the other half want him traded. Becomes the new Jack Watts because of it.
12) We play finals

1. Weed plays no more than 10 games
2. Hogan has a breakout season, kicking 60 and having 25 goal assists while playing more up the ground at times.
3. Corey Maynard, Joel Smith are best 22 at the end of the season.
4. Petracca polls 15+ Brownlow votes
5. Watts has a few performances which result in us receiving intense scrutiny but ultimately has another 30 goal, 10 goal assist season for a Port side that doesn't make top 4.
6. We make the Preliminary Finals but fall short against the eventual premiers.

I don't know what he will do in front of goals next year, but if we play him up the ground more then I could see Hogan having a season where he averages around 20 touches and 10 marks a game. Just giving us an outlet from defence and a target through CHF.

Daniher kicked 60 at CHF and he can't even kick for goal within 40m.

Hogan might not have Daniher's ability to kick them from 50-60 out but even Tex kicked 55+ this year. And he was playing mostly as a roaming CHF.

Tex has a much bigger boot than Jesse and Daniher kicked at 62% this year which is only 2% below Jesses career accuracy.

I think Hogan will be a star player but he will never be a huge goal kicker as he is so good up the ground, Weideman is more likely to push that mark if he keeps developing.

Is good in a 1 on 1, but my god he can't dance for the camera.

As the old saying goes, press conferences win premierships.
