A lot of posts about Carlton needing toughness around the ball and Adam Bentick should be playing to provide this.
Well Bryce Gibbs today laid 8 amazing tackles and Hadley was also good in this area. So I really don't think AB will play this year unless due to injury.

Gibbs, Hadley + Juddy + Murph (his centre square work has really improved this year) + Stevo are already 5 guys that can rotate through the centre square all with more pace and class than AB.

Add Carrots and even Eddie for the odd rotation at centre bounces and AB seems a long way down the pecking order.

I think it is just about over for AB at Carlton due to his lack of footspeed, flexabilty and our growing midfield depth.

He is not a bad depth player to have around but will the likes of Anderson and Browne also move past him ?

We smashed Collingwood around the clearances today. Hadley was sensational, as was Gibbs. All of our mids did a good job today. Murphy, Stevens, Judd and Simpson were great. Our best 4 quarter performance for some time.

My brother-in-law and I hi-fived at the end of each quarter fully expecting them to fall over in the next. But it didn't happen!

look mate i dont know what your talking about. sure, gibbs and hadley put on a show today, and yes, i was impressed, but to say 'no need for bentick' is stupid. last time i checked, jordan russel was in the squad. i dont know why it hasnt happened yet, but bentick could replace him, and carlton would benefit 500%. bentick was in the top few players last year in the tackles department.

Yup, much as I like him... he is getting passed over by the kids coming through the Ants and I think that we will keep him on the books, but only as a depth player.

I still think theres a place for Adam. Yeah sure we were great in the guts today but there still room in footy for some grunt and cannon fodder.

AB really isn't a bad player but he is going to find it tough this year.

We've all of a sudden uncovered more midfield options capable of playing an extractor role better than him. We have no need to bring him into the team as we've been excellent in the clearances particularly over the last 2 games.

He has a role to play but not ahead of the guys currently in the team. And those suggesting he should come in for Russell are silly. Very, very silly.

It's not just Hadley and Gibbs keeping Bentick out of the team. Chris Judd is the best clearence player in the league and when you put the three of them together (and throw Pfeffier and Murphy into the mix) Bentick just becomes irrelevent. He's a good player and should get a shot at another club but he's just too slow to get a shot in our midfield.

Agree there is always room for grunt but I think our team still needs to increase leg speed, not go backwards in this area. If quicker classier players are providing the grunt he will struggle to play.

Agree with most, just can't find a spot for him in the team with our added midfield depth this year.

The midfield was so much better today as far as pressure and tackling, Gibbs especially was fantastic.

While we're at, why not bring him in for Setanta?

Two words: team structure.

On topic, it will be tough for Bentick to crack a game - which is harsh, given his form in the seconds, but he's not a bad player to have as backup if (touch wood) one of midfielders is injured/suspended.

lol:thumbsu::)...Russell = our biggest passenger out there today:thumbsdown:..thoughts?

Not the point........players that play different roles.....AB I feel can only play in the guts.......I am still disappointed like most in JR but for some players its their 3rd year they break through, some others its 5 years and 60+ games and then something just clicks.

People forget that Michael Tuck, Doull, Dipper and many other stars took a long time to establish themselves at senior level.

Have to agree with that....Jordan Russell showed a bit today...made some
gaffes...but never gave up. He is only 21 or 22 so he might be a late bloomer. We can only hope. Bentick wasn't exactly a world beater when he was in the seniors.
Keep him hungry in the 2s along with Houla.

Dipper play 100 odd games in the magoos?

AB is going to struggle especially with Hadley in the side, AB kicking and lack of pace is going to hold him back. Like Blackwell whilst he is quicker and has better skills than AB will also struggle to get a game.

There's not much more Bentick can do to get a call up. If he doesn't get chances by the years end he will be changing clubs and will come back to haunt us.

He reminds me of Sam Mitchell when watching him play Bullants, obviously AFL is a huge step up but he has earnt a spot and it can't be good for the morale if he doesn't get selected again - especially if Jordan 'hack' Russell does.
