Haven't been paying attention to everyone else's side thus far, but would love to see if anyone thinks they've got a stronger defence than this?

This is my defence with Easton Wood on the bench. I reckon it would be at least the equal of yours.

B: Waters Scarlett McGrath
HB: Shaw Bock Newman

Interesting. I wouldn't have any of the teams you quoted in my top teams.

Mojo has firmed heaps due to not being sucked in to picking unproven kids in the latter stages like most people.
Agree. I think dreambomber's doing pretty well atm.

Both defences are very small, this is mine:

Hardingham-Merrett-Richards
Hurn-MacKenzie-O'Brien

I think mine is better than both, better balance of talls/mediums/smalls.

Says the bloke who picked up Heppell with pick 140.

Whilst Doug's defence has a lot of quality, I agree it is definitely small. But I can't quite fathom how you consider a defence that has Reid, Gibson, Gwilt and Maxwell, to be too small.

From 2011 form:
Reid > MacKenzie
Gibson > Merrett
Maxwell < O'Brien
Suckling > Hurn
Gwilt < Richards
Harbrow > Hardingham

Frankly my defence is comfortably in front IMO.

I beg to differ. 2011 from:

Reid>MacKenzie
Gibson=Merrett
Maxwell<O'Brien
Suckling<Hurn
Gwilt<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Richards
Harbrow<Hardingham

Merrett was rarely beaten in defence pre-injury, without him Brisbane would've lost by a lot more, Hurn should've been AA, and Hardingham was on fire in the first half, most people agreed that Harbrow had a lacklustre season for GC. My defence is miles ahead IMO. And as for too small, Gibson, Gwilt and Maxwell are all mediums, I can see only Reid as a proper KPD

Reid>MacKenzie>Morris
Gibson=Merrett=Silvagni
Maxwell<O'Brien<Fisher
Suckling<Hurn<Adcock
Gwilt<Richards>Gilbert
Harbrow<Hardingham<Toovey

Plus I have Firrito and A.Selwood on the bench.

Very happy with my defense.

Josh Gibson was in the All Australian squad due to playing the entire year as a KPD, not as a medium tall, had a fantastic year.
Hurn was not even the squad, yet he should have been in the team? Whilst he finished strongly, Hurn had a very average first half of the year, well below his standards. I'm not going to hang my hat on the AA selectors opinion, but (apart from Betts in the squad over Walker) I thought they were very close to the mark this year. Suckling had a massive year as a distributor out of the back half for the hawks.
I certainly rate Hardingham, but lets not get carried away.
Richards offered more defensively than Gwilt, which is why I gave you the nod, but Gwilt provided a hell of a lot more rebound. The difference is not as stark as you make out. Gwilt will be playing 3rd/4th tall which is more than capable defensively for, and as such am very happy with the rebound he provides on top.

This is very accurate IMO, the only difference I'd make is that Silvagni, while being good, wasn't as good as Gibson or Merrett. I also have Drummond on the bench

So this is my final squad, really pleased with how it turned out. What does everyone think I should be after during trade time?

Richards/Merrett/Drummond
Hurn/MacKenzie/O'Brien
Deledio/Watson/Rich
Steven/Clark/Duncan
Gunston/Dawes/Whitecross
Sandilands/Melksham/S Selwood
Masten/Hardingham/Brad Ebert
Bruest

That side is an extremely balanced side between smalls, mediums and talls.

Merrett, Richards and MacKenzie have been excellent in defence all year, MacKenzie being one of the big improvers in the WCE side, part of the reason they did so well this year, Merrett was rarely beaten and IMO was a certain starter in my mid-year AA side, before getting struck down by injury. Richards was consistently one of if not the best Sydney defenders this year, and for a side like Sydney, that's no easy feat. Drummond had an average year by his high standards, but provides run out of defence and has that huge left boot of his. Hurn, O'Brien were very good all year, and both were keys to West Coast and Collingwood's run to the top. Hardingham was very good at the start of the year, before falling away to have a 7/10 year overall. My defence I would rate at about a 9/10.

My midfield is weaker than my defence, even though Watson and Selwood had great years on form, along with Sandilands' form as well. Deledio had a very good year running on the wing, he was a crucial part of why Richmond won most of their games. Melksham had a good year as a midfielder, but not great. He provides a little class, and has that smooth mover look around him. Rich had a substandard year for him, but I still like him running off the wing for us, with his booming left boot. I rate my midfield at about a 7.5/10

My forward line is easily the weakest part of my team. I think they all had a 6-8/10 year IMO, Dawes having 8, Clark, Duncan and Steven 7, with Gunston and Whitecross having 6/10 years. Overall, I'm happy with it, but It's realistically only a 6.5/10 forward line, as a gun small forward is needed, which is what I'll be chasing in trade week(s).

My bench is very good IMO. As bench players, Hardingham and Masten had 9/10 seasons, both were well inside their starting 22's, both inside their starting 18's respectively, both in top 8 sides. Brad Ebert was probably the 22nd/23rd man on some occasions, but was also a very good bench player for the Eagles this year, and I had his season at a 6/10 as a bench player. Bruest was the sub of the year, averaging 12.2 touches this year, and 1.8 goals per game.

My teams average statistics this year:

Kicks: 203.2
Handballs: 143.7
Disposals: 346.9
Marks: 84.6
Hit-outs: 38

A BIG defender. Fisher, Morris and Silvagni aren't tall or strong enough to take a Dawes/Cloke/Clark etc. Otherwise a very good side

I picked two defenders in Bock and Scarlett to play on the tall full forward/centre half forward setup. I don't think height's an issue with my defence.

2 talls and 4 smalls. Who'll take who in my forward line?:

Steven/Clark/Duncan
Gunston/Dawes/Whitecross

Your right, but I don't think it's that big a deal. Heights never been that big a deal with KPB though. With Firrito and Gilbert(194cm) I feel I have more than enough options and all would be able to hold their own, providing a chop out for each other.

Maybe, but If you had that big key defender, your side would rocket up IMO.

As I said I picked two tall defenders for a twin tower forward set up, not specifically for your team, but I'll have a crack at it anyway.

Wood* Scarlett McGrath
Gunston Dawes Whitecross

Waters Bock Newman
Steven Clark Duncan
* I took Wood off the bench to play on Steven

You have Duncan twice. Whitecross would be tagging Newman
