I am flabbergasted.

Five goals. 26 touches 9 marks.

He is now one of our most accurate kicks, who would have thought?

I had the same sentiments. What happened? Did something just click with him. Much improved player this year.

Mooney the new Byrnes, Byrnes the new Ling.... he doesn't miss

Absolutely wrapped for the lad he's been one of our best this year and had an absolute ripper today.

Great too see Byrnes playing consistently good footy after copping a pasting from nearly everyone far and wide for years. Rapped for the bloke!:thumbsu::)

And Chapman kicked 1.3

Terrible.

We kicked 13.16 for the game and that is ****ing bad.

It really defies belief. Here's hoping he can continue to perform at this standard and not just a flukey purple patch. Among the Top 3 quite easily in today's match. lol  :D

He was unbelievably good today, and has been in our best 5-6 for most of the season.

Surely now even the biggest anti-Shan Shan campaigner would have to admit that he's well and truly earned his place in our best 22.

That 1.3 includes 3 shots that didn't make the distance or were rushed.

Shannon brilliant game, very impressed with him this year.

II though Varcoe was BOG with Byrnes a close second. I'm still in shock that he kicked 5.1 instead of 1.5. Credit where credit is due, he has improved out of sight.

Wow! This win might well be a bitter-sweet feeling for the many Byrnes haters out there. A very decent fringe player in the past, and now the real deal it seems. Had he not played today Geelong would most likely not have taken the points.

And Varcoe is going to be a seriously good mid-fielder for us in the future.

Full credit to Shannon - he's reaping rewards for his pre-season hard work.

The 25-year-old has notched 62 games since his debut in 2004 but said the pain of being left out of the team in last year's finals series had made him hungrier.

"It was one of the hardest things to sit out and watch the boys play finals," he said.

"I knew I had to do something to get my name back up there so I came back a bit earlier (from holidays) and had a big pre-season."

Massive game from him, and gives himself confidence that he can change the flow of games and win them for his team. Go Byrnes.

Sorry for the intrusion to your board, but did I hear the commentators correctly in saying he had a 33% goal kicking rating last year and kicked 49 behinds?

If he can turn that around to 66% he could even get 50 goals in a season!

I'm sure that is he's career goaling kicking stats. He only played about 6-7 games last year and even Buddy couldn't kick 49 behinds in less than 10 games.

yeah 33% goal kicking last year but 49 behinds for his career (pretty sure that's right)

I've been a Byrnes knocker ( not publicly ) for quite a while but i've been impressed with his contribution this year..i'll give credit where it's due :thumbsu:

Nothing bitter about it, just sweet. I embrace good games from all players. Why would any genuine Geelong fan be disappointed or annoyed by that?

Like many who have been critical of Byrne's inclusion in the team if he's not performing consisently at a level required of an AFL level then he can politely farrrk off, my view on that is never gonna change. My only concern is for Geelong and how his output affects our results. And that goes for any present or future player, there's nothing personal about it. Provided he keeps this up, his more than welcome to remain on the team. :thumbsu:
