Agree about Austin.

Was soft sentiment as part of Gibbs deal. Like Gary's brother.

Would rather Austin gone now and let Gibbs grow up with no distrations/excuses.

Gibbs still looks/plays like a talented boy. Not taking enough responsiblity for a numbr 1 pick. Hope 2012 is the year he shows his number 1 pick was the right spot for him.

Seems harsh but we are talking a number 1 pick here. If we got him with pick 10-15, then he is spot on for that type of player on form shown to date.

Both have shown in the they can play in the past the question is can there body's hold up. In a weak draft would be worth keeping the two on the rookie list for a year

Is interesting, Henderson has done 3 times as much as austin ever did and is miles ahead. jamison is a gun. there are loads of blokes putting their hand up ss tall forwards and with watson, mccarthy and bower fit the tall defender spots are qued aswell. To be honest i dont see what they see in Austin. as a defender seemed to lose his man and didnt seem to provide a heap of run or defensive marks. didnt seem to be able to play deep in defence too well and got done on leads. injury prone players dont make a settled 22 either. Potential is all he has shown which is a start but its been a long time. if there is nothing else about then i suppose a rookie spot wont hurt at all.

Not that it means too much football wise, but Sellar was struggling for a while with depression and maybe that could have had an impact with his footy. Anyway, from what I've read it seems he's well now and at his size it wouldn't be too bad an idea to let him train with us alongside some of his old mates to see how he goes about training...could surprise a few!

I know for a fact that he and John Meesen were Neil Craig's whipping boys while at Adelaide. Perhapas playing with his old mates might make football a bit more enjoyable for him and teach him to approach the game with a new attitude, who knows?

The trouble with Sellar is that he isn't tall enough to be a ruckman - and isn't agile enough to play as a KPP.

Talented junior and all - so heres hoping.

That may be the problem with Casboult, too.

Yes to Austin on the rookie list.

No to Sellar.

Aussie's injury prone (broken arm and broken jaw this year), but he had a good finish to season playing forward with the Bullants. Still just 22. Stiff to get dropped after his game this year. With Jamison injured, they shuffled back Aussie and forward without letting him settle in one spot. Unfortunately agree with Splendini who thinks Austin would be more value as a rookie than O'Keeffe. :p

Not averse to looking at Sellar, depending on how cards fall during the draft. With Setanta making way he could be handy depth. Not sure if there are any Pedersen types to be found in the state leagues but someone with some size who is relatively ready to go makes sense.

Think Austin could be AFL standard, but a change of scenery may be warranted. Hope someone else gives him a shot - Adelaide may be an option with a few departing talls.

yeah, but they're young and not AFL ready.

Not every spot on the list has to be for a kid with the potential to be the next Adam Goodes (or Caleb mourish ;))

Bloody good value at pick 43 and, dare I say it, looked a better choice than Kris Massie, even as a junior. As for the other one... Caleb who? ;)

Anyway, I hate it when people say we have "enough" of something, as if you
can use the word objectively in regards to the unproven.

A couple of years back I would have been all over Sellars, as I remember what he was like as a junior. Now, I am not so enthusiastic. He is neither fish nor fowl, and hasn't the tank to make the impression he needs to.
I guess giving him an invite isn't that bad, as it does promise him nothing but a reasonable chance.

Austin I have mixed feelings about, but I can honestly say his form as a forward in the VFL finals was some of his best football. If he can keep up that sort of stuff, and make that sort of impact in the seniors, then he has a chance.
I think he's had his chance in defence and been found wanting. He doesn't have the bodywork for defence. Maybe he needs it a little less at the other end?

Happy with whatever our recruiting team decide regarding whether to give Sellar a lifeline rookie spot or not. They'd know the situation better than any of us, especially with our large SA representation. Struggling to see where he'd fit in. The Crows completely stuffed his development, and re-educating players can be a massive task. Will be interesting.

:)
