Most here would know how highly i rate Mick, both as a bloke and as a horse trainer, and after yet another winner tonight, i decided to have a look back at his recent record.

Of his past 50 runners, he has had:

14 - 1sts
9 - 2nds
5 - 3rds
5 - 4ths

So that's a 28% winning strikerate, with an extraordinary 66% of runners earning a cheque.

Many of his horses are unfashionably bred or rejects, with only 4-5 genuinely well bred, relatively expensive types, which only makes his record that much more impressive.

He'll never have the resources or the media hype of the 'name' trainers, but make no mistake, he is as good a trainer as anyone in the state.

Very Interesting. You should name some horses of his and when they are running. Wouldn't mind keeping an eye on it!

He does do it in the Blackbookers thread.

Although he kept us in the dark with Fair Trade which we are all very very very sad about.

Has he sacked Michelle Payne? What's the go there?

Yes and no.
She wasn't riding for a couple of weeks and unfortunately for her that coincided with Mick's good run, which means that now he's got jockeys (and their managers) like Brad Rawiller, Craig Williams and Nick Hall sniffing around which makes it hard for Michelle to get a look in.

Mick's a loyal bloke so i'm sure she'll get back on a few soon but right now there aren't a lot of rides to go around (even moreso with him giving more and more rides to Ibby).

:D

My apologies but as i said at the time, i wasn't betting so it didn't cross my mind to come here and let you all know about it.

There are two things people should know about Mick Kent.

1) He rarely wastes a run. Generally, if he presents a horse on raceday it's done enough work to earn a cheque.
2) He's excellent at placing his horses and would rather win a maiden at Seymour than run a solid 6th or 7th in town, so, if he brings a horse to town, either for it's first start or a sudden jump from the provincials, get on.

He's been having a very good run with horses like Sadalbari (who has won four straight), the freakish Fair Trade, quality city types like Bubble Below, Sparks Fly, Mine Game and Banana Man, highly consistent horses like Red Buttons, Congo Red and Clandon, along with last nights highly impressive winner Cameo Minx.

As for upcoming runners, Banana Man is carrying the grandstand tomorrow in the Colac Cup (but has lengths on them), Mine Game and Blue Oscar will be running on Wednesday and i think both should win, whilst a little more longterm he's got Varevees (the imported mare who ran midfield in the Melbourne Cup) aimed at both the Australian Cup and Melbourne Cup, before joining fellow imported mare Trick Of Light at stud.

Also, just keep an eye out in the next few months for both Darcarwasha and Luke Duke.
Darcarwasha showed a stack but has had some injury problems. It's early days, but if he can get him right he's got a potential group horse on his hands, whilst Luke Duke is a young New Zealand stayer who i expect to really go through his classes throughout winter.

If true, Mick's been keeping that under his hat.

I'm disappointed but Mick owns a third of the horse and the owners are longtime friends so i strongly doubt that the sale was forced upon him.

The horse is pretty special, although he's a gelding and not proven against the best so i guess two million quid is a fair get for Mick and the Vella's.

Bruce Clarke said it was so on TVN this morning.

3 runners today, 3 winners.

That's now 17 winners in his past 53 runners, at a strikerate of about 32%.

Absolute gun.
