Today in the Powertiser Josh Francou compared Ports off the ball sniping tactics in the showdown to Mark Riccuto's performance against Carlton in 2001. This is the game where Mark Riccuito made his sole object the ball and did not let any Carlton player get in the way in his persuit and played one of the best captains games for a long time (unlike the Port Power cpatain who is a crippled wreck of a former footballer). Yes Roo crashed and bashed through a few packs but he either had the ball in his hands or was trying to get it. I do not recall him driving any players heads into the ground or sniping them off the ball when they were no looking.

Francou has proved him self worthy of a journalistic role at the powertiser under the guidance of Rucci with this pathetic and unknowledgeable piece of trash journalism.

To me it was just an olive branch extended out to the power faithful after putting them offside last week.

I am assuming you are using the term "faithful" very very losely.

Good on Josh to talk down one of the greats of the game to make his sniping ex teams mates feel a bit better about themselves.

Actually, early in that game Roo bodyslams (no other word for it, he drills him) Whitnall off the ball among a couple of other physically imposing acts - and got away with it. Most importantly big Lance was a non-factor for the rest of the contest and it set the tone for the rest of the day in what was one of the club's alltime great wins.

Go back and watch the game, Josh is correct - and there's nothing wrong with that.

PS - I referred to it here not long ago: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8322095&postcount=16

Was great stuff.

It was brilliant.

Rates as my SECOND best Home and Away win with last weeks being number ONE. THIRD best was a game no one gave the Crows a chance of winning against the Mighty Hawthorn when I think Benny Hart kicked a sealer out at Waverly.

Was that Queen's Birthday Monday 1992? If so, I think it was Darel Hart who saved the day for us.

It must be there way of dealing with their better than expected start to 08 that tosser barry curtain has a humourous article in sportsbeat this week.

I reckon Big Red got a free for the incident and missed it from the goal square.

Which team were you supporting then?

Certainly Josh is not wrong here as Roo did hit whitnall hard and wasn't going for the ball.

Not sure there isn't something in the fact Josh is trying to build a bridge though but that's just human nature. Especially in the Adelaide media where to criticise is to put you on the outer - unless you are Rooch.

Actually picked up a copy of that at my sons footy club after training. He wrote about 2 lines on the game itself and another 6 or 8 lines on Crows supporters with knitting needles or something. Obsessed much.

Geez the Advertiser/Sunday Mail, or glorified toilet paper, whichever is less painful, really have a great nack for picking up the best ex-players to write in their papers. Its like they deliberately go out there to choose the most hopeless journalists, I use that word loosely, that they can. Meh, I'd love to see Rooch's take on they're performance tonight.

Is this the same Roo who was benched very early in a showdown for throwing a few wild punches although none connected at a port player, oh thats right his sole intention was going for the ball

I don't remember that but if true its better (and tougher)than picking off blokes off the ball who aren't looking. Roo went harder at the ball than Thomas or the thug (on and off the field) brogan ever have or will.
