Game 1 of the finals, 1st vs 8th.

Nobody should vote in this poll until we get an argument from both coaches on how they would beat each other. Once that has happened anyone that wants to put a vote in can.

WHY WE'D WIN

Well, I think there is the genuine size in the backbone both to negate Lawrst's forwards and create some tremendous rebound. I think we have too many options to goal, so we'd kick a winning score. Plus the mature bodies in the Bellends midfield are all strong winners in contested ball situations, so I just think we would overwhelm them at the contests. I actually think this would be a great game and I don't think we'd dominate - but I think we're strong across every line and I think some of the areas where the opposition is relying on someone too young or not up to it, we could counter with a player that would exploit that.

I know Lawrst hasnt put his argument forward yet, but dont think it would sway my decision anyway. This is how I compare the teams.

I listed the teams as if Kristof is home team, but havent factored that into my voting-

FF - Tie
HF - Kristof
C - Lawrst
HB - Kristof
FB - Tie
R - Tie
B - Tie

Pretty close, but Kristof wins by a nose!
Chose not to include Emergencies as they wouldn't count in a real game.

Dont know how others choose to rate the teams, but this way works best for me.

I would love to see this game played out for real, it would be a ripper but I think Kristof would just get over the line. Both teams are fairly even across much of the ground but I think Kristof's HF and HB line are superior which would be the difference.

I vote Lawrst.
It's extremely tight though.

Line by line:
Lawrst's FB beats Kristof's FF (pretty close, Otten beats Gunston, Petrenko will beat Stanley)
Kristof's HF beats Lawrst's HB. (pretty clear cut this one)
Lawrst's C beats Kristof's C (very close)
Lawrst's HF beats Kristof's HB (close again, don't rate Ebert at all, he gets minus votes as a footballer imo)
Don't really rate any of the 6 in the next line. Lawrst maybe, but because I somewhat rate Thomas and Schulz.
Lawrst's R beats Kristof's R (rate Mumford and Martin extremely highly)
Kristof's bench beats Lawrst's bench. Ibbotson is pretty much the only one I rate.

I used 3 formulae, Lawrst won all 3 in my original ranking.

Sheesh - let poor Lawrst get a word in!

Ringo - GREAT original post with the lineups!

My views are similar to Hendo.
Lawrst by 3 goals.

*I thought it was meant to be 5th v 8th first up not 1st v 8

Very very close IMO. These 2 teams are very well matched in most areas of the game,

I finally gave my vote to Kristof, because of his very powerful forward line as a unit. IMO that 6 would be far more capable of scoring goals than Lawrst's 6, although I do see defence as a marginal problem for Kristof.

It would be a terrific game to see played, but Kristof to win by less than a kick.

No, we posted a few times that we were doing 1v8, 2v7, 3v6 and 4v5.

Then the winner of 1v8 plays the winner of 4v5.

Lawrst - did you vote for yourself? We probably could have presumed that.

That being said, I guess there's no real problems in people voting in their own matches. And I better vote now ...

Sheesh - let poor Lawrst get a word in!

If this was a real game you would've won by default! Lawrst hasnt even shown up! :D

FF: Jack Gunston , Quentin Lynch , Danny Stanley
FB: Andy Otten, Scott Thompson (NM), Jared Petrenko
Gunston showed he was good last year, will he keep improving? Will Otten be able to get back to his pre op best? Thompson V Lynch, Thompson will be too quick with Lynch having the strength advantage. I think pets has the speed strenght and desperation to take care of Stanley.

HF: Colin Sylvia , Nick Riewoldt , Ryan O'Keefe
HB: Brent Guerra, Chris Tarrant, Brodie Smith

A lot has been said about this line already but ill add my 2c.
Sylvia can be a gun and one of melbournes best players but he just doesnt put it together week in week out. Riewoldt is a handful for any defender but Tarrent will take care of him, and anyways his accuracy for goal has been terrible. O'keefe is just a gun will probably be a handful for smith.

C: Liam Shiels , Matthew Boyd , Danyle Pearce
C: Dayne Beams, Luke Hodge, Andrew Carrazzo
Beams, proven performer in a permiership challanger for 2 years. Luke Hodge, one of the toughest players in the game and one of the best capitains in the AFL along with Andrew Carrazzo who is an underrated part of cartlons current success.

HB: Brad Ebert , Sam Fisher , Rhyce Shaw
HF: Luke Breust, Jack Riewoldt, Matt Wright
Luke Breust is a much smarter footballer than Ebert, Ebert has the talent, not the mental capacity to go with Breust, and as soon as he is left alone Breust will make him pay. Riewoldt will have the better of Fisher, just needs to watch that he isnt letting fisher create too much.

Matty Wright will be able to shut down shaws run as long as he sacrafises a lot of his own game, he is fit enough and has a big enough tank and the defensive skills to do it.

FB: Xavier Ellis , Alipate Carlile , Troy Chaplin
FF: Lindsay Thomas, Jay Shultz, David Hale
Thomas's pressure will get into Ellis's head, just needs to kick straight. Carlile and Shultz will be a good battle, carlile has been a bit lazy the last few years where as shultz has been a work horse in a terrible side. Hale v Chaplin will be interesting, hale can play as a No1 forward so may restrict chaplins want to be 3rd man up.

1st R: Hamish McIntosh , Jack Redden , Luke Ball
1st R: Shane Mumford, Dustin Martin, Luke Shuey
Mumford is one of the most compeditive ruckman out, 2nd heighest in hitouts i believe...? Martin is a freak and will explode this year (i hope) he already is super strong and can go forward and kick a few lazy goals through sheer strength. Luke shuey had his break out year and was so composed in the stoppages, im hoping he will continue.

Res: Garrick Ibbotson , Michael Osbourne , Daniel Gorringe
Res: Adam McPhee, Nathan Lovett Murray, Luke Thompson
Sub: Mitch Wallis
Sub : Lewis Jetta

I have more flexibility in my bench, he has more quailty.

Close game, i just think i have more players that can win the contested ball and tough out win against the odds.

Very very tight. Kristof just ahead of mine as I think the forward line just shades Lawrsts, and Kristof has a few more options in the midfield. Both teams were right up there for me, both came equal 2nd. Both very good teams.

This actually was a tough game to get in the first round - Lawrst deserved higher than eighth.

I think we give each game 24 hours, then Ringo calls the winner.

Voted for lawrst, was first in my rankings, but I didn't base it on that.
Had a look at each line and think kristof probably has the more solid scoring potential however I think the game is won and lost in the midfield. For mine while I think kristof will get more possessions I think lawrst midfield will hurt more with what they get. Also think Mumford would beat McIntosh and thus get a few more clearances going lawrst's way. Would be a great game to watch though I think and is a line ball call either way.
