18 months ago I predicted that this kid would be the one to dethrone Nadal, I know that might seem a ridiculous call right now, but JMDP, or 'Del Pony', has arrived. He won his first title in Stuttgart, then won Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and will tomorrow win Washington, beating Troicki.

He has won 18 ATP matches straight and is 19 years old.

Watch this guy closely, he has the best groundstrokes of any tall player thus far. :thumbsu:

He will tear shit up in the USO.

I don’t know, at this stage I’m still far from convinced with Del Potro. Obviously has massive power, the ability to win clean winners from either wing, but as TP said, consistency is the key and he can be prone to making a large number of errors and he can miss them by a mile. As far as young players are concerned, Gulbis is where it’s at. Gun.

Heck yes that Latvian can play

He was a top junior so you'd expect him to be top 10 soon. Taken a while for him to put it together but you expect that since he is still so young. Gulbis is very impressive. Big big forehand. I saw Cilic beat Gonzalez at the Aussie Open this year- he's a big big guy, built like a stick but moves very well. He's got very solid groundies and he has a biggish serve without being MASSIVE. Only young- 19/20 I think? He's got a big future.

Oh and another one to look out for is Kei Nishikori. Still only 18 I think, young Japanese kid who trains at the Bollitieri academy. Into the 4th round at the US Open beating Ferrer as well. He's playing Del Potro in the 4th, thats going to be an interesting battle.

Don't think he'll beat Murray, but well done on 23 consecutive ATP wins young man!

Muzza and Del Pony don't like each other very much haha

Well Simon was 16th seed, has beaten Federer and is in very good form.

Murray eats ball bashers for breakfast.

I agree with that, Murray does have a great record against the power-hitters. But having said that, when you have won 23 consecutive matches......... lets just say JMDP is going to be very tough to beat with the level of confidence he is playing with at the moment. This is a guy who slaughtered Andy Roddick in Andy's back yard 3 weeks ago, no easy task at all. JMDP will go close to favourite to win the tournament if he can beat Murray, Andy has been in sensational form as well.

Andy Roddick won the US open in 2003, but he was lucky to do that and he will never win another one.

I'm liking Murray's chances, he's playing the most impressive tennis of the players left in the draw. If he can overcome his nemesis, Rafa, I cant see any reason why he wont beat Novak or Roger because he has already smashed both of them in 2008.

Well done Juan Martin on a fantastic run! He gave everything he had versus Murray, and had no gas left in the tank.

He burst into tears at his Press Conference and had to be led out, poor kid has earned himself about a week worth of sleep! :thumbsu:

What I like about JMDP is that he is a shot-maker. He doesn't rely on his opponent making an error (eg: Andy Roddick) to win the point, he takes control of his own destiny. Awesome player and obviously he is going to have a brilliant future.

He has just trashed Niemenen then Ferrer and is into Tokyo Semi Finals, where he will trash Gasquet. Has moved up into #9 in the Race. I hope he qualifies for TMC for shits and giggles.

Possibly the most confident young player I've seen, given his 'unsafe' game style.

He'll probably make TMC the way he is going (and the competition he has got), won his SF in Tokyo today.

I haven't seen a lot of him since he has been on this run but when i saw play ages ago, had a big game that just need to all click together, he's a bit of a tall, gangly kid, seems to be all working now.
