Getting in early.

Looking at our current squad, where do you see the obvious needs?

3 issues I see at this stage.

Trade for an A grade ruckman

Draft ultra fast natural footballers who play in the midfield

Don't trade with North Melbourne

:thumbsu:

Seriously, you've given up on all our rucks right now?

Seriously, you've given up on all our rucks right now?

Renouf - yes

Lobbe - **** he has to do a lot right in 2013

Redden - I continue to believe he'll be a class ruckman

I actually am disappointed with Renouf so far and wonder what the hell they were thinking giving him Gav's number ... should have waited for Wingard. But i'm super impressed and excited with Redden and think he is going to be great. :thumbsu:

Why give up on Renouf? He has shown just as much if not more than Jolly, Maric, Jamar, blah, blah at the same point. He's was injured at times last year but honestly if he can get fit he can become a more than serviceable ruckman. If come end of next year the trio of Lobbe/Redden/Renouf hasn't come on at all then sure look and see what is out there. But fully fit I can see Renouf having a Maric type turnaround.

I also don't believe in drafting ultra fast players. If a player is fast and good then sure lets draft them but I would take best player over fast player any day of the week. I think so much of what we do at the end of this year will depend where we finish. Chances are we will get a pick in the 5-10 range again... Take best available.

inb4 Jacobs wants to come back to Port Adelaide, and we pick him with pick 45.

I have little to no knowledge of the 2013 draft prospects but thought this one was interesting.

#12 Adelaide - Dwayne Wilson (SA – Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 17/01/1995
Recruited from: Sturt
Style: Lewis Jetta
Player comparison:
Range: 10-25
Profile: Wilson is a very damaging outside player who you just want the ball in the hands of. Has some genuine linebreaking pace but then also has the damaging footskills to go with it. Has some penetration on his kick and on a wing any time he gets forward of centre he loves a goal and generally hits the scoreboard really doing some damage. He will need to get stronger and start winning his own ball more but plenty to like.

Renouf is a good tap ruckman. Probably our best. He offer absolutely nothing around the ground though

Lobbe is a useless tap ruckman. But ok around the ground

Redden is somewhere in between imo.

Quick lockdown defender (unless Pfeiffer, Hoskin, Colquhoun etc. stands up and makes that position his own this year), KPF's and speedy mids who can kick pls

Sam C only turned 18 today, I'd be happy if he plays 5 game let alone locking a spot, he isn't physically ready

We passed up the best ever chance to draft an A Grade ruck. Our theory must be to trade for one when our window is open, if we need to. Either way not a 2013 need.

We need pace and skill. For marketing purposes Aish would be a dream get. Wilson sounds great but I don't know if he's a top 8 pick. Did I mention pace?

Slim pickings at #18, but I guess we'll be hoping someone slips like Grundy this year.

Random thought I just had after a conversation on the main board. If Alan Didak has another injury affected year and Collingwood are willing to send him somewhere cheaply, would we consider him? He'll be 30 at the end of next year, but I think after (probably) 6 years out of the finals, after a year of adjustment to Hinkley's gameplan and the list turnover, and with the need to bring fans into Adelaide Oval, 2014 is the year that we stop worrying about age and start worrying about winning games and getting people through the gates. Didak is an ex Port Magpie who would make us a better side, even if only as a sub, and people would come in droves to watch him and Jurrah running around in the same forward line.

If we could get him cheapish... (Free Agent???)

Would depend how Gray, Monfries, Stewart, Young and the likes come together this year.

For mine Didaks best is behind him and he has had his chance to come home. Having said that have always been a big fan of his and his had no luck with injuries.

Pretty sure we wont be giving up our first pick for Alan Didak.

Certainly hope not, but if we could get him at a Monfries-type price or as a free agent then I think it's worth looking at. He'd probably only have a couple of years left in him, but 2014 is a super important year for the club and I think it's worth the investment.

Hasn't Didak said he will retire at the end of 2013 season? He said he was going to go to the next soccer world cup in Brazil 2014.

I feel Butcher will produce for PAFC and become a strong target up forward. That said, I thought Westhoff was going to be a star after dominating Glass, 3 or 4 years ago, but has done nothing since.
