As has already been posted, umpires called play on so you've got to get the ball moving. As anyone who has watched a game would know, the play on times get shorter towards the end of a game particularly if the game is close.

The only real concern is consistency. From memory Swan took possession of the ball with 20 or so seconds left on the clock and was not hurried up at all.

actually even with swan it was called play on (was also given around 7-8 secs) , but no one from the essendon side came at him so he held the ball for longer, so the umps were consistent..

Does anyone else think the ball went just out of bounds when it was kicked to Essendon's forward pocket and Jetta tapped it back? It sure as hell looked like that to me watching it on TV, and looking back it still looks like it just went out.

Good thing it didn't matter in the end.:thumbsu:

I thought the bigger issue was exactly how close the tackler was, when time on was called. Inside the protected area I would have thought.

Anyway, kid looks OK. Just gave us a scare.

The call was fine considering the point in the game it was... i would of expected the same had essendon had the ball, ugle just lacked experiecne and awareness.

RE Swan, brownlow medalists seem to get about 10-20% leeway from the umpries

Play on was called
Holding the ball was paid against Ugle
Watson took advantage
Jetta kept the ball in and Crameri is shithouse
Swan marks and runs down the clock
