Adelaide flying under the radar: The real deal or pretenders?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Awesome side, clearly better than their back2back 97/98 premiership sides, right up there with the Brisbane sides of 10 years ago and the Geelong sides of the past 5 years. I'm sure 'The Advertiser' will confirm this during the week. :thumbsu:

Not enough space in the Tiser with all the Sack Primus stories being run by Rooch.

great club, plenty of good players but losing to a hawks team by ten goals at the MCG tells me they cant win the flag barring a huge slice of luck.

Like not playing in Melbourne until the grand final and facing the eagles.

Cant beat hawks or blues at the MCG.

The Crows were off the boil against the Hawks. That's not to say they're a better side when all is equal, but they weren't close to their best.

Just as it isn't wise to judge the Hawks on their performance against the Swans, I wouldn't be writing the Crows off on the basis of having watched your side play well against them once.

Watch the game vs Hawthorn, then the one vs Geelong, playing so much better now than they were in round 3, hard to believe it's the same side.

Confidence is a very strange thing, is it not? If you don't have any on a given day, you can easily look terrible.

Without any doubt it can do absolute wonders if you do manage to get some from wherever it comes.

Dont you just love how the Adelaide supporter on BF are so quick to shoot everyone down that doesnt agree with their opinion. Must be believing the hype of the Adelaide media, who by now have them as flag certainties and we all may as well not show up.

Pretenders.....Cant win against decent opposition in Melbourne.
The true test will be the next few weeks. But even this may be a false dawn.
They will not beat Carlton in Melbourne next week.
Collingwood at AAMI and Crows are a real chance.
Freemantle.....well, you just never know what Freemantle is going to show up, but I think Adelaide's recent record their against the Dockers is okay.

I think Adelaide will make the top 4 - I cant see them losing more than 6 games, but when they come up against the better sides in a final, at home or interstate.....they will be found out.

And just for the record, I do not consider my side to be a serious contender at the moment. Hawks have to lift their game to be a serious threat.

Regrettably, I would have Carlton as flag favourites, ahead of WC.
But as they say, you dont win premierships in July.......let alone May or June

Why are there always so many Adelaide-based Hawthorn supporters with a chip on their shoulders about the Crows? :o I don't get it.

Great win today by the Crows and they played extremely well - Geelong were disinterested from the opening bounce, though.

We look like finals certainties at the moment. Legitimate premiership contenders? I'm not convinced yet.

yep, all the adelaide posters in this thread stating we're dead certs for the premiership, we're going undefeated for the rest of the season and not going to lose a game for the next 60 years.

christ. if you had've said at the beginning of the season we'd be 6-1 after 7 games having beat geelong and sydney 99.9% of supporters would've bitten your arm off. hawthorn fans whinge all the time about the supposed arrogance of geelong fans, but maybe it's a time for them to take a look in the mirror. hey look, i can make incorrect generalisations about a supporter base too!

I think it is your obsession with that schoolboy's picture

Fixed.

Also pretty funny how you're deriding others for shooting down people who don't agree with their opinion, whilst doing the exact same thing yourself. :o

And maybe its time for you to stick to what you know. I think you will find there is a very healthy respect between Geelong and Hawthorn supporters. You only need to have had a look on the Hawthorn board to see that in the lead up to round 2. But I guess you didnt bother to look there.

Besides, Geelong can be as arrogant as they like wrt Hawthorn. We havent beaten them for 3.5 years. The one saving grace that keeps us Hawthorn people sane is the fact that the last time we did beat them was pretty significant. So we havent really got to much to whinge about. We just havent been good enough in the last few years and we are man enough to admit that.

Undersold Adelaide earlier in this thread. Some great performances against quality opposition in the last fortnight. Still do not view them as a contender but would enjoy being a crows supporter looking forward with their list.

Loved reading all the posts early in the thread. Funny how great swathes of Vic club supporters refuse to believe an Adelaide club can be a real contender. When we win next, what will be the excuse, fluke, players missing or injured, opposition just had a bad game? The more people try to pull down the Crows, the more it proves they are flying under the radar. Hopefully, they continue to underestimate our Radar too.

Oh so subtle. I love it

I really still haven't seen many Crows fans claiming we are a legitimate chance yet either. Most are still very gun shy and want to see more than 2 wins against good teams

Big difference from the past few years to this year is our contested footy. Bottom 3 for it last year and even in our more succesful years under NC, we got smashed in finals because our contested footy sucked. Hence why we ****ed up so many finals that we were in good positions to win. This year we are number 1. Thats the difference right now. Thats the Sando Spike coming to the fore. Can we keep it up? Time will tell, Crows fans can only hope!

Providing we make the finals this year, it will be interesting to see how much the contested footy helps us when the pressure is really on

If this form continues then top 4 is a given and Adelaide must be thought of as a legit premiership threat. Gotta admire the way they've played this year and the simplicity that Sanderson has brought to their structures and positioning. He's letting the players play and they seem to be enjoying their football.

The previous 4 nab cup winners made the top 4 and made either a prelim or a gf. So they're guaranteed a top 4 spot on history.

I'm not surprised that they're doing so well. They were a good side the last couple of years but weren't playing to their strengths. It's quite the same as Sydney and West Coast the last couple of seasons, and even St Kilda & Collingwood several years back. When you have a game plan that works for the players you have, and you combine if with good football knowledge, skills and hard work, you've got a winning combination.
The best examples are Geelong, St Kilda & Collingwood of the last 5 years.

Adelaide are way up on their tackles and their clearances this year. Its not a revelation, its merely an evolution of their game plan that fits the players they have. They've always had great inside players. What's been exceptional for them this year is their outside players have improved a lot as well.

I don't know if they'll make the GF, and even if they did I doubt they would win it. But they'll win a GF or two within the next 3 years. Count on it. :thumbsu:

Crows haven't done a lot wrong... If you include NAB cup, the crows have lost a total of ONE game in 2012. Against Hawks. In Melbourne. Say what you want, but any other club would love to be in the Crows position right now. For a team that finished with 7 wins and 14th on the ladder in 2011, just makes it that much more impressive.

Personally, I think the difference between crows best and worst is massive. If Crows play like they did in the 1st half against Geelong, they'll beat any team. Unfortunately, the crows can play pretty poorly at times that can see teams like WB almost pinch wins.

Love to see the reasons why Crows aren't contenders if they beat Carlton next week. Not that I expect them too or anything quite yet.

Pfft you should go over there to a Crows V Hawks game, feral is too nice a word for their supporters...Must have something to do with their guernsey colours ;)

As for us, Im loving the way they are playing at the moment. Every week they surprise us with their intensity, true-grit and determination at every ball. Are we the real deal? absolutely, are we contenders for the premership? way too early to tell, I would say No at the moment, but hey, anything is possible....ie 1997 proves that...:D

This has ALWAYS been the case with us....I wouldnt expect anything less from them, the threat of a super strong Adelaide sides has them craping in their boot.....Must admit tho, love seeing the egg on their face week in week out when we prove them wrong...:D

Can we stop pumping our own tyres on the main board? Please? It could become very embarrassing very quickly. Absolutely nothing wrong with flying beneath the radar; no need to seek any wider 'recognition'. Just ask Collingwood, who've been on fire since the whole Mick/McGuire thing died down.
