I can't comment specifically on what was said on this board but on various other sites the anti-Knights brigade were using the fact that we overlooked Cousins for Skipworth as another vehicle for their twisted agenda. Hmm...Knights' decision looks smarter by the day. :thumbsu:

Let's be honest, Skipworth will never be the player that Cousins WAS, but at least he had been involved in football in some way, shape or form over the last 18 months. He showed during the NAB Cup that he will be a handy contributor and with the injuries to Welsh and McVeigh the move to pick him up now seems almost like a stroke of genius. I wonder if the people who are against Knights appointment as coach will be able to see it that way?

I'll be man enough to put my hand up and say I had no objections to Cousins (I don't think I ever said I specifically wanted him over everybody else). I'm also man enough to say I'm glad we didn't take him now.

Three points though..

1) Whoever made the comment about bringing him back on in the last quarter of a dead rubber was absolutely spot on. Insane decision. By the same token I can't believe Fev even went back on the ground in the last quarter.

2) I still maintain that Cousins does not have a history of dodgy hamstrings. His hamstring trouble is related to his age and his time out of football not because of some ingrained "dodgy factor". How many hamstring injuries did he have at west coast?

3) mantis if you're referring to me as one of those that "abused" you for your opinions, I'm sorry you saw it that way and it was never meant as abuse. Your opinion simply seemed to me to be more related to the "junkie" aspect and the "dodgy hammy" reason was used as supplementary justification which I found quite annoying. :)

I would have liked to have someone of Cousins ability in the midfield.

We should remember that Terry Wallace could see the Hammy was tightening as one would expect for a guy playing his first proper match in over a year yet Wallace kept him on the ground.

The game was well and truly over by three quarter time yet Wallace showed arrogance's and stupidity in leaving Cousins out on the park.

Skipworth adds much needed experience to the side and does not come with Cousins behavior issues that go against the traditions of our great club.

One thing about the Hammy and I may be incorrect but I suspect Cousins drug use would have contributed to weakening the hammy and increasing the risk of Injury

Given how good Pears and Hooker have been, part of me is going...

Rich?

Hooker has been reasonable at best. Pears and Hurley is the way to go. Hooker competes but he has his limits.

The Cousins and Skipworth debate can rage on forever. Best to accept the clubs decision. If he is still performing when we are challenging then we will know we were wrong.

There's a lot more to the Skippy decision than meets the eye. He is a mentor to a lot of our WA boys and put it on the club to sign him or he would leave. He's probably done what has been expected of him. Exceptional VFL/SANFL player, just an AFL player.

Cousins is an absolute champ, but 15 other clubs passed on him. The circus that surrounded him early on definitely hurt the Tigers in the early part of the year.

They should not be mentioned in the same sentence.
U were better off sticking with Pevrill.
Skipworth at best is a senior VFL player.
Stop kidding yourselves, Knights has spun a line about Skipworth mentoring the young kids thats crap, that should not warrant him a game in front of younger players. He can still do help the kids in the two's.
The selection of him had the senior players off side from the begining.

WE havent had many positives during the year but Ben cousins selection has only been positive for our young midfield.
Knights needs to drop skipworth and play Myers Jetta and Houli in front of him.

Last week there was a bit of play in the third term i think when Cousin's gathered the ball and handballed it kept running received a handball and then let rip with a 20 meter handpass to a tiger's player running along the wing, at that moment i thought he so should be in an Essendon jumper.

cousins and prismall in the mid-field would have made Watson the number three mid-fielder that would have made our mid-field extremely diffcult to cover for you could have thrown Stanton and Walsh into the mix.

to be honest,in my mind, the cousins/skipworth debate is from the past, and i dont wanna live in the past, i wanna live in the NOW and the FUTURE!!
so Id rather focus on skipworth's progression of a player rather than the PAST,cos the PAST is FAST and quickly runs you by.

Does it really matter?

Cousins will be finished in a year or two - who knows how he is affecting the club. We know what we get with Skipworth - he is a backup who could be around we we actually have a reasiltic shot at the flag.

Someone like John Robran - a very solid backup no more.
