Strawb is contracted till the end of 2013.

My mail is he told Gold Coast straight off the bat that they would be wasting their precious time by trying to woo him. He's staying with Brisbane till the end.

On that note, if you ever get a chance to have a chat to Dan Merrett, you'll be blown away by what a great person he is.

He is infinitely grateful to the Lions for plucking him out of obscurity and persisting with him through some frustrating years, and as for his teammates, he would deadset die for them.

Totally agree mate. Got the vibe he was a top bloke. Good to see there are still some down to earth guys kicking round the AFL!

While I would hate to lose either player, the effort and performance that both have put in this year cannot be questioned. If they had agreed to join GC, both have given their all in some pretty poor team performances.

Brennan was playing as well as ever prior to his injury, and after a few weeks to get back into match fitness has again played at a high level.

I would be very surprised if Rischitelli wasn't clearly leading our B&F, and has really stepped up this year. I would not be surprised if he was fairly upset with the attempted trade last year.

At a Player Sponsor's function a few years ago, when Essendon came sniffing and throwing lots of money at Rischitelli, he said directly to me:
"I am not interested in Essendon. They had their chance to draft me, and passed me over, and the Lions gave me a chance. I am not going anywhere."

It appears he is a very loyal person, however when his loyalty is not considered by the club, I imagine he would be quite upset. At trade time last year, with with he had shown on the field, I thought the mooted trade was a big win for the Lions. What he has shown this year, has me dreading the thought of losing him. If he does stay, he will definitely rise even higher in my estimations.

After seeing Rischa's game against Geelong (7 or 8 clearances, and actually looking fit running around the ground), with Black possibly only having one year left in him, it would be huge loss for the Club if he left. Brennan as well of course.

Rischa has had a good year. I get down on him at times because of his lack of speed and that we have so many mids without pace. Yeah we could replace him with kids, but it has taken Rischa a fair while to get where he is - it might take others a similar amount of time.

Yeah I'd be disappointed to lose either player, but more so if it happened to be Rischitelli.

I'd rather have a second-tier player who gets the best out of themselves, is reliable and improves their game gradually every year over a potential top-line player who is unconventional, somewhat injury-prone and essentially unreliable.

Unfortunately he was our BOG on Saturday night and the commentators believe he would be leading our B&F so that's a bugger.

Also heard Saturday afternoon from a good source that the reason why Vossy offered him for trade to Carlton is because he knew he was going at the end of the season anyway!

Is there any more things from Michael's private life you'd like to share with the world?
He heard about this thread and wasn't very pleased about his private affairs being spread all over the place. Even if a family member told you this information in private it's nobody's business on this website.

I'm sorry, but my reaction is STIFF.

It was not as if the rumour wasn't rife with in the footy world before Tim the Toolman posted what he did.

He's a footballer, this is a football issue, he is paid a lot of money and the fans are entitled to have a say. Deal with it.

Deal with it.

Not a very diplomatic way of ending your argument.

I have to admit that when I saw this thread I thought to myself "If they knew this information was going to straight to a public website, would Riska's family member been as forthcoming with their thoughts."

That said, what people choose to do with their information isn't my call.

a bit of respect peeps, Riska has been sensational this year..i think he has taken the next step...one of the few that has given his all most weeks...

losing him and Brennan would leave a massive hole in our team...oh gawd i hope this rumour isnt true or the club can turn them around...then again look at what the powers that be have done thus far...were screwed!!!

Yeah it wasn't diplomatic, but it was more in terms of if your a player and people are talking about your contract - you know, deal with it. You are paid a sh#t load of money, but there are some minor downsides. So what???

Try being Gary Ablett for a second and then you might have a more legitimate case for having a whinge.

Riska has been great this year and it would be cr#p to lose him. But if he has had this in mind for a year or two (and prior to him being put up for trade) then that would put a whole new spin on it entirely. No one knows the real truth except for him and people very close to him. I don't know whether anything in this thread has come from them / him or not. And in the end that doesn't matter to me.

If it had nothing directly to do with football, then that would be another issue. Or if the info was gotten in an underhanded manner. But neither of those things seems to be the case.

But if an internet thread is all someone has to worry about when it is dealing with a football issue (here comes another undiplomatic line)... well then 'suck it up princess'.

If this is true it is hard to argue against the case for Brisbane and GC to attain Draft concessions as they are clearly watering down the local talent pool which is already shallow in comparison to Victoria. Clearly the Lions will have been made significalntly worse off for 2011 if they were to loose even one of their main midfielders.

This deal (if true) would cripple the club for a few years!

Not sure if you're aware but bigfooty is rife with rumour and innuendo and it's not just a fansite but a place where supporters and paying member/sponsors like myself come to discuss things. I think you'll find facebook now has become a tirade of the same R & I and there's worse things bandied about there than what's on here.

Contracts between our club and players is very much out there for public comment and even newspapers will openly discuss rumours that they've got in relation to club signings, re-signings etc...

You may want to cast your eye over Geelong's way to see the scuttlebut that goes on with Gazza's movements and you'll see that this thread is by no means over the top.

Also, just to let you know, I posted this in the members only section and the moderators saw it fit to move it to here in the public domain so I did try for a bit of in-club discretion initially.

Tim, Roster Watch is not a members only section.

Sorry is this has been covered before.

This article highlights the GC draft concessions and compensation picks. It does not mention GC getting priority picks in the pre season draft which would mean is either player was to roll the dice on that, it is a risk. The article also states that 'any club that lost a player to the expansion side would be eligible for a compensation pick. I take this to mean that any player who the GC recruit who was on another club's list in the previous year lead to a compensation pick, regardless of the method in which the player moved. I think the AFL intended it this way to ensure clubs were fairly compensated no matter the circumstances.

GC is also only able to take 16 players that were contracted at other clubs in the previous year. This would that if the do take risca and Brennan (highly doubtful of this) they would only be able to take a max od 14 from the reamining 15 clubs. Considering how we are traveling at the moment, players from other clubs would look more attractive to me if I was GC list management.

This is the bit that leaves a bit up to interpretation:

Gold Coast to have capacity to pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL Draft, or were previously listed with an AFL club.

Gold Coast to have capacity to sign up to 16 uncontracted players

So they can sign 10 players before the draft. They can then sign either another 6 or 16 depending on what the above clauses mean. It is commonly understood they get to sign these extra players before the PSD effectively meaning they get first crack at the PSD.

Basically whoever was in charge of communications at the AFL did a terrible job. No surprise there though.

These players (as I understand it but I could be wrong) are players who have either nominated for the draft in the past but were not selected or those who have been in an AFL list but are no longer signed to a club (eg Thorp). They are more Rookie draft selections than PSD selections.

I also don't think they have ANY priority PSD selections (It hasn't been mentioned). That may simply mean they have the standard selections every other clubs has (eg equavelent to the number of ND picks not used) at which point their position in the rankings isn't specified (but will probably be the 1st team in a rd). This would be the only was I can see them netting both players, say Brennan as an uncontracted player and Riska as a standard player who walks into the PSD much like JMAC did last year.

If this happens then I would say you would get compensation for Brennan (a signed uncontracted player) but Riska would be treated as any other player who enters the PSD and goes to another club, and no compensation would be given.
