Interesting... I don't mind Rampe going into the middle, doesn't hurt to have another big bodied midfielder in there, maybe it was a tactic in the last quarter as the Essendon mids were tiring? The problem is we need Tippett in the ruck as well as in the forward line!

okay so Rampe no centre clearances disproved my theory, back to the drawing board

If only we had Ryder in there...

Rampe despite not getting a clearance could've been enough for Essendon to be confused and put a better player on him to free up Kennedy?

The heat map for the game is pretty crazy. With a 65-35 defensive half-offensive half split, you'd expect us to have lost by a big margin. For comparison's sake, the Lions who lost by 82 points had a 61-39 split, Carlton lost by 69 points had a 59-41 split, Geelong in their round 1 lost to Hawthorn had a 62-38 split.

The ability of our team to soak up that amount of pressure for all 4 quarters, especially at a loud away ground is unbelievable.

You got the afl thing for free or forking out for the extras
They were handing out free passes for the season if you managed fill a complete AFL Fantasy League in the pre season.

The only other Swans game I can recall in recent years which similarly confounded the statisticians was this one. Which makes Saturday's result even more remarkable given the margin of victory.

WOW. Where did you get this data from? Does it acknowledge which team won the clearance?

I recorded it from the replay. I also recorded the result but it didn't correlate with the official stats so I left it out

Eh, you're stats are probably more accurate. Having seen the stats collection at other sports, you'd be surprised how badly wrong 'offical' stats can be.

I'm kinda obsessed by these heat maps. McVeigh's heat map has the most coverage of any Swan by some margin. Not bad for a bloke who apparently needed two weeks in the reserves before he should be allowed back in the team.

IMO, he was one of the big reasons why we won last week. Could've used him in R1 a lot
