I was wondering what Melbourne supporters want to take at pick #2. Originally it was John Butcher but people are saying he may slip due to a poor carnival and injury while Jack Trengove is already playing with men and ripping it up. But recently, I'm pretty sure Butcher kicked 9 goals in two games so me may still be on the Demons' radar for pick 2.

The question is, what would you rather have? A gun Key Forward who can take a strong mark and kick a good goal or the next best Midfielder in Jack Trengove who is a brilliant kick and similar to Simon Black.

Trengrove is the man. If not, I would like to see us take Morabito over Butcher. Our forward line has come on strong, and I'd prefer to us take another forward later in the draft than with pick 2.

I'm leaning back towards Butcher has kicked 30 goals 15 behinds in 9 games in the TAC Cup so far, won't have to worrie about the go home factor with him and with Scully at 1 we could still get another good mid at 18. Also would like Jetta to slip through to 34 think his will be the best of the Jetta clam. So Scully & Butch for me, plus we still have Blease and Strauss yet to play, Strauss has a great build for mid field but not sure about his engine yet... But the future looks great GO DEES!

I disagree. Our FF is weaken with the departure of Robbo and Neitz. In addition, with Miller and Newton's shocking form over the past few seasons, plus Jurrah (Not a KPP), I can't see our FF is strong.

Trengrove is a good option, but I think Butcher is more important especially we have Scully at Pick 1.

I also disagree that Morabito is better than Butcher. Morabito kicking skills is awful.

I agree

When Butcher score bags of goals, atleast there is something for the fans to yell and scream to celebrate.

This feeling of Butcher scoring goals is much higher than Trengrove running around the midfield and collects 30 + disposals.

Goals is the main elements to WIN games.

Disposals is NOT the main element to win games and there is no point Trengrove getting 30+ disposals and Melbourne still can't win games.

Butcher kicking bags atleast gives more hope.

I started the year in the Butcher camp, but changed to Trengove in the lead up to the carnival. but suddenly find myself wanting Butcher again.

What you have to keep in mind is that Trengove is easily one of the best midfielders in the TAC Cup, potentially better than Scully too. I think he would hugely benefit Melbourne with his kicking skills and he'd probably be the last missing piece of their midfield. What should also be noted is that it's almost certain there will be a good key forward around Melbourne's second round pick. You could probably get someone along the lines of Carlisle, Panos, Griffiths or dare I say, Fitzpatrick.

At the moment it seems like Trengove at 2 is the way we are going, which is the right thing to do IMO. He'd have a similar impact to Rich and Otten this season and perhaps an even greater impact, however as well as being a gun midfielder his strong overhead marking would help him pinch hit up forward in games and I think in our midfield rotation would allow him to spend to a decent amount of time up forward.

I can't wait for draft day.

Stay away from Morabito, kicking skills aren't up to it.

I think we'd be taking a risk if we took Butcher ahead of Trengove, but it might be a risk that we need to take. We need another tall forward.

You can take one of those with your second round. You do realize there will be a fair few still available around that time.

I think with not knowing how good Jack Watts will be, it has made this decision a little hard.

If they knew he (watts) was going to be and out and out superstar they would probably choose Trengrove as one exceptional key forward would be enough to build a forward line around.

If Watts isn't going to be what we had hoped (not saying thats the case) then maybe they will look closer at Butcher to sure up the forward line stocks.

On the other hand if they feel Watts was a mistake (not saying thats the case either) they may go the safe option and simply pick the best footballer (Trengove).

At the end of the day none of us know who we will pick, and probably won't until draft night.

Butcher has to be pick 2, if we take Scully with one. We are light on for KPP up forward, and hopefully he can develop into a genuine target up front for us.

I think it's between Trengrove & Butcher & those two alone. No matter who we take, Scully, Trengrove & Butcher will be the first three picks of this draft. The rest all have faults that would warrant them being behind these three (Morabito isn't a great kick for example).

So far I'm leaning more towards Trengrove, but I can see why Butcher will be a top three pick. My only complaint is Trengrove seems ready to play at AFL level, while Butcher looks like he might take a couple of seasons to adjust (& not just because he's a key position player).

Either one of those two & I'll be happy.

I can agree with what you're saying, but you could say the same thing for guys like Grimes. We don't know how badly that back injury might hinder him. We don't know if Moloney or Sylvia are going to get struck down with osteitis pubis again. I agree with your point though, sometimes it's just a matter of taking a leap of faith.

Looking at the 5 sides who are contending for finals this year... Geelong, St. Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Adelaide... The Bulldogs and Collingwood have smaller forward lines, the Cats have had Mooney and the Tommahawk, neither has been dominant... Only the Saints have two true gun KPP, with the Crows the next best forward line...

All 5 sides have great midfields though...

Watts, Jurrah are quick. Green and Bate are good lead and mark players and others who can rotate through mid/fwd.

Does look alright but who is going to feed the ball to them? Scully is a decent kick but that's not his strength, Trengove on the other hand is a brilliant kick who would feed the forward line extremely well.

A forward is only as good as the delivery he receives.

Martin's athleticism and speed would allow him to be a very good target up forward, his set shooting isn't too bad either and that would still leave Bate and Jurrah as 3rd and 4th talls so we do have options up forward.

I've got another potential forward line than the other one I mentioned before.

I think people do tend to exaggerate how "lacking" we are up forward, good delivery can make even the worst forwards look good while poor delivery can make even the best forwards look bad.

Trengove for me. We have Bate and Green that we can slot into the forward line and we might even be able to snare Panos at 18. I must say this looks pretty awesome:
