Alright, im heading down the road to Cooper's stadium tomorow night and wondering what are the numbers of our gun crows younguns so i can watch out for them. I went to the Norwood v Eagles game the other week and took me a few quarters to work out who Taylor Walker was :(

Thanks in advance :D

Aaron Kite's hair is a sightscreen, so wont miss him, but he's number 40.

TW is 24, wears a long sleeve guernsey so impossible to miss.

Dno about Jericho and I think Campbell is #6.

Maric, wouldnt have a clue, havent seen him for that long.

Jericho's 30 I am pretty sure, can't say he is my favourite player so I tend to not look :)

Isn't Maric 40 or some high number?

On the rivalry between the two teams, it as being debated this week (by th two clubs.....) that they symbolise the Anzac spirit better than other clubs, and should have the right to play on Anzac DAy every year, instead of the GF'ist's. What a load of shit. Neither have reached a GF since 99, so what gives them the nerve to claim they have a right to play on Australia's most important day. Here's a thought. Reach a GF, then you cn play on Anzac Day. Til then, go away.

I am a Norwood fan and I cringed when I heard that, it's Grand Finalists from the year before that simple. Maybe if the head people of Norwood want to be there they should employ a competent coach.

Its something I would expect from Port Adelaide, not Norwood though.

Grand Finallists is the only way, should be that way in the AFL also.

I agree the SANFL Anzac Day clash should be the Grand Finalists.

In the AFL though I think it should be Collingwood and someone. Essendon don't deserve it, look how bad their crowd was against Port last week - 28K. That means 60K of the Anzac Day crowd would have been Collingwood.

As they have the biggest supporter base in Melbourne by a mile they should get to play the highest ranking Melbourne team besides them. This will be controversial I know.

I think there should always be a night time Anzac Day game interstate from Vic as well - the highest ranked team against whoever, maybe their arch rival.

I remember Norwood winning by about 20 goals in early-mid 90s against Port and I don't think they were Grand Finalists the year before as Norwood didn't make too many in that era.

I think that was '97 because Anzac Day is my birthday and it was the best birthday ever for a Norwood supporter who grew hating the Magpies more an more with every premiership they won. I even remember saying that it was enough when we were 100 points up, my hands were sore from clapping. Pretty sure we won by 122 points.

Port beat Centrals in the '96 GF.

Honestly tho, media people treat Anzac Day as if it is a football holiday and that is the #1 priority on the day. That in itself is a major disrespect to the people we remember on that day. Is it really that important who plays? I don't think so. To me it's just another game, but it certainly isn't just another day outside of football.

Yep that sounds about right, I remember it fairly well.. purely for the final margin. I enjoyed that day ;)

I think it is important that we do have a big game on that day so as to not diminish it, but I would hate to see the SANFL have two teams set in stone. I went to my first one this year at Adelaide Oval and it really was a fantastic day.. the build up really makes you think a bit and you get goosebumps listening to the bugle. Pity the idiots at AO decided to crank the same crappy music they always do after the massive build up.

Our biggest ever loss. Terrible day. Still amazed we made the big one that year.

Was on my birthday. As you said...best birthday ever!

Ha ha. I remember we lost the 2nd semi final to Port. I was so angry. Angrier than "Angry Dad" on The Simpsons. Thought we had p*ssed it away again after dominating all year. After the Hodges Miracle goal in the Prelim of '96 I thought Norwood were forever cursed to live under the foot of the Magpie.

Fortunately it proved not to be. I think I enjoyed the 2 Premierships in a week almost as much as Aaron Keating :)

wait a minute...

for the last 12 years I've been told that Port Adelaide joined the AFL in 1996, played their first AFL game in 1997, and currently wear silver, white, black, and teal. This story seems to be the popular consensus - so let's take it as read.

In it's place, a club was formed called the Port Adelaide Magpies, who played at Ethelton for a while, but were welcomed back to Alberton some time later, despite the undertow of rivalry with the Port Adelaide Power, (PAFC)...mainly on matters surrounding social club revenue, cheer squads and the like.

So what is this "Port v Norwood rivalry" of which the media speak?

My understanding is that Norwood have a rivalry with the Port Adelaide that currently play in the AFL.

Furthermore, it is my understanding that the first time Norwood played the PAMs was in 1997....(or 1996 when the club in the SANFL was both PAMS and PAFC or something....)

So again - where is the traditional rivalry between these SANFL clubs? They've only being playing each other for 11 years....

Now this is not a crack at PAFC or PAMS or whatever (believe it or not)......but it gets my dander up when the media promote a rivalry which is actually borrowed from a completely different set of entities. Chinny Ginevar waxes lyrical about when he and Thomas used to go head to head.....but that was with a different club....wasn't it....

Rather than trying to manufacture something that cannot be reignited until Norwood enter the AFL.......let's just go with the previous GF combatants on ANZAC Day.
