Roast Umpires

It's probably because your team is fully of sniping, cheating dogs.

Free kick parity is a notion held on to by fairly simple minds, with little understanding of the sport.

Sniping, cheating dogs....
Name one, flog.
Selwood. Revels publicly in his cheating
Johnson. Kicks a player in the head, gets a free kick. Grabs a player by the throat, then dives to the ground to get a free kick.
Bartel. Dives head first to get a free kick.

Where are the sniping, cheating dogs on our side? That's right, there aren't any.
Geelong are a disgrace. They are destroying football with their cheating. And according to many Hawthorn fans, they have been doing it for a while. I've never believed them until now.

Coming on to our board talking s**t gets a ban for *******s. Take a hike

and there's that myth again...geelong are far worse dirty sniping ducking dogs than any other team. When you've enjoyed your suspension please come back and post any links you can find to Crowley punching or elbowing anyone.

Do the Geelong campaigners get commission for every time they dive and draw a free kick? Selwood, Mackie, Bartel, Christensen, don't get me started on that rotten, filthy ******* w***er Stevie J. Kicks Neale in the head and drags Sutty by the neck and somehow gets a free for both. The last one eventuated in a Mackie goal where Mackie celebrated like a pork chop.

We did bloody ******* well to lose by only a kick after the siren after being cheated the entire game. Lead by inspirational Barlow and Fyfe - their leadership is helping me get through this loss. A very heartbreaking game.

Would love the play the Cats again, most likely in a PF.

So let me get this straight. Stevie J kicks Lachie Neale in the head and gets a free kick for it?

It was a vicious headbutt by Neale right on the point of Johnson's foot.

The way Sutcliffe's neck went bezerk on Johnson's hands was also a disgrace. Clearly a free to Johnson there too.

And don't get me started on Suban's consecutive headbutts on Varcoe's fists. Gee we lack discipline.

A noble sentiment, and one that I'm proud our coach and team adopt.

But we're not them and as much as might people scoff, our voice actually does get heard through journos who trawl these boards looking for stories. It's no coincidence that the all the footy shows focus on the same stuff the fans are are already talking about.

The media used to drive social discussion, but now social discussion drives the media.

That may or may not be true but if so, it may explain the sudden flurry of pro-umpiring stores coming from journos with strong links to AFL House.

Last night's effort at Skilled was such an obvious stitch up, to follow up the St Kilda and Carlton games, yet some of those journos are now writing and tweeting that Geelong got a hard time from the umpires last night and Rohan Connolly has suddenly tweeted disdain for those alleging improper conduct by the umpires.

But yeah, its probably just coincidence that all these stories start up just as the shafting of Freo hits new highs.

Wow! Hypocrisy level 1000.

The only sniping in the game last night was by the well known serial offenders, Johnson, Varcoe, selwood etc Same goes for diving.

You be really s*****g yourselves facing us. Home ground, crooked umpires, dirty tactics all night and only got home by two points. Imagine how bad your loss would have been in a fairly umpired game. I'm going to laugh when the boots on the other foot in a few weeks

Until this season I've always been nice towards umpires. For the record, after I became too old to play with the boys I occasionally boundary & goal umpired for my team. I'm also a qualified netball ump & spent 2 years reffing roller derby.

Despite what last night showed, you know what your personal free/penalty differential to a side is. If you go into a game unbiased, there is no way a game can turn out like it did last night. Crowley's almost becoming a liability to our side now because umpires have this preconceived notion that he's a dirty player. Every team likes to rattle on about Crowls' dirty tactics, yet every team is trying to build a tagger like him because he's so effective at what he does.

So many calls that Geelong got last night simply weren't there. Yet there was so much going on & off the ball, like Geelong players targetting Fyfe's injured shoulder, Pav getting slung out of contests, Sandi getting his arms chopped, Lachie getting kicked in the fn head, and the umpires just turn a blind eye to any dirty play towards Freo players

I don't understand how the AFL can stand there & not say something to the umps about the pathetic, biased, game changing umpiring that we've been getting. Geelong's 25 free kicks in the first half was the most any team's gotten this season by 9. NINE. We didn't even get 9 free kicks in that WB game. And most of Geelong's frees weren't even there, or were called to the wrong team.

Big props to our boys though that are playing through this week in week out & keeping their heads up & still fighting out the game. We almost won last night, and when the umpires put the whistles away that 4th quarter (I'm assuming someone pointed out to them the free kicks issue), we showed we were the better team on the night.

It's pretty funny when Geelong supporters accuse Freo supporters of having blinkers on, as if the same thing just magically doesn't apply to them.

It doesn't take much reading of other teams' boards to see what the perception of the umpiring from a neutral perspective was last night.

The tragedy is that if a similar free kick count happened to a collingwood or hawthorn it would be discussed on every footy show and radio program. Seeing as it was us who suffered it will probably be seen as another brilliant display from the cats.

Yeah, I'm hoping to score a gig as a commentator on channel 7 and have been practicing my lines. "this great Geelong team keep finding a way to win". Am I doing it right?

It was so obvious in that first quarter that the umpires got caught up in the media build up to the game and thought bad things were going to happen that they just panicked and pulled out some weird free kicks for both sides.

And then in the second quarter they just started guessing that if a cats player was on the ground, we must have done something.

Ducking Frees given to Geelong in the first quarter: (time is remaining in quarter)
19.18 Duncan ducked
12.38 Bartel ducked
6.13 Selwood high free kick, when no high contact from Barlow
5.24 Johnson ducked

Unusual 50/50s paid against Freo in the first quarter
16.05 illegal disposal against Pav
15.39 holding the ball against Suban, but Mackie was over the ball
11.46 Johnson dived to get push in the back against Crowley
8.21 Johnson kicks Neale in the head, gets free kick
7.22 Hawkins wrestles McPharlin, contacts his head then appeals for a free and gets it.
2.45 Selwood gets free kick for tripping, but there was no contact to legs
0.54 Blicavs gets free kick against Clarke for holding the arm.

50/50s or clear frees that weren't paid to Freo in the first quarter
18.05 Fyfe dragged down after disposal by Guthrie. Play on
15.48 contact to Croziers head by Mackie. Play on
14.12 Loneragan incorrect disposal when under pressure by Pav. Play on.
14.02 Murdoch fends, turns under tackling pressure but is not paid holding the ball
6.19 Fyfe held by Stokes after disposing of the ball. Play on.
4.46 Barlow pushed in the back. Play on.
4.37 Clarke pushed in the back out of contest by Taylor. No free kick.
3.49 Johnson illegal disposal of ball when under pressure. Play on.
2.21 Pearce grabbed when not in possession. ball up.
0.38 contact to Subans head when he was on the ground. play on.

And that's only the first quarter.
I would hate for us to get frees for every incident in the third list, but we should have got some of them, and Geelong should not have got as many of the frees in the second list, and none of the ducking frees. I'm not including the shoulder shrugging high contact that Selwood specialises in.

Btw I'm finding this therapeutic. Don't judge me.

here's a thought, can anyone with the time and patience edit the pathetic frees that were given to geelong and then roll another segment with the unpaid frees to freo.

armed with this well edited footage it would be easy to campaign to have our whinging heard in a more public forum.
media producers are always looking for a story, and if we do their work and gather the evidence/footage I'm certain it'll gather some momentum .
in conjunction with a basic facebook and twitter campaign we could easily put it out into mainstream media.

Geelong had 17 free kicks more than us, their average disposals were 16.7.

They might as well have had an extra man on the field.
They did when Mackie went off for a concussion test. It was extremely good timing too. Very convenient.
