Anyone heard the new one from these guys? I've heard a few tracks and it's good to see they are still experimenting. It feels there's a bit of a Krautrock influence much like recent Radiohead, can't wait to hear the rest.

Any thoughts?

I love these guys. Some of the most interesting pop/rock music that can be found.

Went to a Zaireeka party a couple of years ago, and it was a great experience. I think it really provokes popular music when a band challenges the fundamentals of recorded music.

looking forward to this one.

Also dying for massive attack's latest....looks like being feb 2010 now though :(

I have Embryonic... its very different from their last few albums.

There's only 3 or 4 songs that are suitable for the radio.. very heavily produced, lots of strange layered sounds.. takes quite a few listens to really get into, but it's well worth the time.

It's the kind of album magazines like Q and Rolling Stone will hate, but Pitchfork will be all over it

**** what a good idea, that would have been amazing. I've got Zaireeka in my collection, but I've never gotten off my arse and listened to it the proper way.

I bought Embryonic last weekend and after the first listen wasn't sure but, as posted above, after a listen after work each day this week have fallen in love with the album.

Flaming Lips (and O'Doyle) Rules.

im not a big lips fan. although i think yoshimi is one of the best albums this decade. soft bull to is a masterwork

the one thing that kinda buggs me though is their drummer. the sound he goes for. that distorted snare drum that sounds like its recorded in a deserted hall. it gets to much. certainly not the most versatile player out there. dont get me wrong..it actually works pretty well on tracks. But it gives me a headache after a while

Had one listen so far and really liked it. Then again I loved the last one first up, but it turned out to be fairly unmemorable in the end.

had a few listens now and what an album. I'm not a huge MGMT fan but Worm Mountain is fantastic track

any see their performance of Convenced of the Hexed on Colbert a few weeks ago?

Without a doubt, one of the albums of the year.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of MGMT either, but words can't describe how awesome Worm Mountain is.

Sounds like it was recorded in a public toilet though.
Finally giving the album a proper listen and I agree with this statement. The balance between instruments is sometimes way off, and the drums are often way too loud. It's probably all intentional but I really liked the unique and constant style of The Soft Bulletin and this is nowhere near it.

Still a very good album but not their best effort.

finally!!!
someone who agrees that the sound is shite on this album

IMO... Ween experiment/take the genre p!ss

I'm happy to think The Flaming Lips play a similar game but with a different bat [sound scapes]
2:33 into the 2nd song and the mobile phone interference might give you an idea of where I'm coming from.

but it's meant to sound shite. it's like Tom Waits voice it's absolutely shot to pieces but sounds so much better because of it

Waits voice is recorded beautifully not overcompressed and sounding like sung in the neighbours garage.
