Welcome Welcome to Adelaide: Charlie Edwards - Pick 21

Do wonder if we would have taken Goad or Wilson. Wilson has a much higher floor.

Lot of work to do but good upside. Always a risk taking a midfield who hasn't shown great accumulation ability. He is definitely better the De Mattia though.
Goad I rekon . Cal usually on the money and has us linked to Goad.

Going to need to be next level, Dawson and Bont are 192/193cm, Curtin will need to be the first ever AFL quality mid above 195cm. Rucks that 'play like an extra mid' aren't included in the assessment.
Conor Nash at Hawthorn is 1.98cm.
Not exactly elite vs all AFL, but 3rd in Hawks best and fairest ain't too bad.
If Curtin is getting top 3 in future Crows best & fairests we'll all be pretty happy with him.

Yep relieved we didn’t take Demattia

Think Edwards has more scope for improvement

Welcome to the future

About to be more common place

Rucks are going to be 205-210cm eg Goad 208cm and still growing

Curtin will start in defence but his versatility is a massive weapon and will be used , the difference between him and some others with midfield projection is he’s actually done it at an elite level in big games ( vic metro / SA ) He’s done it well through movement , mobility and game sense more than size too

Not sure he makes a great key defender for big key forwards as he plays more like a hybrid player

A taller Jordan Dawson

Sounds like inflation.
We just need to get used to everything being more expensive and taller

amazing to hear. theres your normal run-of-the-mill cliched drivel when joining clubs but this is genuine authentic excitement. Regional Vic lad, hopefully a Crow for life.

And listening to Twomey podcast (BEFORE the draft) he stated Edwards was always our favoured second pick (with Goad possibly lasting to third) and questioned IF we did a pick swap with GWS would Edwards still be there.

Based on that it looks like we have nailed our preferred number one and two selections. The third a Hamish special but these first 2 both have elite potential IMO

what scope Jeff do you most see? Already athletically gifted it appears but are you talking composure, accumulation or other?

We are now at the stage where we dont really need to draft more mids quantity wise but absolutely nail one more ELITE mid (JHF, Butters type) to take us to the promised land.

Into the future (and knowing we have very solid B+ type mids Laird and Crouch, if needed, for another few years also)

Dawson
Pedlar
Rachele
Edwards
Soligo
Curtin - could be the best of the lot long term
Rankine (part) - most freakishly skillful player, or close to, in the league

Then solid next batch of Shoey, trajectory wise Dowling. Still have hope for Cook and Berry also and wouldnt completely surprise to see Milera and Jones have runs thru an expanded midfield over coming years.

Hamish and Reidy have now very nearly built a complete midfield.

On top of the best forward line in the comp (but need Fog/TT to now takeover from Tex) and a bargain basement defence which is also showing a number of projected elite players long term (Hinge, Max, Murray, Worrell, Milera getting back to his best, Curtin majority of first 2/3 years)

This is a bloody exciting squad for the next decade..
