Why is it that every time an AFL player kicks a soccer goal they go balistic, and say that the player should be playing for the socceroos/in the world cup, even if its from 1m out?

You dont hear soccer commentators saying that a goalkeeper when he catches the ball in the air should be playing in AFL.

I mean most of the soccer goals kicked by AFL players arent anything special.

Anyone agree?

Does anyone else get annoyed with continuous comments made by commentators?

I'm sick of commentators talking about how unselfish Geelongs forwards are and how much they prefer to give a goal than kick one themselves... Hearing that Cam Mooney had a competition with Stevie J for most assists over and over and over again was just plain annoying

Most of the words that come out of Dwayne Russell's mouth.

"Looks like Jane, plays like Tarzan" - Everytime Jude Bolton goes near the ball
"Gives it some sky" and all his other repetitive descriptions.

Plus he always tries to make a big deal out of minor incidents. Franklin giving away a 50 for a trip on the weekend was a perfect example. Russell went on for about 2 mins on whether Franklin will be suspended, asking about rules, MRP, blah, blah, blah.

Someone needs to send mugshots of Heath and Rhyce Shaw to every commentator/umpire in the game so they know the difference as well. Send 10 copies to Tony Shaw.

Just the same way they get really excited in soccer when they score a goal.

Which ones? There are only a few...

"Gives it some air/sky/shoe..."
"That's a gem!"
"That's one of the goals of the year!"

It still surfaces every now and then. Amazing since it has been denied on numerous occasions.

Yeah I agree with that one as well "wonderful soccer goal from Fevola there, Gabriel Batistuta style" or something. Normally always Commetti.

That annoys me when they compare afl soccer goals to goals from world class soccer players. Batistuta is one of the greats, i doubt fev would come close to kickinga goal like Batistuta.

Any of the commentators who constantly call Priddis a great player. Heard it like 10 times on the weekend.

Soccer sucks. They should be so lucky to have an AFL player compared to them.

Should put it on their resume. They might go places :thumbsu:

"Goddard has reached champion status now you'd think." before every game involving St Kilda talking up Goddard.

He will be a champion but isn't at that level just yet.

Any commentary involving Adelaide makes me want to neck myself. They will look for any angle to talk up the crows, involving the old "Adelaide are fitter and will run this out" in any game with a tight scoreline.

A toe poke from 1m out with no keaper or defender isnt anything special, shold not be compared to soccer goals.

Wasn't comparing goal attribution, was comparing commentary attribution. I brought to attention there is very little to get excited in soccer and therefore the commentators have no choice but to get excited when a goal is scored, seldom they come.

The same in the AFL when goals are kicked off the ground, seldom they come there too. If you don't understand this nuance then you are either ignorant or you have some issue with soccer not highlighted in the same way AFL is in this country.

This is not just related to commentators but everyone involed in AFL football...

STOP USING THE TERM/PHRASE "BRAND OF FOOTBALL".

Seriously can someone give these guys a thesaurus??

I love AFL and Soccer.
But soccer athletes are different to football, and so is the game, therefore commentators should not compare goals.
The Hannelbury goal on the weekend is a goal to get excited about, not a 1m toe poke.
Thats what im saying.
And to then go on and say that AFL player should be playing in the world cup is a joke.
Just like saying Schwaarzer playing in AFL taking a high mark is.

Agree.
Riewoldt's goal was pretty good too.
But it's a footy goal however it's scored.

Child, they have been calling kicks off the ground "soccered/soccers" since Adam was a boy.

It was common usage before you were a twinkle in your father's eye. Thats what I'm saying.

I hate it when one teams frees are "well deserved" while the other teams frees always seem to be "lucky or soft"... Commentating bias shits me.

Most of the words that come out of Dwayne Russell's mouth.

He's got a new phrase that he's trying to make standard vernacular now too judging by the amount of times he used it on the weekend.

"Wobbles one to half-forward"

"Kicks a wobbler out of defence"

Can't wait to see who else latches on to the 'wobbler' fad ??

That has nothing to do with what i have been saying.
Its more about commentators saying that just because an afl player kicks a soccer goal, doesnt mean he is good enough to play soccer, and vice versa.
Just annoys me mate.

Anything that comes out of Kelli Underwoods mouth... she gets excited at the wrong times, repeats what the other commentator says, gets sayings wrong and even when they are in the studio talking she constantly just nods her head.

I sometimes wish I had my old man's set home theatre set up where we would mute the telly and turn on 6PR to have them commentate games
